  1. Hmmm can anyone else back this up?
  2. Hi guys. I'm going for my provisional licence tomorrow (on my 17th birthday) and I've been saving hardcore since I was 14 for a Skyline. Now the time has finally arrived, and I'm looking at a few. According to the RTA website (apart from turbos etc), "engine modifications requiring an engineer's certificate" are illegal. Well a car I have been looking at has an exhaust system. Apart from that and a short shift kit, it's fairly stock (R32 GTS). Now the exhaust system - is that considered an engine modification or what? Their Vehicle Standards 06 sheet (http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/downloads/vsi/vsi06.pdf)...makes things confusing! I'm presuming a short shift kit is legal as it says (under owner-certified modifications) that As for the exhaust? Who knows...Can ANYONE clear this up for me? As a side note, I tried ringing the RTA who referred me to their technical line. When she gave me the number, the chick on the phone says "but they are very understaffed so you might not be able to get through to them today"! So I tried ringing them, and the phone just rings out, you aren't placed in a queue or anything.
  3. Help me out here gents! I'm wondering what rims I should put on a white R32 GTS 4-door. It has the factory body kit, but the rims on it at the moment are shocking. Any suggestions? - and please, nothing above $2000 installed. Cheers.
  4. As you may have read already, I'm a young driver, looking at purchasing my first skyline soon! (Years of hardcore saving!) Anyways, I noticed Jetspeed are having a sale - VTX kits for $650... Firstly, are these kits any decent? Do they fit well? Secondly, I assume they come with double sided adhesive and that's how you 'install' them. But what about painting? How much can it cost to get the kit sprayed silver, the standard Skyline silver that is...And where should you go? Oh so many questions, so little time! Cheers fellas. P.S. nissansilvia.com sucks. What's up with that?
  5. Hey man, I'm in pretty much the same situation as you right now. I've been saving for yonks and I'm going for my P's in two weeks. I drive a corolla right now, but I'll be forking out for hopefully an R32 GTS. It will have to be auto too, because I don't have a manual car to do the test in. Anyways, I'm going for a late series R32 if I can find one, because I like the look of R32s rather than the R33s. I haven't test drived a car yet, but I'm not expecting a RB20 or RB25 to be powerful. I don't actually want it, to be honest, because I'm not a very experienced driver yet. As for taking the turbo off a GTS-t, don't bother. As someone has already said, there are compression issues. You'd be spending extra cash to get something which you could have already bought in factory condition sans turbo. Makes sense to just get the GTS then hey? Anyways, good luck with your search. Let me know if you find an auto R32 for sale - just PM me. Cheers.
  6. Thankfully I haven't actually nailed any animals yet... But the other day, I was driving along Wakehurst Parkway late at night. Really hard to see. I saw this possum in the middle of the road about 1/2 before I was about to run over it. I swerved to the left slightly and it went UNDER the car! But it woulda got nailed by the cars behind...
  7. SPOTTED: ABSOLUTE ORGASMIC CAR... R34 GT-R Vspec, blue, numberplate: *CCESS. Warringah Mall carpark 29/12. Dude, I nearly creamed my pants looking at your car, you are one lucky bastard.
  8. I reckon it's 'cos of the sugar in the detergent, or the wax. Sounds most likely. As for bugs getting nailed when driving, well that happens to many cars, and you can only expect 5xthe carnage with a 'cooler!
  9. White (I assume) would not be allowed because it could be mistaken for reverse lights... <_< Damn ADRs...
  10. I can't physically drive a manual, and I don't have a manual car to do the test in (unless I bought a manual skyline and did the test in that, but I'm not wasting $41!). Yeah I'm hooking up some lessons. I've booked my test at Warriewood, are there any good driving schools in the area anyone can recommend? My test is also booked out of peak hour and school times, in the middle of the day . JCI seem alright but what's with the theft coverage...doesn't it say coverage 'up to $5000'. Does that mean I only get a $5k payout if my car is stolen?! Help me out here! Good onya man, good to see some other L-platers here. A question (PM me if you like): How did you convince your folks to let you buy a Skyline before you have your P's? - I'm having a little bit of difficulty in that area.
  11. Hey guys, I've been browsing these forums a while but I don't post that often. Anyways, I've booked my P's driving test for 23 February next year (on my birthday). I was wondering if any of you could give me some tips for passing the test? I'm going to take lessons and do a driving course at Eastern Creek soon, but any advice would be appreciated. On another note, I'm hopefully purchasing a NA R32 before I do my test (and before you call me a rich boy, I've been saving for it since I was 14 ). I don't think it is a wise idea attempting the test in a Skyline, 'cos I reckon that the testing officer will be like: 'Skyline = Hoon! Automatic fail.' So I'm going to do the test in an automatic Corolla. In terms of insurance however, which insurance broker would you recommend to insure my car? I've got a quote from JCI/AAMI, and it was $685 for 3rd party + fire & theft. I haven't checked out other brokers yet but any recommendations would be taken onboard. Thanks guys.
  12. Anyone else out there with an R32 Skyline, either 2-door or 4-door, non-turbo, and in NSW?
  13. *bump* Vicco guys - thanks for the replies, but I'm really only interested in NSW cars. If things get dire, I will contact you.
  14. 6 months ago, I got the locks on my '95 Corolla sedan changed because they were getting old and crunchy. Yeah I know, it's a 'Rolla but hey, I'm on my L's. I share the car with my sister (skyline comin in 2 months!). The bill for the two locks was $400...older parts are so expensive aren't they? Now a week after that, when my sister was at work in The Rocks, she finished her shift at 1 a.m. only to find that they key wouldn't fit in the drivers side lock. Someone had tried to break in. Obviously they were amateurs because even I think I could break into my car! However the lock was completely broken, and as it turned out the end of a knife was snapped inside it. Cost another $200 to get a new lock. The next week, same time, same bloody day of the week, it happens again. The lock was completely mangled and again something snapped in it. Another $200 to get it repaired. Now in total this has cost us $800. We went to the police in The Rocks. They knew it was a gang of kids. We already knew that - just down the road from where she works is some youth hall or something. They are obviously practicing on older vehicles and I bet they are going to have fulfilling lives as professional scumbags when they are older. This is a warning to anyone who goes to The Rocks. Don't leave your car there for long - make sure it's alarmed - and watch out for these punks. Before you say 'don't drive into the city', let me explain. There is no other viable way of transport into the rocks and more importantly, transport out, late at night - without paying an expensive cab fare both ways. Parking somewhere else or in a pay parking car park would be risky as it means my sister would have to walk through dodgy areas to get to her car. The situation is screwed.
  15. I'm having trouble finding the basic model, let alone being specific (I deliberately kept it simple)... I'm interested in manual moreso than auto. Max $12 000. Modded or stock is fine, but has to be non-turbo.
  16. Yeah, probably is. Thanks for the reply though anyway Dayne.
  17. Hey guys, I'm looking for an R32 Skyline, either 2-door or 4-door, must be non-turbo, and in NSW. So if you are selling one, or anyone you know is, please post it here! Cheers.
  18. Hey fellas, I'm looking for a shop where I can buy a bodykit for an R32 4-door. Any help would be much appreciated! Cheers.
  19. Well in February I will be purchasing my dream car...it's either gonna be a R32 Skyline or a S13 Silvia. It will have to be N/A (P-plater laws!), and preferably manual. I have to admit, I've seen more N/A Skylines for sale in Sydney than N/A Sils. I have a budget of around $11,000 to play with (been saving since I was 14)... What would you choose? Why? And yes, I know it's a bit biased posting this on skylinesaustralia.com so I've posted it on nissansilvia.com too. B)
  20. Hey fellas, As my username suggests, I am in the market for a Skyline, looking to purchase one around February next year but I'm researching as much as possible before I fork out for one. Now I'm a surfer, and I was wondering if: 1. The back seats fold down in an R32? 2. If you can fit a surfboard - say up to 6'5" inside (by sticking it through the boot and the open back seats into the cabin)? Cheers.
