Svi And J-spec
Kozeyekan replied to Brandon's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
+1 for J-spec. No problems at all, helpful and knowledgable. -
Mein GOTT! Cameraman: Hey dude, some guy is playing with your engine, what're you gonna do? Dude in black shirt: I'm gonna stick my thum, up his butt'ole...... Now e's really pissed orf!
-
I had my GTS-4 inspected after importing. The guy was fat and lazy, just popped out, popped the hood and had a look around. There was a little (very slight) bit of rust behind the wheels (apparantly snow-spray) They generally check the engine for mods (I had tower bars, and they were OK) check that the compliance plate is on the b pillar, and that the engine number is engraved into the engine bay near the shock mounts. Unless you look dodgy, they generally are too lazy to do much else, apart from sneer and enjoy their 5 minutes of power.

Almost as good as that time Alesi ran out of fuel.
-
4th actually. Even though alonso and lewis are even on points, there are still 3 people ahead of him, hence, 4th.
-
Yeah, it'd be great, because on a level playing field, one Aussie is worth 3 Brits in any sport. Webber FTW!

I'll be voting Rudd, simply because Howard has no fking idea what he's doing. Children overboard scandal: Howard says he didn't know. So is he innefectual or just picked the wrong people to look into things for him? Iraq war: Why are there troops there, and when are we pulling out. 280 million on ads telling us how great work choices are. If this money was spent on setting up free education for the areas that have severe skill shortages (say plumbers, electricians, builders, etc.) then there'd be fewer people pissed off about it all. Tax cuts. Everybody loves them, but the only time Howard gives them is when there is an election coming up. It like getting belted by the school bully, then him saying "I'm sorry" when the parents turn up, only for him to belt you again tomorrow. On the Labour economic model, I seriously doubt it'll send us into the shitter. They'll probably go to the self same economic experts to do their models that Howard does. I think the previous auditors were from Price, Waterhouse Coopers, though I could be wrong there. From what I hear, they get the basic economic outline, evaluate it and suggest changes, which the government generally goes along with. Basically, I find Howard to be extremely deceptive and sly, and not a man I want representing the country. Rudd is far from ideal though, but he has been booted from a strip bar. Provided he does not simply take our dependence on the US and sub it for China, it should be all OK.

Appeal to be heard soon. Apparantly it all hinges on the BMW fuel temperatures, and wether they take the official track temp as standard, or they use the meteorological data from the weather service. The tolerance is +-10 degrees, and BMW were allegedly at -14 to -16 degrees. Now, I am and have been a McLaren fan for a long time, but this is no way to win a championship. It should be decided on the track. Yes, cooling the fuel would allow more fuel to get into the engine, hence more power, but Hamilton wasn't catching them up enough anyway. Alonso passed them, so it can't have been a great advantage. I hope they let the result stand. Kimi is a great driver and deserves the championship. Ferrari even managed to let Kimi in front without making it too obvious too! Hats off to Ferrari for winning the race. They had a game plan and executed it perfectly, from Massa blocking Lewis off the line, and allowing Kimi through right up to their pit strategy and tyre selection, they were the better team on the day, and have been for the last few races. I can only hope that the FIA leaves well enough alone, and that next season Webber has a car that can finish every race. He must have missed out on about 30 points this season due to "New issues". Redbull better stop making their cars out of other teams spare parts. ANyone know where I can get "WEBBER WDC 2008" merchandise?

Gas is economical, but absolute shi-te when you're on the open road/ freeway/ steep hill. MY R32 GTS-4 uses less fuel than my olds BA XR6, and my car is turbocharged. Personally, for $15k, I'd be looking at a magna, camry or similiar, but if you're on the skyline forum, you'll always hear a recommendation for an R32. with the old reliable RB20, you won't be using a LOT of fuel unless you hit the go fast pedal frequently. The GTS-4 and GTS-t are turbocharged, but if you want more economy, there are quite a few R32 GTS models, even in 4 door.

That was pretty funny for about 30 seconds.... the rest got a bit monotonous. GO WEBBER! Might even make it out to the crown tonight and watch it on the big screen, and drop a couple of bucks on Webbo to boot. (Each way of course)
-
Go webber! If it's coming down, I'd back Alonso for the win. Lewis will probably wilt under the pressure UNLESS he can eke out a pole AND get a great start. If he can come frrom behind in the wet to win, it'll go a long way to silencing the critics (such as myself) who continue to claim that he's been the third best driver in the first best car all season. I for one am happy to be proven wrong. If Lewis can fight his way up the grid in the wet on a track he's never driven on before, he'll deserve world champ status. If he wilts under the pressure and parks it or DNF's, well than he's still a very good driver, probably the best rookie season ever, but not THE best driver. One things for sure, it's going to be damn exciting! might get a crew and go to crown to watch it on the obscenely big screen.

contact royal pruple Australia directly (www.royalpurple.com.au) and if they don't have a stockist near by, they'll sell to you directly (they did so with me). I actually had my car sitting in my driveway for 10 months, and no one had started it up (despite the fact I had asked a mate to do just that!) and I got home, connected the battery, put a small amount of royal purple into the engine as a top up, on kick and it's all sweet! It has not missed a beat or leaked while running RP. Highly recommend. Plenty of people say redline is better, and that may very well be true for high end applications, but if Royal Purple can be used in hot rods and drag cars (i.e. chip foose's machines) I don't see a problem with it handling my dear old RB20. Plus Royal Purple is cheaper.

I have the opposite problem. Long term GF wants a new car, but is looking at either a supra or a prius. I know that if I suggest the supra, she's going to be all about the prius. She uses terrible language about it too. Horrible words..... Economy.... Eficiency.... Sensible..... Horrible, horrible words. Though, when I bought the skyline, she didn't have any input. She was a bit pissed though, as we were saving for a big holiday, and I didn't really need the car, but is was exactly what I wanted at the price I wanted to pay, so I put up with a bit of a short temper, bit the bullet and went shoe shopping with her. From then on it was : "You're buying MORE parts for your car?" "Yes baby." "How much did THAT cost?" "...Remind me again how much those new heels you bought were?...." ".... You hungry yet? Lets get dinner started." Maybe that's it. If I can convince her that she can fit more shopping in a supra than a prius, it's in the bag! (pun intended!)

f1 development isn't about invention but perfection. True, things like ABS, traction control, roll cages, carbon fibre bodies monocoque chassis etc were around before F1 got them, but they poured the money into developing them, showing a practical use for them that was adapted to road cars. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the modern cars systems are in many was derived from research done by F1 engineers. Add in rubber compounds, brake compounds, light weight material research... the list goes on and on. Comparing the systems on an F1 car to a passenger vehicle is like comparing a fighter jet to a single prop joy rider, but the new ones DO incorporate design elements and technologies trialed and developed in the high tech versions. I stand by my criticism that Hyundai simply has no need to access this technology, thus would get very little out of Formula 1. Even the halo effect, as you put it, would have very limited impact. If someone's into F1, you can probably safely guess they like a bit of speed in their cars, or perhaps reliability and maybe just a bit of oomph. Hyundai really does not have the line up or brand name recognition that would allow them to take advantage of this. What would you rather drive? An M3? A 430? An AMG mercedes? Or a Hyundai coupe? it's just not the same leagues. Hyundai's main attraction has always been their affordability and quality relative to that price. To chase the high end market after having a reputation for simple engineering is pretty silly, and Hyundai's people are not stupid. Nissan could conceivably make the jump, Ford are trying to get their engines in again, but the Korean car makers just don't seem to be looking for that market, though I think Mitsubishi did have some sort of developmental agreement with them over one chassis or another.
-
The way they are different is that they don't really have a platform that uses the technology that they would develop. Ferrari uses spin off technology in their designs, McLaren have the McLaren Mercedes, BMW have high tech machines throughout their range, Ditto Renault. Even relative new comer Toyota has flagship machines that use the safety and performance features developed in the cars. They can justify the outlay into the racing because they can research and develop new technologies that have practical applications, especially brakes, suspension and alternate construction materials. Also, there is brand identity. Having a winning car that totes your brand is always good for business. The old adage "Win on sunday, sell on Monday" is true for everyone, provided there is a car that caters to the demographic of people that actually watch the race. (i.e. A fast car) Unless Hyundai is going to make a flagship semi-supercar, raising their racing profile is just an exercise in idiocy. The cost of implementing new technologies is passed onto the buyer. Hyundai have never really had a crack at the elite market, and they just don't have the reputation that would justify spending BMW like dollars on a Hyundai. The only way it makes sense is if it's a very long term investment intended to raise their profile, and accordingly they add a whole new range of high performance vehicles. Much like Honda did I suppose, with the NSX when they supplied the engines for McLaren. Oh, and it takes more than just money. See Toyota.

Back up a bit. Nissan/Prost into F1= Great. Hyundai into F1= what? I mean, I know Hyundai have done a great job in the last few models of the coupe but seriously? The reviews are favourable, and so is the price, but F1 is a whole different ball game. Still, they's probably just copy Ferrari and come out in a car that looked exactly the same, but only did 80 mph. Now, I know this really is a very weak assumption, but let me relate a tidbit form the tube press a couple of days ago. They often print little lines without giving away the persons name, and this one said a current Brit sportsman who's doing well could be shaken up at the moment, because he's in danger of being "outed" by a former lover. Now, these stories are often bullsh!t. I have never heard them to be true, but I assume they're pointed the gayday at Lewis, simply because he's pretty much the only English sportsman doing anything right..... unless it's wilkinson, but the rugby guys there are a little that way inclined anyhow.

X-Force is a mixed bag. I have had some people say it's great, others say it's tinny. It's a personal thing. OK, what you will need: 1. dump/front pipe. Preferably split. You can usually buy these on here in the group buy section. Use the search function and look for dump pipe or something similar. 2. Cat converter. Group buys are on here occasionally, or try one of the traders. From memory BOS did both these and the split front/ dump. 3.cat back. If you're ordering the Apexi N1, it'll have everything else you need. You can easily do the installation yourself. Check out the DIY forums for how. Also, consider ordering through www.nengun.com. It's the cheapest I've seen, though it can take about 3-4 weeks to get to your door. I bought an HKS silent from there for about $650 delivered. A quick glance and I can see they have this there: 161AN001 Nissan ECR33 RB25DET, BCNR33 RB26DETT Pipe 85mm-95mm 1 PCS OD 115mm AU $ 384.43 AU $ 624.70 (Delivered) there's Blitz, HKS, Nismo, etc. there also. If you're wanting him to custom make one, mandrel bent is best. It's impossible to go straight. the channel built under the car is bendy, so the pipe there must be too.

Wow, this race is going to be so damn tight, but it does seem that the actual event is secondary to the soap opera of F1 affairs. "NEW to ITV this autumn: 'Not without my daddy'. Lewis is a kid who went to watch the big cars race, but after meeting a nice older guy, he was left touched in ways he never thought of before, and decided to be a racer too! Watch as he battles everyone in his enchanted car of destiny against the evil powers of Nostrillius maximus! His evil rival and arch nemesis, and his fellows in bad-ness Dark son of rajab Kimi and Massa-tor! Watch as kindly wizard Ron gets right behind Lewis and pushes him harder than he's ever been pushed before, and in a twist of events, Lewis' dad learns to use a dictionary, and finds out what is meant by "Vicarious victory" The action does not stop! Can the noble British press help our hero? Can the evil empire be torn down? Can Lewis cry on command if he loses, and cry out that he loves being the only british driver worth a damn? Will Coulthard whup his arse? Find out on ITV's new 'Not without my daddy' repeated daily at 7 p.m. on ITV, your neutral network."

So then, it could be a case of Ferrari being dqed from the whole points tally too, plus a $100 mil fine to go with it? Would make things very interesting.

I've got the VIC ADR's linked below. Section 10 deals with body chassis alterations, and in that it says that needs approval for modifications of any panel forward of the firewall, though it goes on to talk about cut and shuts being OK. Later on, section 14 talks about bonnet and hood scoops, stating that it may be fitted if it is an option offered by the manufacturer to a model or series, so I guess you could argue that nismo offered vented bonnets, and they're part of nissan (though if they are covered by the term "Manufacturer" is debateable), but importantly, goes on to add "OR:" and lists the protrusion tolerances. THEN in the QandA file, it's got frequently asked questions, and the 5th one involves non factory bonnet scoops, and the reply is that they are allowed, visibility permitting. Because the bonnet is at an angle, it is technically a "Scoop" (i.e., the back is higher than the front, hence air is "scooped" in to the engine bay) The ADRs don't seem to mention anything about the need to cover the hole, and even allows for rear facing scoops. It seems that you'd definately be able to argue in favour if the hole had a scoop on it, but might be up to interpretation if it's just meshed, unless Honda had a vented bonnet at some stage. Still, with a job that looks that good, you could probably claim it was like that from the shop. Still, I think you'd be OK, as the hole IS technically a scoop. I like the look of it though. Too bad skylines aren't as artistic with their re-enforcing. ADRs.pdf QandA.pdf

Agreed. Hamilton is now lauded as the greatest thing to come out of the UK. You can't catch the tube without the free papers detailing what he had for breakfast, and how he's England great sporting hope (Well, they're not winning anything else). Still, that's not his fault. Hamilton IS a great talent, but it's been ..... aided..... by the fact he hasn't needed to really smoke anyone. I can't remember seeing him getting in a down and dirty race with Kimi or Felipe (or Alonso really) and overtaking for the win. He's done it in the Pits, but I can't recall him doing it on the track, unless the leader was damaged (Though, I admit my memory for some of the GP's is a bit faulty, due to the fact I often have mates around to watch... a few beers... etc.) Lewis did well in the rain to stay on track, but he didn't have to worry about spray and poor visibility. When he was coming up on the people who had yet to pit, he just hung back, (Sensibly) deciding to just sit pretty and wait for them to go away. I don't think anyone here disputes that he's got fantastic talent, that'd be just stupid. What everyone is disputing is that he's got a lot to do attitude wise if he wants to be remembered in the sport as anything special. HE doesn't have the rain driving ability of Senna, Schumacher, or even Raikkonen or Webber it seems. Drive of the day went to Kimi as far as I'm concerned..... and I hate Ferrari, but to come from last to 3rd in those conditions, well, it's the sort of thing that schumacher would have done, and he was no slouch behind the wheel. Maybe Lewis could have done similiar, maybe it'll rain in china and he'll start 10th and blitz the field. We'll find out. Until then he should just STFU and concentrate on racing, rather than being a media darling. With all the coverage, it'll be "Prince Lewis" before long. I know you're a fan M3, but seriously, while I'm in London, all I ever get is Hamilton news about unimportant crap, and stories comparing him to Senna and Prost now. I think we can all agree, he's good, but he's no Senna.

Ok, Ok, before you all get angry, yes Juiced was a piece of crap. I bought juiced 2 because I had too much spare time on my hands, and wanted a new game. Yes, it's arcadey, the physics engine is based on dodgem cars and it makes NFS:Carbon look like a serious racing simulator, but I actually am enjoying this game. The major reason is the fact that after playing for about an hour or so, I've already unlocked the R32 GTS-T, the R33 GTS25-t and the R34 GTR! C'mon, any game that has these cars can't be all bad! At the very least it lest me buy them all and look at the garage list wistfully wishing I had them all lined up in my real life garage. The game itself is OK. It's basically car porn though. No storyline, no seriousness, just cars and quick racing shots.

"... there were a lot of things going through my ind. During the last few laps I was thinking about races that (Ayrton) Senna and (Alain) Prost did. I'm feeling I am getting somehwere to acheiving something similiar to them..." -Hamilton. (Quoted from todays Herald Sun, pg 64) Someone better tell this boy to hold his horses. There truly is no comparing Hamilton to Senna or Prost. He's not had to do it hard like them. I'd have to see hamilton win in the wet, when starting from position 4+ before I'd even consider him worth rinsing out Prost's sweaty racing socks. Ps: +1 for tar and feather squad. When has mob justice ever done us wrong?

Hamilton was dashing and braking like a bit of a fool, but, well, he's allowed to. I'm not his biggest fan, but if he wants to surge and stop like that, it's jis right as front runner, just as it's Webber's right to stick to his arse like glue, in case he decides to spurt off to get some momentum. Hamilton's actions may have indirectly contributed to the incident, but only in a minor (and legal) way. The only person at fault is Vettel. One thing I really don't want to see is Hamilton running to the press about the incident to avoid blame falling on him. He can't shift any blame from himself to Vettel, because Vettel was too far back, so he sticks it to Mark. If Hamilton even tries to blame Webber for that incident, I'll be one of the first with the tar and feathers. Hamilton is a talent, no denying that, but he's been acting like a spoiled brat lately. This "I deserve" attitude has got to go. If he pulls his head in a bit, and stops trying to blame everyone else for everything, he could be an awesome racer. If not, he'll just end up pissing all the other drivers off, and one of them will put him into a tree.
