Hi all, need a pair of 32 gtr wheels. have a pair already. email is best as i don't get on here much - leigh dot davidson @ hotmail.com cheers Leigh
-
wow, you're in third the whole track except a quick blast in fourth!
-
very true on the steering ability of adam in big red, takes balls to go flat out in a car that powerful. there were plenty of moments that looked hairy but always looked in control. haha the only guy not listening and turning around in that little drivers briefing is me must have gotten bored with the breifings after they made us sit through that stupid throphy presentation in the morning
-
What a weapon big red is, Off the trailer 1:33 too! Dollar for dollar would be interesting vs a gtr, but good to see the rwd flag being flown very high this weekend Top weekend with a nice rain free day to get some laps down, my first look at winton. equally impressive was the historic datsun 1600 with an original capacity L16 1600 and some carbies punting around in 1:39's. We're talking all of 70kw's at the wheels i reckon! and ryan cracking out some quick times in his 180. a very well run day by the rex club, lots of sessions that went smoothly(ish) and no 2 hour lunch break looking forward to the next day out
-
you just can't deny fashion ryan, gotta provide what the punters want
-
hoping to be ready for this one, just waiting on an entry list to make sure i'm signed up... there will be a few datto's and flannies attending this one
-
I'm pretty sure i'll come down for a look so i'll help out, not really fussed which one i'll follow the datsun group maybe?
-
ignore that, i thought you said all of vics tracks, not of all... bloody datsun drivers

Na no hatred at all, its just interesting comparing why things go at different speeds. Watching your car jack its so quick into and out of corners, its like a digital camera - point and shoot. I wish my car was that sticky! its one thing to be light, its another to be well setup to take advantage of that - i'm working on that bit. My 1600 runs in full street trim no weight reduction at all and tips the scales at 1018kg without me. A stripped out 180sx would be more but not by much i suspect. there is lots of reasons that could point to you being .5 second quicker - better driver, 20 more kws from a bigger torquier turbo, bigger newer wider lower profile tyres, bigger brakes, better chassis and suspension design... or i could just go faster than you and we could all be amazed at the miracle Ryan, PI is not just a power track it has so many long sweeping bends its stupid even suggesting it. corner speed and testicles are king at the island. I'll do some bigger turbo research for you soon too

I know what you mean, and i think its good fun to stick it up the non believers! I have similar goals but not quite as quick as yours. At the moment my car is pretty quick for a Datsun. It'd be great to be just pretty quick amoungst the more modern cars. I definately know that its a learning process and the more time in the seat can't be a bad thing along with refinements along the way. It is a bummer that from when i started to now so many of the cars that used to go along to track days aren't there anymore.

what a great little discussion! it definately isn't a sin to spend money on your car (you do sort of have to say that now) its not a business decision that is supposed to be rational, its a hobby! what other hobby doesn't cost money? I love having to wrestle with a squirmy overpowered for the chassis rwd beast too, its half the fun! You've set up some expectations for your car now Troy! At least you're realistic and honest. I'd love to get down into the 24's with not too many more mods, gonna have an extra 50 odd rwkws some time this year so that should seal the deal. Its the island that i really want to try to master as its a drivers track not a power prover. Under 55's there and i would be stoked! With all this talk and banter does it mean that all those racers who misplaced their penis are gonna come back and have another lash?

Its really the aussie love for the underdog. GTS T's aren't supposed to go quicker than their big brothers, just like 1970's datsuns aren't supposed to beat silvias and gtst's. Of course it can happen tho if you do the right mods or pump squillions of dollars into your car. The really quick GTR's all have la di da racepace motors, brakes that would cost more than some cars, fresh tyres, big turbos expensive tunes etc etc. Of course they should go fast! Its when the lesser modified and cheaper cars like brisby's GTST of a couple of years ago or Gareth on his street tyres punch out the quick times that gets people talking. Not that its not a massive feat to run in the teens, just that when you modify your car enough its pretty much expected. And everyone wants to bring down the king

some nice pics there, were you in the green 200sx? I was meaning to come up and say hi but din't get the chance. Troy, in relation to the gear thing thats how the ipra 1600 mate drives his too. not sure on the rx7's. i do find it very interesting comparing some cars that seem to be really quick with ones that 'should be' quicker. another classic is mark in his 180b punting around the island in all its 75kw glory a shade quicker than a certain 200rwkw corona. really points to things like power delivery and availability and of course corner speed. i'd be very interested to see what someone who knows how to drive could do with my car

Brisby, i always find it interesting comparing drivers and times and their cars tho. I agree the 180 could be going quicker, it really didn't seem to have much go coming onto the main straight but i would be very surprised to see it into the 22's in its current form. The thing that always gets me is that i often go and watch Improved production as i have a few mates who run in the category. They seem to have less power, less tyres, simpler suspension and smaller brakes but still do fast times. EG early rx7's with carby fed 13B engines on 185 60 14 tyres getting around the island in 1:48s! A friend of mine has a datsun 1600 and has a turbo smaller than ryans, with a 36mm restrictor in front of it running around on 195 50 15s and gets around the power track that is sandown in 1:20 flat. I don't get it, i'm sure they are good steerers but so is mr bell.

Brian track days require 2 balls... and i hadn't been off yet so thought it was about time. I had a great day, dipped into the 1:26s for the first time, was trying to go quicker than the Sil80 coz that always makes for a bit of fun but little mistakes cost me. And i have less power so i guess it was expected there. As for the 1:22's there is a big difference at sandown between a car like the brisby mobile that has 260rwkw and the suspect 220rwkws sil80. I'd say thats a good number of seconds right there. Twas a great day with no rain coming in the end, started to be able to pick off a few of the faster wrx's in my group too which is always fun. Bad luck to Chris stacey too, hope it turns out ok. what ever happened to the days when group 1 was full of rediculously quick gtr's and getting into a track day meant you had to enter as soon as the forms came out!?

i've been dragged in to this one... datto pride and just for a laugh... "Ryan Bell Nissan ??" hahahaha. c'mon brian, its a 180sx -
what a great weekend! no shortage of prep work went into it though - lots of long nights in the shed from everyone gave us the best chance at a trouble free weekend. Thanks to all the helpers, i don't really care that we slipped to 44th it really just means that the mini team that won is just as slow in the dry as they are in the wet. woohoo. If only we could have gotten crossy and ryan to wear a flanny we would have had the best presented team sewn up!

Turbo Manifold Stud Issues On Track Days Help!
LAGWAGON replied to LAGWAGON's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Ok, well i've ordered some oem studs and locking tabs from nissan, and have bought some nifty little locking nuts that are slightly crimped at one end. I was going to buy stainless studs, are the oem ones better? Are the oem studs inconel? also would this recurring problem have anything to do with how the exhaust is hung? it has a hanger in the middle and at the end of the system. i just want to totally eliminate this happening again! -
Hey all, I have had a constant issue that i am sick to death of with the nuts that hold the turbo to the manifold rattling loose on track days. I have an SR20det in my datsun 1600 and initially thought the problem was due to the low mount manifold. I painstakingly made a new topmount manifold thinking that gravity would fix the problem but alas it hasn't. the nuts wind their way up the studs resulting in the car sounding like a truck due to the exhaust leak. i've pulled the turbo off and pulled the studs out. has anyone else experienced this? i also noticed that the merge collector area of the manifold has been very hot and had some flaking on the outside. not sure of this is common either. any help would be appreciated
