  1. last question I have is, which of the two options do I take bolt up the exhaust till the CAT and drive to the nearest exhaust shop and get them to somehow fit it all up? hopefully it wont be loud as f**k buy stock rear section from exhaust place and bolt it all up - and then look for cheap exhaust deals The rear section i have right now is 3 inches with a cannon - is it better for performance to have a stock exhaust with the stock setup or a 3 inch from the CAT back? thanks for the help man - really appreciate it!
  2. Thats the problem - right type etc, just doesn't want to get on (and the front pipe also has a bracket that doesn't match up with the bracket on the chassis where the last CAT had a bracket mounted)... I dont see how but I'm thinking if i get the cat back stock exhaust from the wreckers, it should all bolt up - once i get the car running i can think about getting exhaust work done - dont see any other bloody options Actually forgot to add something important - the front pipe is too long as well, if it was shorter, the rear section might bolt on - getting a stock rear section would solve that - but it still won't solve the problem of it sitting on an angle and not connecting to the bracket
  3. thought i'd take a pic to make it easier for me to explain ... once the dump is connected, the CAT sits almost at this angle - shouldn't it be flat? Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  4. I had the front pipe on but its off now (stupidly placed on the battery as you correctly pointed out) - with the front pipe on and the stock (not modified in any way) cat connected, the cat was sitting on a 45 degree angle instead of being flat like it should be (so out of the 2 bolts on one side of the cat, one was closer the the ground and other was higher - hopefully this explains it). If that is the case, the stuff after that till the muffler doesn't even matter - why would this happen if I have a stock dump pipe, stock front pipe and stock CAT - the CAT should sit parallel to the ground and not at an angle
  5. just changing the turbo from a TR43 that blew up - to an rb25 turbo. on a r32 with rb20 (sorry i know i've taken this thread off topic!)
  6. to answer your question, its a stock dump pipe (came with the rb25 turbo) - and a stock rb25 front pipe - and stock rb20 CAT actually, here's a pic. the one behind it is the old dodgy front/dump pipe - and a spare CAT Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  7. Yea I figured out i was messing with the wrong bolt half way through the install. I actually didn't notice the other one on top of it (actual feed) due to not going low enough beneath the manifold as it was on the car. I've been through that many banjo bolts that I'm pretty sure you're right and i'm just mixing bolt sizes up. On the turbo, I realized that I actually needed the oil feed, not the water feed I know - I'm thinking the same thing - I'm an idiot. So long story short - bolts are sorted (once I get the oil feed one from the wrecker tomorrow and give him back the water feed for the turbo!) As for your dump pipe advice, it makes sense as the back half of the exhaust till the muffler is bigger (3 inch or something). CAT is definately not modified though since I bought a stock r32 CAT today as mine was stuffed and that also doesn't sit right (sits at a 45 degree angle once connected to the front pipe instead of being flat). What would your advice be for me? Keep the front pipe that I have and the CAT and get a stock CAT back exhaust from the wrecker? Appreciate your help mate, I'm really in a tough spot for the last 5 days trying to get this up and running.
  8. I'll take a pic tomorrow mate - trust me I didn't think this would be that much of a hassle - I went to the wreckers and actually got him to pull out an rb20 block and matched a bolt as well as an rb25 turbo and matched the bolt to that. I might have the turbo bolt size wrong, but the water feed was definately smaller than a 14. I'll post pics in this thread soon to help someone else out ... I actually have TWO water feeds in the block, the one I'm using now (with the bolt i got) is an inch directly above the one I had blocked. which obviously added to the bloody confusion... while I've got your attention though, the second issue left is front pipe - everywhere I've looked, rb25 front pipes are supposed to be a direct replacement for rb20's ... I got one from the wreckers, and It doesn't line up the CAT properly etc going again tomorrow to get an rb20 front pipe, any ideas on this? I've run into that many issues with this turbo swap its not even funny ...
  9. I just bought one from the wreckers (r32) - my mech installing the turbo told me mine was fine once he took it off, i though it was definately stuffed. anyway, I paid $50 for it 8 hours ago, you can have it for $40 from box hill (pretty sure its the same cat for r32 and r33?). let me know
  10. ok - so I can 100% confirm that M14 and M18 are WAY too big both for the turbo and the block for an rb20. Three trips to pirtek and I'm over it. I've just gone to the wreckers and luckily found the bolts that I need, would love to tell everyone what size it is for future reference, but no idea how to measure etc Its smaller than M14 for SURE though. Thanks for the help anyway, hopefully this thread helps someone in the future...
  11. Thanks mate - im gonna goto repco tomorrow and get two bolts (M14 x 1.5 and M18 x 1.5) just to double check the size and then goto pirtek and swap the ones i got yesterday and hopefully be on my way!
  12. And you uploaded a picture - you sir, are a legend. Wish i could return the favor! Thanks a million! off to pirtek tomorrow! quick question, what block was it? what year rb20? hopefully they're not different btw, do I just tell them M14 x 1.5 or does that iirc bit need to be included (not too savvy on the bolt measurement schemes).
  13. started another thread - just need banjo bolt size for the rb20 block water return and ill be sweet - getting different answers though
  14. thanks for the spanner sizes ... so thats one out of the way and two ideas for the water block side, would nissan know the exact size if i call them? Also just thought, it it a good idea to get these two bolts from repco (not banjo, just normal) to check the size?
  15. Thanks Zebra - appreciate the quick response, as soon as someone confirms the water return for rb20 blocks, I'll go to pirtek (probably tomorrow) and hopefully they'll exchange both banjo's without argument (i have receipts etc) Cheers
  16. Guys I'm in a tough spot and need some quick guidance - My turbo install is stuck because of banjo bolts. I need to know what size the water return on an RB20 block is for the banjo bolt as well as what it is on the RB25 stock turbo for water feed. desperate! please help From what i've read, here's what i've found but i need someone to confirm this so I don't waste $50 from pirtek on another incorrect size bolts! Water return on the rb20 block is M16x1.5, can't find any size for the water feed to the rb25 turbo thanks for your help fellas
  17. Guys, really desperate to find a water return banjo bolt for rb20 block and an oil feed banjo bolt for r33 turbo. Ill pay whatever!!! Prefer in Vic but willing to pay next day shipping. Help a brother out!
  18. and the more I look - the more difficult it is to look for banjo bolts apparantly, i'm going to see Pirtek tomorrow to see what they have, can't find the size of a stock r33 turbo oil feed and the rb20 block water return banjo bolts anywhere!!
  19. well the bolt came out 20 minutes after I posted this, that was the only good news for the night though!!! Found out the braided oil line doesn't fit the turbo end (thread is wider) Found out I don't have the banjo bolt for the water return - the one I got with the r33 turbo won't fit the rb20 block (its too big) The front pipe I got doesn't seem to be fitting in too well, it might once I've lined everything up but I've got a bad feeling about it - anyone know if the front pipe from 33's fit 32 exhausts? *Edit* just read up on it and apparantly they're a straight swap - so bit of sunshine!!! Overall, my back is WRECKED and I'm exhausted. The turbo is sitting on the manifold so I guess its a step forward. Once I get the banjo bolt from somewhere somehow tomorrow, I will fit that and the stock oil feed line, and connect everything else up except the front pipe and hopefully have everything done before I have to tackle the front pipe. I'm VERY tempted at this stage to call a guy called "Rob". Sam (Drdrift) recommended I call him if I need help installing the turbo and he might do a house job and come help me put it together... lets see how i feel tomorrow thanks for your support!
  20. yea nah i sourced the bolts today from the wrecker - just can't get the old bolt the mechanic used to block the water return from the block (old turbo was oil cooled only)
  21. I should be fine (thanks though)... ive been looking around for 20 minutes now, any idea where I can find a picture of the water return on the block? I just need to make sure I'm working on the right one there aren't many around so pretty sure ive got the right one. I'm pretty sure I'm going to strip the bolt and have to call the thread doctor tomorrow
  22. I just compared and pretty sure the braided oil line i had made will fit the new turbo straight! good news! I can't get the freakin bolt that was put in to block the water return why is it always ONE bolt that ruins your day!
  23. I have the one on the turbo - need the one that goes to the block (think they're the same?). I have a braided oil line for the TR43, reckon I can use it on the stock 33 turbo? it would make life alot easier for me as its already connected to the block. Also, is it worthwhile replacing the turbo to manifold gasket (metal) or can I reuse the one i have? I'm going to a wrecker soon so I'll get the banjo bolt from them, and also the intake rubber pipe I will need to connect my pod filter... I'll also need to get the gaskets for turbo to exhaust (guessing an exhaust place would have them). Thanks
  24. I do have a decent enough selection of tools. Got the turbo today (stock r33 turbo) in very good nick - felt the bug so took a spanner to the car around 10pm, its 2am now and the turbo is off the car along with the exhaust till the CAT and my hands are full of bruises but really pleased with what ive got so far! planning to put it back together tomorrow and everything looks like it'll fall in place since the turbo came with dump pipe and oil/water lines etc. the only issue i see is the piping to the cooler and the intake, not sure how it'll get connected to the cooler pipe since the setup on the TR43 was different, and im guessing ill need the stock black rubber hose to connect my pod filter? Quick couple of questions for you guys ... 1) will i be able to put the turbo in with the lines / dump connected from the top of the engine or will i need to take the dump / lines off first? 2)where can i source the banjo bolt for the water line the quickest - forgot to get it with the turbo thanks for your help again, i'll be so stoked if im able to pull this off myself!
  25. yea that seems to happen everytime I visit a workshop - I looked in the workshop recommendations section and rang a few places in the south east. Would prefer going somewhere close (I'm in Box Hill) - been to revzone before and ended up costing alot more than originally quoted so looking for somewhere else, racepace seems to be really good but their quote was a bit too much for my budget!
