Pinging is also known as knocking basically its an uncontrolled detonation. When your spark plug fires it has a controlled/smooth burn of the petrol but when its really hot per say then the fuel will ignite before the flame from the spark can get to it, combusting suddenly before the optimum moment aka the Power Stroke. This uncontrolled detonation creates a shockwave which reverberates in the chamber creating a "Pinging" Sound. The Pinging sound is distinctly a metallic sort of pinging sound. And thats what Pinging is If you want to check if your Piston rings are f**ked do a compression test dry & wet obviously. If you get two totally differnt results on a cylinder from the Dry compared to the wet, then your rings could possibly be screwed.

Surely you've all seen the R33 with an LS1 in it?? "Interesting to note that with the LS1 + T56 combo the Skyline now weighs 10 kg's less than it did with the RB25DETT and it's normal 5 speed gearbox. And, the gearstick apparently lines up perfectly with where it normally should be. Now, I've always complained that an LS1 in a Silvia chassis is too big and heavy (and I still stand by that) but in a R33 Skyline, it's perfect! The engine bay was made for a long engine anyway and the car is medium sized so this engine suits it perfectly. The only downside is a crappier gearshift quality (the Nissan box is generations ahead) but otherwise, it's a great swap." taken from http://www.supercars.net/PitLane?viewThrea...fID=1&tID=51523

Thats a very unfair comment. The key to cars is not being biased towards any make so that you can then accept the cars which do have the goods aka. If i was offered an LS2 Clubsport or a GTO i can gaurantee I wouldnt say no, They are awesome! 0-100 in 5.1 and 1/4 mile in 13.3 you get a whole heap of car aswell! Sure youll say "errr they dont handle blah blah pushrods blah blah" but they're not exactly made for handling. If you hate other cars aka Holdens then your just as bad as the bogans yelling abuse at all the skylines.

Opinions On 33 Gtr Build Quality And Reliability
Dingo replied to my03's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I was under the impression that if you were too Import a car it would be considerably Cheaper than buying one in Australia. Aka - 40k for a 33 GTR in AuS -20-30k For a 33 GTR from Japan Obviously you flip a coin to see if you get a good one or a Lemon from Japan but am I wrong about pricing? -
Hrmmmm not too bad really, I think if anything its too "new" & "futuristic" looking. I dont hate it and I dont love it...........yet........ Anyone know what its packing?

Wow, I didnt realise they were as equally bad as the V8's are on petrol. -
BOV isnt a "Go fast" mod. Just gets rid of the pressure on the intake manifold.

2005 Sydney Motor Show (huge Pics)
Dingo replied to Ronin 09's topic in General Automotive Discussion
If the EFIJY ever made it past Concept (never will) and you could buy it, I wouldnt care how much it costs etc etc Ide buy it without even thinking. Old school cars = The car apparently - Automotive excess pounds through a 480-kilowatt, supercharged six-litre V8 engine and airadjustable shock absorbers through to a touch control LCD screen and fan-cooled LED headlamps. Powertrain · Engine: GM 6.0-litre, LS2 aluminium V8 with Roots-type supercharger · Bore and stroke: 101.6 mm x 92.0 mm · Compression ratio: 10.9:1 · Power and torque: 480kW (645 bhp) @ 6400 rpm · Torque: 775Nm (560 ft/lb) @ 4200 rpm I dont care how bad it would handle etc etc I would love to own it! - End Rant -
skyline vs commodore = who would win?
Dingo replied to liner32's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Theres nothing really wrong with push rods. If the system works, no need to change it. NASCAR engines push upwards of 750hp with no forced induction and those engines use pushrods and carburetors. -
R33 Gtst Where Does Ur Rpm Sit At 100kms

^^ I thought I saw you in a skyline the other day, I wasnt 100% sure but it seems my eyes wern't seeing things after all. August 1991 The entry list for Bathurst is released – there is a full field of 57 entries without resorting to padding out the entry list with the Group E production cars. There is a media and test day at Bathurst – some of the leading teams appear including the Gibson team. Jim cleans up the test day with the fastest lap (2:14.95s) and reaching 299kph on Conrod Straight. Win Percy almost matches with 297kph in his Commodore. Just incase you missed it in the Skyline area, here it is again. After the GT-R Concept unveiled at the 35th Tokyo Motor Show in 2001, Nissan presents the GT-R PROTO, a vision of the next production model that will be on sale in 2007. Exterior design The design of the GT-R PROTO expresses GT-R heritage, coming from the first model PGC10 (1969) through R34 (1999), in a new and expressive form. From its original roots as a pure-bred Japanese performance car, the new GT-R will now be a car sold globally, recognising its ability to compete with the very best in the world. For the first time in its history, the new GT-R will be designed as a specific body-style, and not derived from a sedan. The form of the GT-R PROTO instantly expresses its purpose and potential, but in a way that is unique to this iconic car. At the front end, the single centre air intake is designed to optimise airflow and to strongly link the identity of the GT-R from R34 to GT-R Concept (2001). Front fenders are uniquely designed through intensive analysis of the airflow around the tyres and the air vent behind the front fender also optimises aerodynamics. The sides of the body are sculptured towards the rear fender, expressing the power and dynamic tension of the car. Nissan GT-R Proto Concept The overall shape of the body combines solid and smooth surfaces. The unique C-pillar crease is designed for optimum aerodynamics, reflecting the racing DNA of the GT-R. The rear of the GT-R PROTO is strong and defined. The signature four ring-shaped tail lamps provide an immediate visual link to previous GT-R models. Four large-bore exhaust pipes complete the purposeful look. The GT-R PROTO provides for the first time a clear indication of the final design direction for the production model to be launched in 2007, the first all-new GT-R in eight years. Taken from http://carbodydesign.com/ In my oppinon the rear end of it looks similar to a corvette.

Hrmmm ive thought of this before but my story goes like this My mate bought an R33 GTST and he took us in it quite allot for a thrash and i found that it'd kick me into the seat pretty hard (this car was super stock) and at the time he had it i was 100% pro V8 because i was never really exposed to these cars. Anyhow so we went in that afew times then one night we got chopped by a VH V8 commodore (I blame that mainly on his poor driving) but still, the commodore had a car and a half on us and he had a full car! So anyhow i went in my mates brothers VX SS V8, and i wasnt impressed at all, like you got abit of a kick when you changed gears but it was nothing compared to the skylines constant pushing. So that changed my perception on V8's a little. Then after years of hearing stories from my dad about my uncles worked XY falcon that he had back in the day snapping his head back every time he changed gears and doing trips which would take half an hour in about 15 minutes (country town)........but that car got written off when he was going to quickly over a hill and got air borne So anyhow, back up to my uncles house for a visit and hes got him self a BA XR8 Falcon. So i was keen for a ride in that. Out we went, and ill have to say, that it hardly even brang a smile to my face which is what a muscle car should do. I could tell from the way we took the corners that braking in it would be something shocking the only enjoyment was the 200km/h run we did. But in all my rambling all ive goto say is that the kick in the V8's have been allot different compared to what my mates skyline had. This is where im besides myself all the time though, im always changing my mind about which car to buy, so its still between a GTR R33 and a V8 with an LS1 love them both. Anyhow take it easy fellas, im making myself sleepy writing this long response

What if you were in a stock r33 GTR. Would you smoke the SS from the 100km roll, or would the SS smoke you?
-
I agree, my mates R33 GTST drank as much petrol as my other mates VS V8.
-
thats true, but still theres a LPG turbo Calais on Fullboost that runs a 10 second pass on the 1/4 mile. Go have alook its in the video/media section.

You musnt know about the "Ecocommodore" - Hybrid car from holden electric motor + petrol motor. Or even the Fords which run on LPG, thats an alternative to the Petrol Guzzlers. Another V8 hybrid is the BMW hydrogen cars http://www.bmwworld.com/hydrogen/ Just so you know, im not particularly biased towards any car, if you hate a car company, when they do produce something good youll always be thinking "nah its shit" when its actually not that bad. GTR's are still badass cars

Hey all, im in this similar delimea in deciding. The way ive wayed it out is like this Buying a GTST Its cheaper to buy and the money ide save on buying a GTST insted of a GTR could be put back into the car to make it faster. BUT when i go to sell the car i wont get as much as i would for a GTR. Advantage - GTST is RWD, so stepping it out etc = GTR - Allot more powerful, and move advanced options. When time comes to sell i will get allot more for it (importing it that is). BUT my one question comes down to all the GTR drivers out there. Is it possible to step the back out in a GTR, or is it not the same as doing so in a GTST. That is the one question thats keeping my up at night and tossing and turning in my sleep.
