Yeah Slip I'm starting to think the same, the only reason I was originally going to use R31 GTS stuff is because I thought it would be an easy bolt in but as I've now realised it aint so easy when you can't find a set in oz. Think I'll just get some big DBA disks and make up the dog bones for the calipers. Only prob is I haven't found any decent inserts for the R31 struts either. What about s13 or s14 struts ?? does anyone know if they are close to R31??

GTS-t Vspec: Japanese and US pistons are not made from the same material, if you have a look at the manufactures websites they all claim to use different levels of silicon, copper & magnesium in there alloys. With Alloys just as most things there is cheap shiit(TRW) and good shiit(Cosworth) And most Jap pistons are made by Cosworth or machined from elcheapo one size fits all blanks. The point I was making was don't just assume a piston is better because it is forged Sydneykid: so motorcycle pistons are different, now it makes more sence because as I couldn't understand everyones eagerness to used forged pistons...that and the fact that I know for a fact most V8 forgies are way heavier than the standard cast pistons (learnt this building a clevo for a friend last week). But RB/SR engines along with other Japanese hi performance engines must be different. Thanks for the info As Merli said JUN is a huge orgaisation and make just about every engine part and supply them to OEM. but they don't make there own "JUN" branded pistons, Cosworth do....go figure. it even says it in their catalog......you just have to check out what you actually buying. HKS don't produce everything they sell in fact they are quite good at ripping off other companies designs and having copies made, a lot of people don't want to hear that!! but at the same time they do make and sell some awesome gear. Good to see some informed technical discussion going on.

what stickers have people got on there nissans

Word! Somethings should just stop when you turn 16......asking for autographs, playing with matchbox cars & putting stickers on things you own:D -
Its not really about what there made from, almost all pistons are made from some form of aluminium alloy, cast or forged. Not all forged pistons are made from the same material. The cheaper "off the shelf pistons" such as Wiseco, Arias etc are generally heavier than custom made forged pistons, and as I have been told, standard cast pistons. There are good reasons for using forgies such as changing comp ratio & capacity and Wiseco Arias etc are all good quality items. What I'm getting at is what is the point of using forged pistons unless you are going oversize or changing comp?? Because using forged pistons may make your engine produce less power. Thats why I am asking if anyone has weighed them.
-
So as long as your engine has a well designed cast piston and you stop detonation there is no need to use forged pistons. I've mainly worked on motorbike engines & I know many tuners say the fastest way to detune an engine is put forged pistons in as they are usually heavier than cast, unless you use well made forgies like cosworth or Japanese factory pistons, not Wiseco, Arias, JE etc. Has anyone here measured the weight of a stock RB or SR piston compared with a forgie, I'd be interested to know which was lighter.

This is the only form of drifting I've perfected. Its where you "Hit the gutter and Rip a wheel off":D Rear wheels - a good place for beginners to start Front left - more advanced Front right - maximum street cred!! Bonus points for ripping a wheel off and still completing the next corner!

Guys I know this is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string but I just got a bill I cant believe!! I took a CA18DET block, crank and rods, all in good low k condition but all from different engines to a engine machine shop & asked them to check clearences and machine if required & hone the block so I could use them to build a new engine. No assembly required just machineing...Has anyone had similar work done?? How much would you expect to pay??? I've had three engines done by this guy in the last year and always been happy with the work but I'm starting to wonder if I'm getting ripped!!

Fhuck thats a load of crap.....they really are running out of ways to make money aren't they!!!!! next thing it'll be 50cents a tyre to peel off the stickers and screw on the valve caps....this sort of crap shiits me coz they pray on people with no idea and give them the old "is your safety worth an extra $5 a wheel" .......wankers

Semi slick???? thats a bit like being half pregnent isn't it???

Malaysian driver booked doing773km/hr

If you want to see a JATO rocket in action on a car have a look at the movie "Cannonball Run" the police car that spins out in the desert has one mounted east west across the car to put it into a spin. The stuntman drove along at 50mph and then hit the go button......its an awesome spin it goes into....I don't think they ever used this set up again!!! -
Cool, thats what I wanted to hear....coz until someone actually says they have done it themselves or has a car with them fitted you can never be that sure. I'm chasing them up at the moment...i'm onto one yard in japan that has meant to have a bit of GTS-X stuff so I'll see how I go. Its a bit hard getting an answer out of them sometimes........Q: are they standard struts or GTS struts A: yes....thats what I'm dealing with at the minute!! but there have to be some around somewhere!!

Thanks for the info guys!! R31 Skyline Chick : I'm going to bring in a set (hopefully) and make sure for myself that they do interchange and if all is good I'll get afew more sets depending on availability coz i've got a few mates chasing them as well , if it works out I'll let you guys know. Cheers MIK

Well I know I've asked this before .....but I've never really got an answer, just hoping there is someone new here who can help, here goes.... I need to find out if the front struts in aussie delivered R31 GTS are the same as the Japanese R31 GTS???? I've called Nissan, importers, wreckers etc but never been able to get an answer....... there must be an R31 expert lurking out there somewhere. I'm trying to find out because I need a set of Aussie R31 GTS Struts and can't find any but I know I could probably bring in some from Japan if they're the same!! A thousand thank u's in advance MIK

I've lived in two houses were they have set up either in front of my place or just down the road.......the novelty wears off very quick when you're getting tested 5 times a week or worse 3 times in 20minutes......its a crack up when they set up just past my place and as they're waving me in I just turn into my driveway...they go on a mission coz they think its someone trying to do a runner!!!
-
Its better if you can shave 10mm off the hub/disc mounting surface if possible cause there usually worth lees than the wheels plus there is usually a bit of metal to work with. Shaving wheels is a bit scary.....might make them a bit weak

Grouse !!!

I've seen them advertised in UNIQUE CARS a few times aswell if your interested:flamed:

Black keeps absorbing at the same rate, it doesn't stop. Black's emmisisivity is constant it doesn't change with heat absorbed
-
yeah, I was half joking...... piston design(dome, dish, cutaways), deck height & cyl head cc are the main contributors to changing compression ratio see ya
-
Boring a cylinder usually raises comp not lowers it! unless of cause you leave the same pistons in there:bahaha:
-
Nah just a old Wolf 3D on a CA18det. Ive got the controller mounted on the steering column....only takes a few seconds to hit all the buttons:D You just reminded me of a question I was going to ask a while ago.....safc, f-con, power fc are these all replacement ECU's ?? and what does safc stand for or is that the brand name???

Too easy in my car Step one: change fuel map to +30% rich step Two: lower rev limit to 4000 step three: flat change at 3900rpm result: fireball + mushroom cloud scares the shyt out of tailgaters & pedestrians:D

Does anyone know if someone has built a 4wd silvia ?? Any links or photos?? I know it sounds a bit out there but after seeing Silvia & GTR utes and a Nissan Taxi complete with RB26 and drum brakes in Japan I know they're capable of anything!!
-
Thanks meggala I'll give them a go but I'm chasing pistons for my CA18DET. I think that may be half my problem its easy to get RB or SR stuff but CA bits are either hard to get or pricey cause they're not as popular
-
Cool, thanks for that, I'll give Wiseco another go...I spose they'll tell me who the local dist is Cheers Mick
