Just a heads up guys.My son purchased my R33 GTS-T off me when I leased a ForesterXT. Gee I loved that car. Anyway. He drove to golf at Kogarah Golf Course on thursday to play with a mate. he came back to it at 2.15pm and noticed the drivers door was unlocked. On opening the door he found the ignition switch was smashed on the floor but luckily nothing else but some coin and sunnies taken. It looks like the immobiliser stopped them getting away with it. The disturbing thing was they got in without damage to the locks or windows. We got it flat topped home . We were a bit suspious of a car that turned up and parked just opposite and watched us unload the car.I spoke to a mate who is a cop and gave him the rego of the car, though my son found out where the car is from and so we don't think it had anything to do with the attempt We got a new barrel for the ignition and all is good. While talking to my local import shop they had heard of at least 6 cars stolen in the shire recently.

Turbo cars without BOV's or disconnected are cops to drive, and you could cause damage to your turbo. Company"s spend good money on designing and developing these things for a reason.
-
Are you going to put an other BOV on in another position? You aren't going to run without one are you?
-
I had a TX3 turbo ,4wd. Had a big system put on it but the droning noisy was giving me a headache. I tried everthing but couldn't fix it. Went to an exhaust place near me run by an older guy. The problem is with these smaller engines at normal cruising speed is the exhaust gas doesn't fill the muffler so you get this surging and resonance. He had up a mute, really just a washer that fitted in the tip to back choke the muffler and keep it full. worked wonders, got rid of the droning and since it is so far from the engine it doesn't cause restriction probs.

Really , there are no bad oils these days. They are made to API specs . Of course a good synthetic is the way to go.

Now let me get this right. Caltex makes all the fuels in Qld. So what does BP Bulver Island Refnery do? How come when Caltex Lytton is down we ship finished product from Caltex Kurnell? Read what I wrote above. I am not a mate or a mate of a mate who has heard something about fuel. I have worked for caltex for 26 yrs. The units I operate produce gasoline with a RON of between 95 to 102 .These are then blended with other gasoline run downs from lower octane units to produce the fuel, that is able to meet Federal Government specs. Normally plus or minus half an octane number Shell fuel is not identical to our fuel because of different crudes that are run and our process units are different in design and age to shell. They add their own additives. Caltex only adds a cleaning agent to keep fuel systems clean. Although we do add ethanol to some brand ed fuel in Qld.

Your mate mustn't know much. If he looks out from his office he will see BP Bulwer Island Refinery. There are two refineries in Qld. CALTEX Lytton BP Bulwer. In NSW. CALTEX Kurnell SHELL Clyde In VIC SHELL Geelong MOBIL Altona. In SA MOBIL Port Stanvac has closed down In WA BP Kwinnana Also there is a lot more than that. Each Rrefinery uses different designed units to get their octane specs.

Sutherland People, Where Do I Find A Carlovers Or Equivalent?
kimbod replied to Abo Bob's topic in New South Wales
There is one on Taren Pt road near the Bob Jane .There is a little guy at the Caltex on the corner of Woolaware Rd and Burreneer Bay Rd who does a great job. There is one on President Ave between Caringbah and Miranda. -
Bob. If you are an older guy, use the bikes at the riding course. Pay the hire fee. Don't pay lots for your first bike ,maybe even an old rego'd dirt bike because somewhere along the line you will drop it. After you have an unlimited license ride every bike you can demo up to 600's. Take your time and get something you are comfortable with. Build up your experience and do advanced riding courses and ride days. Don't worry about sprokets and chains ,use a good quality chain lube and regular cleaning and lubing will help the last. Chains, sprockets etc are consumerables they wear out. Take a bike riding mate along with you to try bikes . Also use good helmets and gloves.I'm and older guy and have a Fireblade which I tour on , do track days, etc. I love Phillip Island and the snowies Good Luck , and remember you WILL come off or be bumped off by some idiot. You will also become a much better driver as well

Leaning Out The Mixtures Vs Fuel Types
kimbod replied to lordsnipe's topic in General Automotive Discussion
You are confusing mixture and timing. You could pour the 95 in and still get it to ping. Remove some timing and it would go away. That's what the knock sensor does, retards timing when it starts knocking. That's a simplistic way to look at it -
Head Lights. Does Your Car Do This?
kimbod replied to jrocket's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Shouldn't fail you. R33's are complied like that. It is simple to have them on when you hit high beam. Gives a bit more light on the road. We all know how feeble the headlights are . -
It's not the camshaft that can't keep up, it's the speed at which the valves have to operate that is the problem. They open and close so fast you get valve float. To stop this you have to use stronger valves springs or dual springs. This becomes a game of diminishing returns as revs rise so do spring resistance , sapping power to open and close the stiffer springs ,etc Ducati and earlier Mercedes use Desmodromic valve operation. This system doesn't use valve springs but levers off the camshaft to positively open and close the valves. Pneumatic valves just use air or N2 for springs

Is My Suspension The Problem, Or Is It Me?
kimbod replied to bombastic's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
You might find that the suspension is shot. My R33 was like that till I put new shocks in it[ well second hand Bilsteins, which are better after a rebuild] Bet you find it crappy going down the Kingsway from Caringbah to Cronulla. Mine still makes a bit of noise down there. -
Write a letter first explaining it all. Then when you get a reply you either pay or decide to take it to court. You never go to court without legal representation. That's the way the system works. Remember the judge ,etc were all lawyers once . One of the best, if not the best traffic lawyer around Sydney is Marc Stenberg in Hornsby. If the letter doesn't get you off talk to him.

Bendix Ultimates + Machined Discs = Squealing?
kimbod replied to QRI05E's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Are the discs still above minimum thickness? I had trouble with my R33 fronts that were screaming with Bendix brakes. Tried everthing. When I took them off and was about to have them machined we found they were a long way under minimum. By the book, there is about 2-3 mm between new and not to be machined. Put some DBA slotteds on. Screaming gone. -
Thanks Darrin. There is an Autech up there in Q'land I may have to come up and have a look at. Yeah I don't think we will see any Nismo ones here yet or ever
-
Now this is starting to get confusing. Thanks for the help guys.

Do autech put the good axles and stuff into the RS260 or just left the normal stuff
-
Hi all. Just want to get some help from you guys. Thinking of selling my R33 gts-t and getting a Stagea.I am getting different answers about the 260RS and the AUTECH. Are they the same or not. I rang Shannons and got two different quotes for them . The Autech was about $300.00 dearer. I then spoke to a guy who is selling one and he said they were the same. Could anybody give me the proper answer please.

Ring Mark Stenberg at Lawstop in Hornsby. He is the best traffic law lawyer around. He got my son off 2 fines that would have taken his P's away
-
I picked up a second R33GST-T Mines ECU and couldn't be happier. It cleaned up the mid range, removed the 180kl/h speed limit, raised the rev limit and threw a bit more fuel in up top. I used to run Vortex 96 now Vortex 98 in the car. When I ran it on the dyno recently , the operator was suprised at how strong it was. He put a lot of it down to the computer. Even if they are tuned for 100+ ron any knocking picked up by the sensers will retard the ignition.

Contesting An "alledge" Speeding Ticket.
kimbod replied to hungry6's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Hey Hungry. Google everything you can find on LIDAR. There are heaps of things. I have a thing from the bbc about how inaccurate they are. This is the problem, the cops tell us they are always right when due to positioning and other problems the results are wrong. I think I also saw a thing on the different australian radars, and the conditions the should and should not be used in. -
Have a look around. I have a factory 4door sedan with 5sp manual. i know I'm biased but I think they look better.
