  1. yes i started reading some of that, and from the wikipedia site.. but i was more wondering why it does it and idle, and at 100km/ph, and yet i havent ever seen it doing it much before.. i was wondering if it meant my gauge has been a bit unreliable or if i should be getting the turbo looked at... but then again, it might be completely normal and i can go back to sleeping at nights lol...
  2. yeah i get what your saying there.. dont know enough myself to know if thats right or not but it sounds like it could be.. what worries me though is i've had the car almost two years and never really noticed it doing that before lol...
  3. whats manifold vacuum? is that a fault or something that can be fixed?
  4. hi there.. lately i have noticed that my factory boost guage in my 32 always seems to be showing a bit of boost, even at idle, its always under 0 at idle but it sits a bit above -7... the needle goes back down when the car is off so its not a stuck needle, but was wondering if this is common or if my turbo etc. could be stuffed? cheers
  5. hi there.. have noticed lated on my auto r32 rb20det that on a cold idle, there seems to be a light tapping (hard to explain) noise that is coming from the engine somewhere.. it is more apparant in nuetral or reverse.. but is completely gone once the car has warmed up... am worried its something major like an oil pump or something? the sound has a bit of depth do it, but itsnt like a strong knocking noise either... am quite sure its not tappets as its more of a rythmic tap as opposed to a tick... lol, sounds silly to decribe but i hope someone can help cheers, damo
  6. yep found it.. thanks for that dude...
  7. Hi there.. Just installed a GReddy Turbo Timer into my R32.. which was easy casue it came with the right loom etc... but the only thing im not sure about is how to defeat the "push button to release key from ignition" thing... the turbo timer works fine, but i cant take the key out of the ignition until the car turns off! lol.. anyone know how to get around this? cheers, damo
  8. ok.. this question may seem noobish but either way.. i have noticed that on the hottest of hot days i loose almost all of the performance from my r32 gtst and my oil pressure seems to go quite low on idle... is this normal? on every other day the oil pressure and performance are absolutely fine, but when its a really hot sunny day, things arent so great... any ideas? cheers damo
  9. ive had a bit of a look through the fuse box and everything seems sweet.. although i dont know specifically which fuse is for the demister as i cant read japanese.. but i am quite certain its not a fuse... there must be a relay or some sort of other control unit for these.. any ideas? esp if even the orange light doesnt go on the button...
  10. Hi there.. Im my R32, my rear window demister doesnt go.... now I've searched already and didnt get anywhere.. so bear with me.. I have pulled the switch out of the cluster, and tested it to be good, so i know its not the on/off button at fault... all of the wires etched on the glass are fine as ive tested them too... so there must be another part of it, like a relay or something, but i dont know where it is! any suggestions... the orange light doesnt even come on when the button is pressed... Cheers, Damo
  11. hi all.. firstly, i have tried the search which didnt really get me anywhere so heres my question.. i want to lower my skyline, partly for handiling but also for looks... now my standard shocks failed a while ago and i had them replaced with some nismo gas shocks.. i dont know how many k's the shocks has done when i got them, but they seem to be in good nick and have been working well... (they are blue in colour, and have jap writing all over them, except for the NISMO logo, perhaps someone could id these?).. so i want to know if its safe to use a lowering spring with these, and if so, what a good brand and type is? cheers, damo car is a 91 r32 skyline gtst sedan with around 150ks on clock... cheers
  12. Can tell you from personal experience about the pioneers... if you ever get alternator noise and you own a resonably late model headunit, check this first!! most common cause is not having a good enough earth for your amps, or having your gains set at the wrong level on your amp... its not a major to repair tho, but its knowing to check it... funny though, i like my pionner, but who the hell would put a fuse on an earth of all thing?! definitly fused power lines, but the earth? yikes... cheers, damo
  13. yeah you can get them repaired, but the repair will cost more than a $89 sub.. or at least veryt close too it if your lucky... i owuldnt bother personally.. and some of those pioneer subs go quite hard... depends what your expecting really... have a listen to them beofre you buy and see if they meet your requirements... but one thing to keep in mind... if your burning out voice coils you may want to look at why before you sink any big money into another sub (i.e not enough power from amp or running excessive power etc etc..)... cheers, damo
  14. yeah, i dont know what that says but what i do know is they require a map disk to run... undortunately they're hard to find, especially for nz/australia... i believe there are some companies that make map disks in oz/nz but i think the disks have to be model/make speciific, which narrows your odds down to slim i would think... for all the hassle, i would think about a different head unit perhaps..
  15. the jvc dvd player/all in one head units will play cds/ mp3s everything fine.. but will only play dvd's if they are connectet to the handbrake and the handbrake is on... its a safety feature so that you cant watch movies while driving and be distracted.. you might find the handbrake lead hasnt been hooked up... there is also a way around it.. i think if you ground that lead everyhting will work ok... but dont quote me on that... could be wrong.. anyway, hope that stears you in the right direction.. cheers, damo
  16. Head Unit: Pioneer DEH-P8650 Front speakers: Rockford Fosgate FNX-6214 Components Rear speakers: Rockford Fosgate 6.5" 3way Punch Coax Sub/s: Rockford Fosgate P3 DVC 12" Amp/s: Rockford Fosgate P4004 (for speakers) and Rockford Fosgate P3001 (for sub) What a nightmare R32 4door skylines are for sound systems... took me a while to get the car sound deaden'd, and to make custom mounts for the amps, sub box and front speakers... actually, the only easy thing in the car was the rears... still, results are what counts and I am really happy with the sounds now...
  17. Hi there.. Thought I'd post up the results so that anyone having similar issues might get some ideas... the auto electrician found that a lot of bits had dropped off the pcb in my HICAS computer... he resoldered them all back on, and seems to be fine so far.. If anyone else out there has had similar symptoms, it might pay to get your ecu checked out... he said that it was a combination of old/dry joints and everyday vibration from the vehicle operating... cheers, damo
  18. ha ha.. yes , umm.. private road... anyway, was going to pull the chime out, but when i had a look at the unit it seemed to have two wires rather than one, so wasnt sure which to cut (as the diy i read said there should only be one... but i must admit my nerves had got the better or me by that point so i wasnt looking as well as i could have..).. but that was a few months ago, and this playing up has only been recently, so im sure its not whe i went in there... haveing said that, the dicky chiming and the speedo sticking has always been there... .. the chime is erratic though.. it only comes on occasionally over 100kph, and always gives up at 110... is that actually normal? sounds quite sick when its going.. no regular tune or anything.. sounds like a dozen old bicycle bells being chucked around in platic bag really...
  19. Hi there.. Yeah I have noticed that over a 100K/ph the needle seems to sticm sometimes, nad then free up as you keep accelerating... but its playing up mostly at 50K, which the needle seems to be fine.. Have also noticed the 100K+ warning chime sounds very sick sometimes, and quite often doesnt come on, or only comes on between 100-110 kph, and never seems to work at 120-160kph... Wonder if that is all related... Have booked the car into a specialist auto electrician in the enarest city as I cannot find any local mechanics who seem to want to know/have any idea... Just hope the auto electrician can fix it (although when I was speaking to him, he reckons it wont be the speed sensor as he said if it was faulty, the speedo would go at all... he seems to thing it will be steering wheel sensors.. which I find hard to believe as it plays up even in a straight line, and I still have the factory m-spec steering wheel)... Anywya, thanks again for the quick replies, and if you think of anything else I can check/do, let me know (its a couple of days before the car goes in, and I'm not looking forward to the bill)... Cheers, Damo
  20. Hi there.. In my R32 GTS-t Skyline (1991) I have developed a bit of a problem where the power steering randomly shuts off, along with the HICAS light appearing... No before you all say that its been covered and do a search.. I have searched, and see that others have had this problem, but no one has posted a solution... The thing is, my mechanic (and all the others in town) dont seem to be able to help me... I have checked the fluid level, and its fine.. I dont have an after market steering wheel.. I ran the HICAS diagnostic, and it said that there is an issue with the Speed Sensor and the Gear Selector (its an auto)... the thing that I cant figure is why would it shut the powre steering off for either of these faults? I have had the power steering pump and belts checked, and they're sweet... Also, there is no pattern to it switching off.. it will do it in either a straight line, or a corner, and and any speed... If it was just a light that blinked up, I wouldnt worry.. But I dont want a car that turns off power steering any time it wants.. Things like that can lead to nasty surprises!.. Please help, I'm really not sure what to do next!! Cheers, Damian
  21. as far as im aware.. if it has dual rca outputs, then you will be able to fade between them.. cheers, damo
  22. Hi there.. I noticed that if you remove the trunk lining on the left and right hand walls in my R32 GTS-t, there is somthing bolted on both sides behind the metalwork, on the boot side of the tirewells... There are wires going to both, but havent been keen to pull them out... does anyone know what these are or what they do... was wondering if one of them might be for my rear demister or something (as I've having some probs with it at the mo, so I'm exploring)... I noticed a large Blue/Red wire going to the one on the left hand side, amongst others... any ideas? Cheers, Damo
  23. does anyone know if the r32 has one of these relay box things... and what it looks like? or where under the dash it might be? cheers, damo
  24. umm.. yeah, i dont know, its not cold here at the mo, was kinda counting on the light... its a good point tho... is there any way of testing the rails?
  25. is there any other parts to them? or are they just a switch, a fuse and a set of rails on the back window? is there any other control box or something i could check? i've been into the local auto electrician and he cant be bothered... geez small towns are shocking.. cheers, damo
