  1. I wish i was in that position, because you know that if he/she's spent that much on a number plate, he/she's crossed a lot of things off their 'things to do with my money' list to get down to 'buy an expensive numberplate'. plus, it's probably the only truly unique thing in the auto industry these days. There always a chance that someone else will pull up next to you in an identical murcielago/reventon/Aston DBS but no-one will EVER pull up next to you with the #1 numberplate.

    Was this TGA or TGUK?
  3. Nothing will top the R33 (full GTR kit) I saw at uni the other day drive past with a mustang badge where the 'GTR' should go in the grille.
  4. Nope, it's real alright. Check Here Mustang Motorsports is somewhere around where I live, so i see a few of them infrequently. They're also a Saleen Dealer, had the "POLITE" one painted up like Barricade from the Transformers film.
  5. Bingo. More Dense Fuel = More Fuel In tank Although a lot of the benefit would be wiped out in the engine bay unless you could insulate the fuel lines from heat, keeping the fuel cool means you could fit more into the cylinders too. More Fuel in Cylinders = Higher Compression = More power.
  6. Hmmmm.... So you know how Cadbury sell the chocolate that didn't pass quality control for ridiculously cheap prices...... I'd be happy to pick up a VR38 that was a little down on power for cheap!
  7. You may have a loophole there (which would be closing VERY soon), but good luck finding any evidence to back up your story should you be stopped. Wish i had the money for a 370Z back when i was on my P's!
  8. What everyone has said is spot on pretty much. With your budget, the only real power mods you can do are exhaust and intake. I'd really recommend going on suspension and tyres first though, it'll feel like a whole new car. Then when you get some power mods, you'll get the most out of them. In reality the best way of getting power from NA skylines is a Four Step Process 1 - Unbolt RB25 2 - Sell RB25 3 - Bolt in VK45DE/VH41DE 4 - Drive Away Costly to do, but in terms of $/kw, it's the best value upgrade there is - no replacement for displacement!
  9. Madbung, you're right in that damage to the steel frame in a fire adds to repair costs, but you're wrong at the same time (if that makes sense). Yes it costs more to replace due to higher material costs (but they're only slightly higher as steel frames have taken off, the unit costs have dropped dramatically such that they are almost comparable with timber frame) but the temperatures with which steel starts to lose structural integrity are around 900-1500 degrees, by which stage your house is already beyond saving. And if you're really paranoid about fire damaging the structure there's treatments available which slow the rate of fire damage (it's called vermiculite, and insulates steel from fire. Usually used on larger buildings, but i don't see why you couldn't use it at home.) And buildings are designed such that they are overstrengthened - lose a member and the whole thing won't collapse, so it's simple to replace a few. (Civil Engineer FTW) I was with a few mates a couple of weeks ago (both builders) and they were arguing this very argument. Crux of it was, with experienced guys, you can build in steel in a few days what takes a month in timber. Which equates to far less cost in labour, so $$$ back in pocket.
  10. 237 is a very specific figure you've got there, I'm always wary when i read dyno reports of 298kw, 252kw - They usualy sound to me like the owner/tuner is chasing some magic target number, and so (not in all cases of course) the engine is probably running a knife edge tune to get every possible last little bit out of it. The crux of it is, i'd assume that they're totally different engines and that's your inherent difference. Why does an RB25 only have 35 more HP than an RB20, but about 50hp more than an RB30? You're comparing apples and oranges, S15's are much newer cars than R33's and as such i'd expect them to have better engine tech as standard (inc turbo).
  11. So I've finally decided that I'm getting a bike (I grew up down the road from a kawasaki dealership, so i've wanted a bike since i was 11), and in a few weeks will have the cash together to finally get one. Probably a CBR/ZX2R or something along that vein methinks. Anyone on here a) Ride, and/or b) Be able to recommend a good spot to get my safety gear from? I've gotten a couple of places to look, but anyone that have people experience to go by would be great!
  12. Late model 32 GTS's came with a 25 in it from the factory. And you'd be surprised the difference, given the weight of a 32, and the extra 80nm of Torque from the 25 over the 20. I'd be tempted to spend the extra coin and go for a manual NA supra, the 3L in it is still deceptively quick.
  13. A very valid point and one i hadn't thought of, but i'll stick to my guns here and maintain that what i said before is still a large factor in import targeting. You can't discount the power of public perception and media influence in governing a person's actions. Just as the officer on the clip suggests the release of FNF4 as a contributing factor to a spike in street racing (the effect of the media on drivers), the fortnightly ACA/TT stories on 'irresponsible hoons' (who are the dodgy builders that make our kids fat and the neighbour from hell who won't do anything about it) and experiences from their peers within VicPol is going to affect the way the public (which police officers are a part of too) think when they look at a car (media power over the police). If that perception was changed, then I think we would see a reduction in the amount of heat that imports attract. And i think that once pulled over, the way that the officer approaches the situation would be different too.
  14. Why are people so thick? Skylines attract attention yes. But to say "you knew that it was going to happen when you bought it, if you don't like it buy a magna" is just pig ignorant, and shares the mindset of that muzza L-Plater who was listing of all the charges against him with pride like each one was was a military medal of honour. You're correct, Imports are hoon cars in the eyes of the media. But they weren't always that way were they? It's drivers like this that gave them the reputation, and their continued pattern of behaviour remains to propogate the stereotype. But imagine, just for a second, that these idiots either a) realised what they are doing is illegal for a reason, or b) all died. What would happen to the 'hoon' stereotype with nobody to cultivate it? I'm not saying that we should become a society of granny drivers, but if people realised that the place for drags and burnouts and other car related stunts was the track, not the streets, then there'd be little reason for skylines to be treated any differently by TMU from any other car. It doesn't take much effort, just don't do dumb things and don't encourage it. Htial's example of leaving a meet when people started acting up was the best idea anyone's had in seven pages of debate. What's the reason you don't play with yourself in the middle of fed square? Because it's stigmatised as 'socially inappropriate'. If these morons peers make them realise that what they are doing is wrong, then eventually they won't want to do it. And eventually, 'import driving hoons' have no substance behind them anymore, in the same way that nobody curses the russians as 'dirty commies' anymore. And the we all get to drive our 6x10^8rwkw GTR's without any more heat from the police than we deserve.
  15. Dude, before anyone else points it out, James doesn't own a DB9 Volante, he has many cool toys. Check out http://www.supercarclub.com.au/ - it's his job :)
  16. And waste TAC resources that could have been put to better use supporting a victim of an accident, rather than someone who intentionally put themselves into harms way, and then cry for help when natural selection tries to take its course. And the idea for police sanctioned racing? Bigger holes than the Titanic. Even if you sign your life away, there's still a duty of care to be upheld by the event organisers, which would fall back on the police. The moment that an accident occurs, the ambulance chasers would be all over it - Why wasn't there a medical team on standby, why weren't ANDRA rules/guidelines enforced?, Why were spectators permitted free access to the 'track', Why was the road surface in such poor condition but racing allowed? To put it in simple terms, if you want to get into drag racing, join a drag club. They can be found at http://www.andra.com.au/. That way you're doing it safely, with the proper support networks in place, and you're insulated from being labeled a 'hoon'. If you're worried about being pulled over on the way to or from events, simple fix - don't drive an unroadworthy car, and don't do dumb things.
  17. If I had an owners manual for sure, but seeing as it came out of a conversation we had the other night, and she's not scheduled to take delivery of the car (and by extension, the aforementioned owners manual) for another week. I thought it might be a good idea to ask around here, figuring someone would have an idea on the answer.
  18. Good point funky, but my argument remains - if you watch a murder, but don't take part does that make it okay? If there wasn't a large spectator base, do you think that this would be as much of a problem? Sure, there are people who will do it regardless, but having a crowd to show off to increases the problem markedly. Look at it this way, of all the burnouts/street drifting that happens, i'd bet an infinitesimally small percentage of it is performed in areas with no-one around, with nobody else in the car. Chuck a few mates in, and suddenly there seems to be more point in doing it. Spectatorship is silent support for what is still a stupid and dangerous idea, which adds weight to the import driving hoon stereotype, and as a result we all end up under police scrutiny, for what a small segment of the import population are responsible for.
  19. If it's for work, forget about the Maloo. a mate of mine (a builder) had one for about 4 months, couldn't wait to get rid of it. Bottomed out on every site he went to, not enough tray space for all his tools, and all that power + no TCS/ESC scared him when it rained.
  20. Dude, the reason the imports cop a bum rap is exactly because of instances like these. You wouldn't be treated like a hoon by police if morons in the import segment didn't do stupid things like this, giving us all a bad name. While i'm not a member of the SAUV executive, i'd be quite comfortable in guessing that they don't want to be associated with events like this either. So if you want to be an outlaw, go join the bandidos.
  21. Most people are after the car, and the image, not necessarily the performance. Of the thousand of Skylines in the country, i'd hazard a guess that less than 10% of them actually touch a track. I know that's why i bought mine (an NA), because i like the car. Fastest you can legally go in Vic is 100kph (110 on one freeway), which my R33 can comfortably do, even though it's 'heavy'. It sounds like this bloke has his heart set on owning a skyline, so what's the diff? Why do mid life crisis sufferers buy ferrari's? So they can park them outside their favourite cafe and look cool, not to cut quick laptimes around Sandown.
  22. *ignites blowtorch* If you stand next to someone committing murder is it ok to be there 'just to watch'? Being there to watch is just as bad, as it gives credibility and support to these spanners. And due to his/her SAU membership, and displaying our sticker on his car, and by extension today/tonight it gives the impression that SAU endorses illegal street races, and tars all SAU members with the 'hoon' brush. and i'll pass on blowing a blowtorch, sounds kinda pornographic, i'll just use one instead.
  23. wow, so i read in the paper that after that bikie shot the backpacker in the CBD the rest of the Hells Angels caught up with him and burnt off his angels tatt with a blowtorch for bringing the club into disrepute. Sounds like someone's warming up the blowtorch here......
  24. Nowhere to go? Summernats, Winternats, Easternats, Sandown, Winton. There's six places off the top of my head. I now know why my insurance is so high. In other news, the officer they interviewed is one of the blokes from my surf club, hope he doesn't start hassling me over my car now!
