Just so you understand, at no time did I say it wasn't a supercar or it didn't handle, by waddling pig I mean it's weight and only it's weight. At fifty years of age and in real estate for a few years I have driven a few cars and owned a few, unfortunately I gave up spending money on the damned things when I realized you shouldn't buy something you can't afford to bend. However, as a road/targa weapon this is only the beginning for R35 GTR's. They are after all still relatively new. Full credit to winning Targa Tasmania. As a Nissan fan I have to say it is just too heavy and just too expensive and too complicated. I know I haven't driven one, I don't have to. As I said, "my opinion". But something I have noticed since they came out is the defensiveness you would find up on "The Mountain" (Mt. Panorama) if someone dares to HAVE an opinion. Up there I've seen knives pulled because someone said Brocky is a fag or my mates punching crap out of each other because one guy's 56' Chevy only beat the other guy's Monaro because it was a big block. Boyish stupidity. They are just cars after all. The reason I keep going on about weight is because I can guarantee next year the Lambo's will not take it laying down and come up with something lighter or more powerful. So, as in my first post, will Nissan come out with a lighter road/race version of the GTR ? Targa is now one of the top road rallies in the world, and Porche will also try a comeback.

Turbo Choices, Opinions, Prices Etc.
skylinecouple replied to Ehgriez's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The RB20 does like to rev, so I'd go with the 2535. Then again, your car comes in at 1,500kgs and a small high revving 2ltr engine would be annoying. I guess you have to decide, do you want instant boost for every day driving or maybe move the boost 500rpm up the rev range and go for the 2535. Either way I think the 2510 is going to leave you really breathless at the top end. Go the 2530 at least. I believe the RB25 turbo is good but only if wheels are replaced with something a little more robust. Then should be good for 190-210kws. -
Agreed ! And as I stated in my post the R34 at $50,000 then spend $350,000 on it which may well be the difference between the Lambo's and the 34'. And yes I know it wouldn't be aloud to race, but imagine. I also agree that the make of car doesn't seem all that important as driver experience. After so many years driving Targa these guys are memorizing the course a little better. There are some very talented drivers but only a few are in the running due to experience with Targa Tasmania. How in the hell do you explain a Mitsubishi shopping trolley keeping up with the Lambo's ? The GTR (and this is only my opinion I'm sure) is a big fat waddling pig that is competitive only because it is technologically better, and I really like GTR's, in fact, I am a died in the wool Nissan freak but let's face it, the Evo's dollar for dollar are the worlds best supercar. And yes I know the Lambo's are also big fat waddling cops.

Unless of course there are broken manifold studs which isn't going to be so easy.

Taking a front bar off is so simple. Get it done first so you can flush fit the cooler but not too flush as it will rattle against the front bar. Cooler pipes will be the harder to fix if it isn't done right so that's what you need to concentrate on.

Newer Garrett "gt2854r" Now Available .
skylinecouple replied to discopotato03's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just my thoughts but I couldn't think of a reason to spend so much on turbos that would really only be good for traffic light drags. Maybe hill-climbs or auto cross but as someone in my little group put it the other day, 300kws is the new 250. If a GTR isn't making at least 300kws these days and spooling almost as quickly as stock then you've wasted your money. Even RB 20's are good for 250kws and still be livable, no better make that 220kws for the RB20. Anyhow, you get my drift. You would be getting into the realm of very specialized use. Return for money spent wouldn't cut it. -
I think we have to go back to what he was competing against (T Quinn). Those Superlegovers are how much ? Now, to put it into perspective, Buy a GTR for $170 then spend the difference on it. OR, if it were me, buy an R34 for $50,000 and spend $350,000 on it. Trouble is, in that class of Targa they won't let you race it. Screw it, enter anyway. But ultimately,, buy an Austin A30 and spend $500,000 on it. What a weapon. Did anybody even notice the EVO's ? Now that's an efficient giant killer.

Don't know about the E-manage but as far as piggy backs go I had a Unichip for a few years on my R33 and I sometimes wish I still had that same setup. Factory response and fuel economy with all safety built ins for protection. Had 215rwkws tuned by Croydon. If your looking for a front pipe I have two to choose from. One made by me and the other is a Just Jap unit that simply bolts up to your old system. Make sure you get the cooler in first though.
-
I wonder how long it will be before we see a stripped out factory version of the R35 without the safety gremlins built in. Almost every other manufacturer including Nissan has made at some time a track special that can legally be registered on road. Does anybody know the entry weight of Quinn's car ?

Ash is just jealous cause he really wants a KKR turbo and he just knows deep down inside he ain't man enough. As we all know real men strap on a Chinese turbo assembled in Siberia by Immigrant Eskimo workers so they can watch it on the dyno with the're eyes squinting and teeth grinding, heart rate going through the roof with sweat dripping into the're multi-colored running shoes (also made by Eskimos) living on the edge every second. Yeah !! That's livin' baby, wooh whooo !! Actually, for the new price they are OK but personal choice would be to spend the money on a 2535 or better. Hey, if your patient someone on these forums will eventually sell there Garrett or Trust turbo.

Rocker Cover Screws Loose, Is This Normal?
skylinecouple replied to Cam84's topic in General Maintenance
Completely normal. Give them a tightening up but don't try to really tighten them, just firm is fine. -
I have the 3071 with .82 60mm turbine wheel and with a quiet restrictive exhaust it makes 264rwks. Is yours a .63 or the RB25 housing ? A Garrett housing should make 260 but I believe the smaller exhaust housings sometimes have boost control issues.

+1. Do a search. THE most common question, there is nothing wrong with the standard BOV.

The New Soft Brake Pedal Thread.
skylinecouple replied to Abo Bob's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Can anybody confirm the 350Z master fitting a Skyline ? Yes I know James said it was an S15 but perhaps it may fit a R33 Skyline ? I can get my hands on one and would agree with James that the ABS cars all seem a little soft. -
New-ish Gcg 3071 Based - Gtst Turbo
skylinecouple replied to simpletool's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just spoke to Luis at drift garage and he quoted $1,500 for installing 3076. Not bad considering he will do the lines, dump, intake. You just supply the turbo, flange, and spacer. That's $3,500 drive in drive out. $3,000 for a GCG kit ? I don't think so. Get a real man's turbo. It will put hairs on your chest. I actually speak with a deeper voice now with a bigger turbo. -
New-ish Gcg 3071 Based - Gtst Turbo
skylinecouple replied to simpletool's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
If they want you to pay $3,000 just buy the 3076 and shop around on these forums for someone to help put it all together. Since you will probably have to make an intake pipe as well there is equal amounts of work in both so go with the bigger turbo. -
PM sent. Cheap compared to others but don't need it, simple really. Was never impressed with it and probably not the best way to sell something but I am too honest for my own good. Would get GCG to back cut the turbine wheel or machine the turbine housing out for more flow. Alternatively, open up the wastegate for more flow. 220rwks is not much for 17lbs and I know it wasn't the compressor. Had it at 240rwks on the dyno but was only good for short bursts before the cooler couldn't do it's job.

Maybe like many others the original owner wanted to go further somewhere down the track. Hey, don't complain, get yourself an intercooler, computer or rewrite and go for it. Hey, don't tell anyone but I have a hi-flow for sale. Wink, wink.

New-ish Gcg 3071 Based - Gtst Turbo
skylinecouple replied to simpletool's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Mine was the genuine Garrett 60mm turbine wheel. Has been fantastic but seems to run out of puff at the top end. As for the GCG hi-flow I had, well, I'll will put it this way, I paid for MY turbo to be hi-flowed and stressed it had to make the claimed power. I spent the next three years and some complaints to GCG trying to get the bloody thing to do what was promised. Injectors, bell mouthed dump, biggest cat I could find, Tune after bloody tune by the best. And didn't I feel like an idiot when it finally dawned on me I'd been ripped off. Actually, it was Jim at CRD that told me not to waste my money but GCG insisted it would do the numbers. CRAP. I strongly suspect they gave me the turbine off an RB20 or something equally stupid. As Trent has alluded to, the best you can hope for is 260kws. That's if everything is perfect and they have machined the housing just right. Trouble is, you have paid for a turbo that has no more left in it. 260 is not that much. I used to think so before I had it, but now 300 is looking much better. Get a decent turbo and be done with it, 3076 .82. Daniel you have to understand that having low boost doesn't mean there is no power at low revs. I don't make full boost under 3,300-3,400rpm but it is already making more power than the hi-flow well before that. If drag racing is your thing then the power is even better as it is more progressive and doesn't light the tires at 2,700rpm. Mind you, I think to get someone to do everything for you the price may be $2,000 for turbo, $500 for extras, labour and then dump, then tune. -
Final Program Schedule For R34 Gt-r Cruise And Show N Shine
skylinecouple replied to mxfly's topic in New South Wales
OK, I'll take the R34. But do I take the wife or the girlfriend ? Hope the car wash is open early. I WILL need coffee ! -
The wife has Tein Super Streets and they are perfect for every day driving. Very comfortable but stiffer than my King standard lows with KYB shocks. I haven't heard anybody mention a good set of sway-bars, will give you the best of both worlds. My car has softer suspension with sway-bars set to medium on front and stiff on rear. Combined with urethane bushes and proper castor it is simply brilliant at wakefield or very comfy on the street. There is no body roll to think of and extremely predictable for sliding at speed. The wife's car only has the Teins and nothing else but almost as good as mine. We have adjusted her shocks where they are perfect for the spring rates on them. I can only imagine how good hers would be with my sway-bars and bushes.

New-ish Gcg 3071 Based - Gtst Turbo
skylinecouple replied to simpletool's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
The reason I went with the .82 housing is I have read everything in these forums over the last seven years and many forums overseas. I had the GCG hi-flow and was basically ripped off from day one. That turbo will not flow more than 220kws as the comp and turbine housings are just too small. Yours however will do much better. I believe the target you have set is realistic but with one small reserve from me, boost control. If the 71mm comp wheel flows more than the turbine housing and waste-gate can deal with then the turbine wheel will want to over-speed because the waste-gate cannot release enough exhaust. This is easily fixed as has been done by others by enlarging the waste-gate. But that's IF, you may be OK. If CRD say they have done many of these things then cool. Frankly I have no faith in work shops any more and do all my own work and research. As an aside, I believe the 3076 .82 housing is THE perfect turbo for the RB25 engine. Mind you I am happy with mine but would like more flow from the compressor with the added bonus of less boost needed. I know you will be happy with the outcome of your project and then of course, you'll want more. Hope you have injectors and puter to. -
Help... Few Problems With My 34
skylinecouple replied to androoh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Standard BOV. This is a well documented problem. Your computer is not able to think. It is preprogramed to work with the equipment it came with. Every time you back off the computer sees a lean out condition and throws in a bunch of fuel, this is the pop you are getting. I could be wrong as every car is different but one thing we all know is the standard R33-R34 will play up without the BOV plumbed back. -
New-ish Gcg 3071 Based - Gtst Turbo
skylinecouple replied to simpletool's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I have the 3071 with .82 housing and have maxed out the compressor at 264rwkw. Sure, there may be a couple of kilo watts in there still but that's pretty much all you'll get. The modified RB25 turbos are vastly overated and I only wish I could have all my money back over the three years I spent trying to get the 250-270 kws everybody said they are good for. They are crap. Not just me either as I have spoken to others that failed to hit more than 220-230. Daniel I hate to say it but I think your going to be so disappointed in that turbo as it is not much different to the standard turbo. Existance, your on the right track but you will realise that there may be issues with boost control with the .64 housing. If you can get them to open up the wastegate and install a bigger flap. That turbo should be ok for 260 but the turbine housing is the limiting factor. With the bigger wastegate it will flow more exhaust and be fully capable of maximum compressor flow.
