Your car does not technically have a chassis, it's a mono-coque shell design. The entire shell works as a chassis, that is why it's considered "modifying the chassis". You've cut a hole in a "crumple zone" thus lessening the integrity of the chassis (shell), Regardless of airbag or no airbag It should not be done.

Good thinking ... My phone has a handy txt function and a sound recorder...so do most phones. I know it's not a pen and paper but, seeing as I carry it on my person at all times would it be ok to use this handy little gadget instead?

Not so fast Phats! It has been a known fact for many years the drafting is very effective. MythBusters did a drafting exercise, car behind truck...I don't remember exactly the figures but the fuel saving was significant @ around 40% saved @ 50mph or some such shit.. Illegal, dangerous, fun = yes Recommended = no

Written off...geez, If that was an old Valiant or similar you'd get out the black texta, write "ouch" on it and keep driving. Damn mono-coque chassis/shells, they save weight but the can't take a 15kph tap. Don't forget....quality tyres before anything else, no point in having a nice car that won't turn in wet/greasy conditions.

Giddyup! Theres a huge difference between good and bad when it comes to wet weather traction. Never run cheap fronts...you'll always end up hitting a tree or something similar.

Yeah condolences and all.... Got a question for you. Why should this have never happened?? as you say......seems they did all they could to make it happen, not once but twice. Lessons learnt the hard way = 0, Seriously what does the govt have to do to get the message across? I do feel genuinely sorry for the family....but geez stupid is as stupid does!
