  1. yeh ive thought about that before, i enjoy driving my car around on the streets, although i do think its kind of pointless to modify ur car heaps if it just sees driving on the streets. but i dont see anything wrong in wanting a lightly modified import just for around the streets.
  2. so u would say 98% of ur friends had that same attitude? i gotta say, looking around at my mates a few years ago, most of my mates werent even that interested in cars or going fast, so i struggle to see how u could come up with such a high figure. but yeh, i think the conversation is getting away from the original topic.
  3. i never said they had to be a race driver, using the track was just an example. going to a few practice days to get a feel for ur car is a bit different to being a race car driver.
  4. it is, but if he takes out someone else in the crash then its not just an issue of him just putting his own life at risk.
  5. haha fair enough, was just trying to clear it up for anyone that read it and misunderstood what u said.
  6. assuming the aftermarket wheels have a larger centrebore to the nissan hub, have you got a hubcentric locator ring? probably already discussed but cbf reading through the whole thread.
  7. mm, i dont know how old u are, but im still young so it wasnt long ago that me and my mates were 17, definately a lot of people i know around my age i think are dangerous in cars, although i have to say, most of those guys havnt even stepped near an import, mostly either commies, or other cheaper cars and they arnt even close to what id call car enthusiasts, they didnt need power to turn those things in to death traps. most of my mates with imports id trust driving my car, some i have doubts about but most i trust enough with a car that i not only feel safe in their cars while driving, but to drive my own car. saying 98% of 17yr olds dont have the right attitude to drive a powerful car is something that id expect from a 50year old hoon hunter especially considering most of my mates dont even give a shit about cars and just use them to get from A to B.
  8. your the only one generalizing here mate, you were the one making the statement that you cannot have enough experience to be a safe and competent driver by the age of 17. i can understand ur point, but once again i think a lot of it is attitude, a more immature attitude of what they can do, fueled by lack of experience when they do decide to go push their car to the limit. once again, i think if you have the right attitude about driving, you can own a powerful import at no more risk that driving a little corolla or something even without much experience.
  9. yep, im not talking about racing experience here, im talking about getting a feel for ur car on the limit, getting car control skills, u do a few prac days and these things burn into ur subconscious which is what reacts each time something unexpected happens.
  10. yes, but its the attitude which determines how you get the experience. people can have experience but if they are over confident with their abilities then it will end in tears. a less experienced driver, but without the over confidence they will be less likely to push past their boundaries and risk crashing. i know a 21 year old who kept crashing his cars consecutively after each time he'd fix them, he had the experience, but his attitude meant he kept pushing past his abilities. experience is very important, but id say that attitude is just as important, you really need both to be a competent and safe driver.
  11. bah, both were down to setup issues (one which was a workshops fault) neither were from me pushing it hard btw.
  12. thing is, age doesnt always have to do with experience, i know plenty of young people that have either been in racing from a young age, or simply gone out to the track and practiced from a young age, learnt the limits of their car, got a grasp on car control, these people are a lot more competent then most import drivers on the road, even older ones. would it surprise u if someone around the age of 16-18 could more competently control a high power car than urself? not having a dig, but i think if ur going to generalize all young people as being unsafe incompetent drivers, then i think you need to be pretty confident that all 17 year olds are unsafe drivers.
  13. id say attitude is the key, not experience. as i mentioned, i stepped straight into a turbo car, i took it easy until i felt competent with the car, i didnt get in over my head too early and i didnt have any real issues. i didnt have much experience, but i think i had the right attitude.
  14. yes and no, the profile is relative to the tread width (245/45 = 45% of 245). the thing that affects the AWD system is overall rolling diametre difference between front and rear. for example the difference of the rolling diametre of a 225/45 and 245/45 is almost as much as the difference in rolling diametre as a 245/40 and 245/45. so basically the profile value is not the only thing u have to look for to determine 2 matching tyres for the front and rear.
  15. not sure how much of a tolerance there is with the ATESSA system, but if i was u id be sticking with the same profile. the difference between a 45 and 40 profile for a 245 is a bit over 10mm, so theres a fair difference.
  16. haha well according to the ns thread it was a honda CRV, not sure if they were serious or not
  17. yeh i kind of agree, i bought my car when i was 16, didnt have any real issues with it, but i think when i look at some of my mates, i can see why people would be hesitant to get their kid a fast car, and u just dont know what kind of a driver ur kid is going to be.
  18. something good on fuel, and has a good safety rating... ...
  19. quite a few people run these for drift and even for the road, especially in silvias, personally id go the teins any day of the week, ive heard good and bad things about tein, been in a few cars with them, driven one with them in, but never really been able to push the car so cant really comment on them besides what ive heard, but thats what id go with. personally for the road i cant understand why people are so worried about height adjustment, damper adjustment etc, but if thats what ur after then go for it i guess, they just seem unnecessarily hard for something thats intended to be used around the streets in built up areas.
  20. lol, why do u wanna go 15"? sorry cant really help u, although i did try fitting some GTS type S rims to my M-spec GTS-t, they fit over the disk, not the caliper obviously. not sure how much bigger the GTR disks are, but are u really interested in downgrading ur brakes so u can fit 15" wheels on?
  21. car will start being stripped down, sanded, bogged, flared and ready for a spray soon. being defected kind of helped this process a long by getting it off the road so i can do this stuff. hopefully its been through regency by the time, if not i might have to grab a permit for the day.
  22. sydney freight is cheap, depends if u want all 3 and the 4th barrel or just the 2, sending just 2 ull obviously save u some $$ as i said i can throw in tyres, ive got a few 255/45's, a pair of 235/45's with bad camber wear but good tread over the rest of the tyre. or i can do them for $800 with pretty much brand new 235/45 pirelli dragons (top of the range performance tyre) as my mate has a pair for sale. ill chuck u a PM and we can negotiate.
  23. Alright, i'm need of some cash for some mods etc, and have too many wheels at the moment, so have these up for sale. As far as tyres go i can organise pretty much any size tyre for these with decent tread for a bit extra, let me know what ur after and we can negotiate on price. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Item: Volk/Rays GT-P Wheels Incomplete set, see comments 17x9 +16 all round 5x114.3 Comments: Polished dish, Powdercoated black centres. 3 complete wheels, 1 wheel is missing the centre disk.
