  1. HOLY FREAKIN THREAD REVIVAL! I've just found these sitting around the apartment, they're still they're in one piece and still 'new'. Looks like two are selling to a US buyer (??), so if anyone else needs Works Equips centre caps (they are popular wheels and the centres often go missing...) then shoot me a PM. Cheers, Jez
  2. mate you should PM NoFX_Hardcore - he's looking for a 6spd V35 to trade with his GTR - could be a marriage made in heaven............

  4. I'm not so sure on this personally. I was thinking of taking the missus and I over for a 12-month sabbatical (in which case we could private import TWO cars), but I've looked into this in some detail, to find; * To my knowledge, despite an FTA between Aus and US, we still pay duty on car imports from the U.S * (and here's the big one) customs will actually assess your taxes and duties based on your ORIGINAL purchase price, not on a 'depreciated asset' price at the time of import. * As you still need to convert it to RHD, whilst you can avoid RAWS loopholes, try finding a reputable workshop who can do a quality mirror conversion. My quote.....$30K (that's right, only saving $5-10K on normal RAWS price). * In the first several months, everyone is expecting these things to fetch way over sticker (MSRD) price. I think MSRD is set at $103K USD, so dealers are being tipped to get as high as $115K, at least for the first 18 months whilst they have pent up demand and oversupply has not taken effect. * Lastly, there are as many FOREX 'experts' tipping downside risk to the AUD/USD exchange rate as upside. What this means is, if you went stateside and paid $125K USD drive away for such a beast (and I don't think you can just store the thing, I am told DOTARS do some pretty significant research to verify you've been domiciled continuously for 12 months in the U.S), by the time you imported it, you're up for $130K AUD, plus container shipping, plus 10% duty (??), plus GST, plus LCT over and above $57K, plus $30K mirror conversion and on and on - likely to be a $230K AUD import. By this time, you'd probably be better off just importing straight from the states, because the $5K or so you save by skipping RAWS would be blown away firstly by depreciation, secondly by opportunity cost (whatever else you could have invested in), and thirdly by the 'unforgiving' customs charges as they would be based on your original purchase price. For my money, you'd be much much better off buying a Z06 (Lingenfelter or Hennessy mod job even better!), which are now common as ar*eholes over there, whereby you can probably get a good Cali or AZ model for circa $60K and - because you have less exposure to LCT, would end up costing more in the range of $125K AUD. In fact, by the time you had your ZR1 here, I reckon you'd have the Z06 down to $110K. Still, because of the issue around taxes being based on transaction price, it is actually fraught with risk for any depreciating vehicle. Given this, we're now tending towards something which may not even be a RAWS vehicle at all - have the market all to one's self. Stretch Hummer anyone? But back on topic......this is a ridiculously mad car and frankly, I can't wait to take one for a spin (lol).....(dreams of turning up at a dealership in 90210 dressed in Mick Dundee cork swagger hat....looks to Z06....'that's not a sportscar'......looks to ZR1....'now that's a sportscar'. I'll probably just end up getting mugged and being left destitute on the west saeeed). BTW - if I have my info incorrect, I would appreciate the advice, as I am looking to depart in Feb next year!
  5. interested....can you tell me the pros and cons of a Legnum versus a Stagea? I don't mean 'one has twin turbo' etc - but what this really means (output, specs, fuel economy, parts back up, handling, etc). Can't find much in the way of comparisons anywhere - wanting to know your thoughts... cheers, Jez
  6. Hi Anthony, On the basis that nobody in their right mind would send a car down to tassie (where there are no RAWS workshops) BEFORE the car is complied, only to have to return it back to Melbourne to get the car complied, and return to Tassie again, am I right to assume it has failed compliance, and can therefore never be registered? Not trying to rain on your parade, just trying to ascertain the relevant details which are (or should be) of interest to all. If this has been imported under SEVS, it will have been imported via an accredited workshop. Will they be prepared to guarantee that car can be complied? If it did fail RAWS, would be worth mentioning on what grounds.... As it stands, it's a fair asking price nevertheless for a 97 GTST. If it is GTST. Parts will go quickly I'd imagine. 'free bump'.
  7. hi mate - has this been successfully complied to Aus standards? previously registered? 25DET?
  8. it's not much fun being me - poor dumb mongol bast*rd that I am OK - rear coilovers they are (the ones with the square ends...)
  9. no 'guarantees' no - not because I am dodgy, but because I think you'd find anyone (other than a business selling a brand new item) will be loathe to 'guarantee' an item. I can so far as to say that the rear wheel (which is not one of these two) was badly buckled, but the front wheels (which are these ones) appear to be nothing more than very noticeable gutter rash. very ugly - but tyres excellent, and wheels look to be fine. I have the option to import another set of rears from japan then machine the set as new, but frankly, this is too much hard work for such a little amount of cash. I reckon they're great value for what they are - perhaps if you can figure out a way to check if they are buckled? I know they roll in a straight line.....
  10. sheesh...price drop again to $170, plus $30 freight anywhere. Have to move next weekend, if not gone by then I'll probably have to turf them...
  11. Hey mate - what's your budget?
  12. Hi Guys, I realise this is more 'compliance' than 'importing' but I guess most on this part of the forum will know the answers. I'm pretty sure that I have this right, but if someone with better knowledge could confirm, would be much appreciated; 1) Tyres - assumedly MUST be a new set of DOT approved tyres each time, rather than simply using the 'almost new' tyres you used last time? If they must be new, can the 'customer' (not the workshop) supply these...with invoice....to avoid being 'gouged' on tyre prices (most recent example I saw....workshop charged twice retail price available elsewhere) 2) Brakes - assumedly do NOT need to be changed, unless they are deemed to be undersize? I assume this because most importers websites I see mention compliance plus GST plus tyres but do not seem to mention brakes. However my mate just complied two cars through a Brissie workshop, and was hit up for front and rear pads on both cars. As above, can the customer source these? Cheers, Jez
  13. Hey mate - not sure on weight, have been told 19lbs but I have no way to confirm this. Tried on the Rays website but could not find the specs... Cheers, jez
  14. Taken off my 1990 GTR - won't find cheaper anywhere. Add $50 for freight.
  15. Hi Guys, Have a pair near new Nexen 235/45/18 tyres, with 18 x 9" (+35 to 40 offset) Volk F1 Challenge rims tyres are worth almost $400 alone, and if you search SAU for what Challenge rims normally fetch, you'll see that between the rims and the tyres these are cheap as. Wheels have pretty bad gutter rash, but are machinable. At this price, I'm pretty much giving the rims away anyway, so think of it as near new tread with some wheels thrown in.... Pick up Bris CBD only. Freight would be an extra $100.
  16. Thanks DMac - can someone confirm, as I'm a bit of a mongol when it comes to suspension (and anything mechanical....) Are the shockers with the 'square ends' the ones that go in the rear, or are the shockers with the 'round ends' the ones that go in the rear. It seems I may have front and rear confused (only with shockers, peoples) J
  17. Hi Guys and Gals, Wasn't sure whether to put this post here or in items for sale, but it does seem relevant to this area of the forum....so.... About 8 months ago I picked up some dumbells when a uni gym upgraded their stock to newer rubberised dumbells. I bought most of what they had, which includes pairs of the following; 1kg, 3kg, 4kg, 5kg, 7.5kg, 10kg, 12.5kg, 15kg (all of these are 'single piece casts up to this weight), 25kg, 27.5kg, 30kg, 37.5kg (these four pairs use 5kgs discs on either side, like conventional dumbells). All up, this is 12 pairs of dumbells, for 356kg / 783lbs. This is a fair whack of weight for most people (not all I admit). I compared this to a set on Ebay (admittely these are new, rubberised and come with a rack), but the set on Ebay was only 10 pairs of 605lbs total, asking price $1300. That's over $2 per lb. My set is 12 pairs, totalling 783lbs, and I'm asking just under 60c per lb, at $450 the lot. It's not likely anyone in the Bris or GC area (or anywhere else for that matter) will find gym quality, properly incremented dumbells of this much weight for this price. If interested, drop me a PM, and I can send photos (not much to look at). My reason for selling - moving to a new CBD apartment that has dumbells up to 45kg already, so these are 'surplus to requirements'. Items are located in CBD, and pick up essential. Unless you want to pay about $350 for freight. Cheers, Jez
