Speaking of RCS, here's the blurb from their entry in the job market site at the uni I study at/work for:
-
I'm in two minds about who to go with... Nova seems good from a personal support point of view, but RCS seems good because you get a company car (kei car that I wouldn't be able to fit, no doubt ) and they help you find an apartment. I prefer to live alone, and the company car would make things much sweeter... but Nova's support would be hard to say no to. Edit: RCS is in 'Kanto' wherever that is. I suspect 'The Sticks'.

Hmmmm... perhaps a week in a hotel is a good idea for moi then... or finding my local SAU member and asking where the good areas are.
-
Yup, the family of the dead guy are wailing and crying on the national news and saying "he was such a good boy!" and other drivel... sorry, but your good boy almost killed a 42 year old woman. http://www.news.com.au - probably still a story on there about it. Apparently she can't remember killing him, she just went into instinct mode, pulled her firearm and holed him. Got everything he deserved, imho. Well, at the moment I"m waiting to hear on a redundancy heading my way... if that happens, going to finish my last 4 uni subjects, which will take me up to june next year, just in time for the english teacher recruiters. I'm a little nervy about it, because it'll be a big change in life. For the last 6-7 years, I've been working in IT, working, sleeping, occasionally studying, wasting money on cars (!)... will probably sell the ScibyLine if/when I move over... then buy something that I can bring back, like an R33 GTR or something... or something somewhat unique... will see what's available when I get there.

Hi Fitzy, it's already been done before. Nismoboy stated before that his Silvia has a twin turbo RB25 in it...
-
On the other hand... maybe there'll be some kawaii girls who like big gaijin. It's a shame there's crime at all... must be western influence on younger generation... I mean you always had the Yakuza, etc... but from all reports they weren't/arent' as... animal... as some of the people we have in australia. Did you guys here about the guy who tried to rob the security guard here last week? 25 year old went at a 42 year old woman with a RSL/local pub's pokies takings with knuckledusters... she's blind in one eye, fractured skull/eyesocket, etc... she shot him, and now the family of the dead guy wants revenge. Just crazy. But anyway, yes, japan. I can't wait to go. Even a bit of crime won't spoil it for me. As long as there are vending machines with drinks and food I've never seen, weird engrish everywhere, and R33 GTR's that cost $20k aud and can come back with me under personal import... then I'm perfectly happy. Speaking of which, was doing somework in the car today, found some wadded up paper in the dash, turned out to be an Autobac's small shopping bag.

Kerist... I'm 6'3" and 110kg, people might be frightened of me. :jk: Hmmmm... I thought (mistakenly it seems) that japan was fairly mild for crime, that it was safe to walk the streets at night, etc.
-
Same here... first ride in a skyline was when I picked up mine from the compliancers... a bit of a leap of faith buying one without driving it, but I got in it, set off the new alarm twice, got it started, bunnyhopped out of the driveway, following the complaincer's car (he was leading me to Main Roads), got to T intersection on a dual carriage way, eased it on, turned wheel right, went to about 70% throttle, suddenly realizing I was no longer in my Vitara and the howling noise and smoke and watching where we were going out of the left passenger window... a brave new world. Actually, that's my first 33 drive. My bad. My first *EVER* skyline drive was an NA 2.5L R32. Was nice, but bank hadn't given me the cash yet. Sold to some guy who's on these forums somewhere. i think he's hurt the poor thing badly, from all reports.
-
Right, cross off Osaka's crime areas then.... are there any truly horrible places to avoid in Japan to live? At the moment, I'm pretty much ready to live anywhere, because it's all Japan. Streeter, what kind of crime is it there? Anything and everything? Dangerous to walk the streets at night?

Geez, someone's a bit touchy. You have several people giving you helpful advice, in case you were about to blow a lot of money, and playing devil's advocate so you could look at it objectively, instead of going "WOW, TW!n TURB0S!! L33T! MUST HAVE! EVERYONE IS WRONG EXCEPT FOR ME AND MY DREAM! LOLZ!!!1!! KTHXBI" and blowing a wad of cash on something that could be done more effectively and safely and mildly more cheaply. Yes, GTS owners (me included) have the 'Little brother of GTR' stigma to combat when we're trying to build a car that is capable and quick in it's own right, but you have to balance things up. Do you want to spend all that money just to have two turbos? Most GTR's go to a big single anyway after they've gotten what they can out of the twin setup. Like I said before, I totally understand the want/need to have a unique(ish) car, to make your baby stand out from the crowd, but you don't cut off your nose to spite your face.

help clear a defect - new tyres in melb
Sciby replied to paulr33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I'm up for some new rear tires soon... the crappy cheap old Nankangs are having trouble with grip, so time to get something that will grip and hard. Let us know how you get on. -
Well, maybe Code Blue will go ahead, and show us how expensive it really is.
-
pred: What? You mean all RB26's don't come from grandma's cars with pink ribbons around them?
-
Don't need a PFC for the RB26, the 26 stock ECU is fine, because you're only changing mechanical devices: turbos and cams. You'll need some aftermarket help for the RB25 because it's stocker has no idea about having two turbos. The RB26 440ccinjectors should be fine, and apparently they have a bit more headroom at higher PSI levels, you might need a new fuel pump, so what's that? $400? They're hardly apples and oranges, if you can't see that, you've got rocks in your head, but hey, it's your money, you do what you want. Good luck with it, hope it doesn't bite you in the arse... but I have a feeling it will.
-
Geoff, how painful is the manifold side of things? Is it simply a case of slicing off the flanges and then getting them rewelded to match up the 25 head, or is it more complex than that?
-
I don't think you're thinking this through clearly. Yes, an engine transplant is expensive, but doing a non-factory, semi-custom twin turbo set up is going to be just as expensive. You can't just slap it all together, install an 'Apexi' (not sure what you're referring to there, I assume a PowerFC) and 'go sick'. A proper rebuild is going to cost you at a very, cost cutting minimum of $2k (parts and labour), then $3k for the for the twin turbo kit, easily $1k for the installation and screwing about on that if you don't do it yourself which I'd advise against, then $1k for a Power FC, $750 (roughly) for an decent EBC, $1k for bigger injectors, $400 for a bigger fuel pump, then at least $500 for a decent tune, both for the PFC and the EBC. We're up to $10k already and you're still 100cc less than an RB26, which does make a difference. An RB26 doesn't need the rebuild because the internals will handle up to 350-400rwkw from all reports, it doesn't need the labour of the rebuild, it comes with solid lifters, 440 injecters, fairly lumpy cams, an extra 100cc of capacity, all for roughly $6k, and that price generally includes the stock ECU and loom, if not afm's and and piping. A set of more aggresive cams would cost you roughly $1k for a set of bolt in Tomei's, and $1.5k for a set of better turbos. Installation would be roughly $1k, so $9.5k there. I'm sure you're saying "$500, so what?" but the thing is, the $9.5k will be just that. there won't be any hidden problems like finding out the manifold you got hasn't be welded properly because it's a 'custom' job, or that extra injector controller and injectors is set up dangerously, or whoever you get to do it has to take an extra amount of time because the sellers didn't say that he'd have to **** about with X, Y and Z. A car recieving an RB26 does not need to be heavily modified because it's a factory spec engine. Nissan have done the hard work for you, you almost literally give it a dust off, set the loom and ecu in the correct places and put it in. I know you like this idea Code Blue, and if you're determined, nothing we say will stop you from doing it, but listen to Nismo_Boy, because he's done what you want to do.

A cheap internal upgrade (again, something I've consdered) is the ol' rb26 crank, rods and pistons upgrade into an RB25 block... should be able to handle things happily.

Im so Confused - Suspension
Sciby replied to OOHSAM's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
1. Contact King Springs and ask them how much height change there will be with the different springs. I'm not sure what it'll be for your S14A, but for an R33, the Lows give a 30mm drop, afaik. 2. Spring determines height of car. The shock is there to make sure the spring behaves itself over bumps, etc. Remember, the lower/shorter the spring, the higher rate it will be to avoid driving the wheels up through the guards on bumps, so less travel and harder ride. Good dampening will help with that, but can only do so much with the small amount of travel it'll have. 3. Depends on your definition on 'schmick'. Ultralow (scrubbing tops of tires) can sometimes look rather shite. Depends on the car though. 4. Yup, adjustable camber kit is what you want. 5. Because if it was easy, everyone would do it. The problem with suspension is that there's so many variables and so many governing factors and so many parts that make a profound effect on the handling and ride of the car in question. -
Stock internals will deal with 300+rwkw in an Rb26, so the rumours go, but you'll need A/M turbos... maybe cams. An RB25 will not deal well with 300rwkw... you're on the edge of things flying out the side of the block. Best to rebuild it, which is your first extra cost. Personally, I think the RB25DETT deal sounds too good to be true. What about the hidden costs? It doesn't include AFM, and if you're wanting to use the stocker with twin turbos, that's silly, it'll be a huge restriction. If they have it set up without AFM's, and you don't have a MAP'ing ECU, you're up for more cost. On the topic of ecus, if you do use the stock afm, about the stock ECU? Will it cope with two turbos? What about boost control? What about oil and water points off the block for the second turbo? The sale says it's got piping to the pod filter, you're going to want two filters with two intake pipes, to feed the turbos properly, etc etc etc... All these little things will have to be addressed and may (read: will) cost you more than you expected... Don't get me wrong, I'm all for going nuts on the car (I'm in the market for a new turbo myself), and I've looked at and priced up the twin turbo path for my rb25 before, and it's a great idea, but it's definitely not a cheap exercise, ebay item or not. Lots of little things that have to be taken into account. It may end up costing you just as much as an RB26 transplant. It'd be unique, but a waste of time and effort, imho. Just be VERY careful and do your homework before you jump into it. Question everything they tell you, and you hopefully won't get burnt.

Damn you and your logic. *takes photos of S-AFC to sell and prices some FC's*

Sky30: It depends on who you listen to. From my understanding, after fitting the flywheel the following is true: - Torque will decrease, thanks to less inertia , due to less mass on the moving flywheel. - The engine will rev faster, thus generating exhaust gas more quickly, thus spooling up the turbo faster. (This is faster in time, not faster as in lower rpm point) Unknown exactly how faster it'll rev... depends on load and enviroment, etc.
-
Tony, what's the go with the S-AFC? Is it truly horrible at controlling the injectors, or is it because it's fooling the stock computer into playing well with the larger 'jectors, as opposed to an AM ECU that can knows about the larger injectors from the outset?

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeet... :spcartman:

http://www.teachinjapan.com/ Nova apparently will take your preferences into account and try to get you close to where you want, if a position is available. I want to live... er... everywhere. I'd like to try a bit of everything... maybe two years, one in the boonies, one in tokyo.
