  1. Replaced my front springs today, was a bitch of a job... a few points/observations. - Spring compressors take forever to tighten. God I hate them. - On the top mounts, there'll be an R or an L with an arrow, that idicates the direction the lower bolt should go/come from. I learnt this after I had already forced one back on. - Take your time, read instructions that come with your springs. After I put the fronts back in, I found a piece of paper in the springs box that said "Ensure you put the drivers spring in the drivers side and the passenger spring in the passengers side." Never have I wanted to cry so bitterly. - Definitely DEFINITELY use car stands. Buy good ones. That $10 you save by buyiing shitty tin stands will not cover your medical expenses when the car crushes them and your head. Buy ones that can handle twice the car's weight by yoruself and then you know you're at least partway safe. - It's a buggering job to do by yourself. I'm sure the rears will be action packed as well. *choked sob* I do have a bit of a worry now. Everything's secure, but when the front left extends, there's a bit of a thumping noise. Tres strange.
  2. Yup, hit me with it, SK. These are King springs, lows, which I just got today. $250 for the 4, brand new from Repco, ordered yesterday. Most happy. Replacing shitarse Pedders SportsRyder... which are saggy, imho. Fronts: KDFL-101 ID Upper: 96mm Lower: 85mm. WD: 12mm # Coils: 7.1 Rears: KDRL-61SP ID Upper: 100mm Lower: 90mm. WD: 13mm. # Coils 9. Will put up the specs for the pedders when they come out tomorrow. Edit: Tried that american calculator - roughly converted to inches, and got 244lb for the fronts and 164lb rears... which seems a little strange to me. Most setups have lower spring rate in the rear, but 80lb is a third of the fronts spring rate. Oh well, shall take SK's calcs as canon, rather than my dodgy guesstimating.
  3. Woo, #2 on the list.
  4. Gr333dy: Interested.
  5. Don't ever take the old "pushing down on the bonnet" test as useful information. A 100kg person pushing down, compared to a 1500kg car rolling its weight forward onto the front suspension = apples and oranges. I've been in cars where you can push down, and it doesn't move, yet it has a nice gentle ride.
  6. I do indeed realise that, but the fees are the financial equivalent of dropping soap in prison.
  7. Hi there, Great price, so of course, my "that can't be right" buzzer is going off, but that's to be expected. Two questions: 1. On the Type 2 kit for the R33 GTS, is the 600x300x75 of the actual intercooler itself, or does that include the end tanks as well? 2. Do you take credit card?
  8. Aaaaaaah poopie. This will learn me to visit the forums more often. Also a shame that you don't take credit card. Even a further shame I haven't got the cash... oh well.
  9. Nah, he said $110 for each set, meaning $220 all up... but maybe its more the truth, considering you feel that $440 would be too expensive. I gave the Repco on the other side of town a call, they said $161 for the fronts, and the rears weren't in their catalogue.
  10. Wow, I never noticed that long, rambling, spit-flying rant from Scarifier. At least he's passionate, I guess.
  11. I'm on this path too, already have the Bilsteins installed, although they've been working too hard with the shit springs, so I suspect they'll need a service soon... I just rang Repco for a quote on King Springs low's, and they said $220 for front AND back springs, with $10 freight... that sounds... wrong. Anyone confirm or deny that pricing?
  12. If they wanted to be pedantic, an exhaust change is an engine performance modication (yes, it changes it slightly), so they pull you over for that, then look under the bonnet... that shiny exhaust may undo some people. ... and don't think for a second that a cop doesn't know what to look for. All they need is an afternoon with the mechanics and they'll be set.
  13. It's all down to the age thing, guys... insurance companies live and die by it. Look at me... I've lost my licence once, had a fair share of speeding tickets, and a few accidents... but I'm rating 1 and I'm paying $607 full comp through Suncorp-Metway. On the other hand, I got a quote from Just Cars... $1400... so while it's cheaper than some of the quotes above, owning a performance car will always attract a higher quote as well.
  14. Kids... always a pain in the arse (literally in this case), but then some can come through and (metaphorically) touch you.
  15. Erm, wherever you don't want the oil to be. (Ie, don't spray it in the engine... the degreaser is for cleaning up)
  16. Hi guys, I've tried adjusting my headlights to get the right position, and I think I've adjustd them too far: one sits too low and cannot be wound back up. I suspect it's run out of thread on the wormscrew or whatever the mechanism is. Anyone know if there's any special way to get them back centred and responding to the mechanisms again... or is this a case of me pulling the pods apart (god help me), or buying new ones? God help me again. Any help, gratefully appreciated, yadda yadda. cheers Sciby.
  17. Mmmmmm... parsley doob.... hardcore! (cant' touch the real thing anymore... giggle for a while, get far too paranoid, then eat small countries)
  18. Well, no is 'ownership, as in 'brisbane in queensland' is 'queensland no brisbane', and is apparently useable for 'sub-thingies', like different areas of engineering... but... I could be wrong. It's been a while since I opened my jap books. I think you've said "what is (an) engineer?" Ah, so desu... Computer engineer! Anata wa joozu desu yo!
  19. Ohayo Kuraigu desu, hajimemashita... watashi mo skyrine daisuki desu yo! Engineer no nani desu ka? (think that's slightly off, supposed to be "what kind of engineer?"
  20. I'm sure there will be heaps of interest - it'll be for performance/enthusiast drivers, by performance/enthusiast drivers, and I wish you the best of luck. As you said, you're targetting the highest risk groups, that means you're going to do more payouts than the average insurance company... so (like you sa you're going to have to have solid pricing to cover that, and to have a *large* amount of capital to start with, to cover any claims that happen straight away (and Murphy's Law says they will ). Also, you're going to have to remain compeditive with the other companies who *do* cover young/high risk drivers, which may bring its own problems. Hopefull you and your grandpa have/will have ideas to overcome these issues... being underwritten by a bank is the first step, I guess (Not an insurance guy, going on personal knowledge), and then just research the pricing of the others. Hopefully you won't have to price yourself too high... as we know, young people will go with lower pricing than loyalty 9 times out of 10. Either way, good luck with it, hope it works out.
  21. Rezz always looked a lil' baked... he's just a happy guy.
  22. I drink a buttload of Oz coke, so someone in Nihon, send me some jap coke. I'll do a blindfolded taste test.
  23. Well, yeah... Japan is a product company's playground because they're such hyper-consumers... candy/snack food is a great example: they have a 3 month cycle (apparently), so they find out what works or is liked and what doesn't... then they're off to remake/redesign and then try again for another 3 months... of course, stuff like the PSP doesn't have such an aggresive cycle, but still... Basically, if something is successful in japan, it'll do well everywhere else. Except for bukkake.
