didn't even think of that! could be one of the reasons! i was also thinking, maybe its the coil packs in the early stages of dying? i have had them for a long time and since they changed the spark plugs, they are making the coil packs work a lot harder and it only happend at constant high revs when the car had warmed up. hmmm.

Hey Guys, just got my car (r33 gts-t) recently serviced from a different service place to my normal place and they have done a pretty shitty job! anyways, i got the car back home and then it wouldnt start once it got warm and i could smell electrical wire burning, once i opend the bonnet, i saw what the issue was, the wire harness the connects to the oxygen sensor on the downpipe had come off a table tie and was sitting on top of the turbo and it had melted it nicey all the way through, anyway i called the service people, they came down and swapped the plug over, (however not an original R33 wire clip) and it all seems fine etc So today was the first day i took it for a proper spin and it was all good until i hit the freeway, i was driving along fine for around 10 mins then and accelerated to around 120 and i felt like the engine just died and dropped power and even though i was holding onto throttle, the power was dropping, the strange thing was there was no stuttering or missing(which you would get with coil packs/spark plug issues) it just felt like i lifted off the power but i was still accelerating. it was really strange. I took the next exit and it was running fine after that, and was reving without any problems. This has never happend before and i was wondering what the issue could be? could be be related to a dodgy job on the repalcement oxy sensor? The service guys changed the spark plugs could this be a issue? i am a bit lost what the service guys changed engine oil transmission oil (car is auto) spark plugs (platinum) most of the blets like fan belt etc sorry about the long write up, but all feedback much appreciated so i can get to the bottom of it thanks guys, Din

thanks for the reply mate, but no where near that kinda money, i hardly drive this car now, so looking to spend under $800, as i said im not too fussed about the brand etc as long as its in good nick.
-
hey guys! after some Shocks and Springs front and rear, Not fussed with Brands as long as they are in excellent condition, prefer non standard shocks as most will now be over 10 yrs old! cheers, Din.

just on that also, i work in the insurance industry and it doesn't quiet work like that, while the value of the car is a factor its not the end and be all of everything. Its mainly based on the 1. Car type 2. Risk of the driver 3. Location. 5K on a fully kitted Audi S5 is a bit much, but 5K on a GTR with a fairly young driver (under 35) is actually not too bad, depending on what kind of cover your getting. You will find that there will be a lot more claims being made on a R35 than on a S5, thus this will drive the premiums up. I don't know what kind of car the 850K is, but chances are its prob not a daily driver, where as many pplz will use a GTR as a dialy driver (which is one of its selling points) so thus the risk of the vehicle having a accident is a lot higher, and will drive premiums.

just read the whole thread! wow...1st time i've been here in ages and now i remember why i hardly go on, a bloke asks a simple question and all the internet warriors come out with their high and mighty stance, ye sure its not a great look to lose your license 3 times in 5 yrs, but it can happen. Maybe we should give him suggestions about what his options might be instead of burning him on a stake. FYI: had my R33 since i was 18 in Victoria, im 27 now 200.000+ clicks done on the car all around victoria, never have lost a point or have had any hassles by the cops, but last month got done twice by a mobile speed camera on a Sunday morning on a perfectly straight empty road for being 7 km's over the speed limit. so it does happen.

nice car man! if i had the money when i was buying my R33 (6 yrs ago) i would have bought one but at that time it was like 30K+ for a 40th anni model in that colour. that midnight purple (if thats the colour) is also my fav skylines colour of all time too! as for car being auto despite what some others have said above, take it from a auto r33 owner of nearly 7 yrs that its not hugely different to a manual performance wise. Infact, daily driving and straight line performance imo, i rekon its a better car. the manual only really comes into its own in the track and also great for big power mods. the only issues with the auto that i have found have been going through more break pads than manuals, cos u use breaks more to slow down and also getting a decent stand alone ecu to work with it. but at the same time, no need to replace clutches and i got a SAFC2 at the moment with a light tune and its running fine. just make sure u get a bigger tranny cooler and maybe not thrash the shit out of it it on 35 degree days and just do regular servicing and it wont let you down. ive done over 140,000 km's on the auto with around 190kws RWKW, (while not massive numbers) its still a daily driver and havnt had a single thing gone wrong. so your in good hands

hmmm yes and no, i know that on top gear JC did say that the cayman could possibly be a better car than the 911 if they gave it more power, and thats prob true and i guess the caymen is made to get more sales for the company, but its not the hero car. I think something like a GT3 RS or a Carrera GT for example would be built to the best of their abilities because they are cars that you could take straight from the showroom to the track and they would be competing against other makes such as BMW (M models) / Audi (RS models) in the GT3's case and Ferrari and Lambo's in the Carrera GT's case.
-
oh nice! thanks for the reply! graphs and all!
-
just a correction, 50 kw's less than the 911 turbo but 90kw's less than GT2. still, 305 kw's from a N/A (thats not a v8 or more) is impressive!
-
Hey guys, was bored the other day and was looking at the R35 GTR specs and the GT2 specs etc...and i have always wanted to know....how the hell does the Porsche GT3 get 305 kw's out of a flat 6?? from what i could understand its the same basic engine as the GT2 but less 2 turbo's, yet still manage 'only' 50 less kw's at the engine? i find it quite extrodinary!
-
oh and also your garage is nuts!!
-
great work man! loving the pics!! any mor epics of that gloss/matte black GTR? it looks crazy!! imho best 1st post in a while!

is it school holidays already? Lets look at this argument...so the new R35 have had one (or a few) Tranny faliures...who cares? it could be due to million different reasons...it could be due to abuse...or a fault in the materials or assembley of that particular transmission or (batch of tranny's)...you gotta remember that this is the 1st series of R35's...im sure they will have more problems...its never going to be 100% perfect. If Nissan isnt going to cover it, because they believe it was the driver that abused it then i think thats fair enough! why? cos the DSG garboxes has its pro's and cons, ye they will shift faster than what you can do manually, but you cant abuse it every chance you get, because its not cheap to replace like a tradtional manual, if you want to abuse the shit out of it, dont buy a R35! buy a R34 GTR, tune it to 350 odd k/w's and even if u fry the clutch its not that expensive to replace! Also like to add that people think that the R35 is the greatest car in the universe, its a amazing machine, dont get me wrong and i love it, and would love to drive (or own one one day) and while nissan says its a 'everyday' supercar, i think the point here is that you cant abuse the shit out of it everyday as you would with a R32 or something like that, its not made to do that. I think there is a massive different between a car that doesnt break down on you even if you drive it on the w/e (like a lot of the euro supercars) and a car you can abuse the shit out of and it will be fine, it does have its limits im sure (and im sure these limits are outlined in the warrenty). The R35 Is a amazing car, possibly the best bang for your buck? it can keep pace with cars that are 5 times its price tag, it looks to be a great daily driver and occational track car - but its not immune to faliures etc like every other car.
