Bah thats a load of shit, a stock TT turbo is a KKK04 - good for a max of ~270 flywheel hp (and thats being generous). Running maybe 25psi. The problem then is its WAY out of its efficency range and makes your intake temps skyrocket. Still $450 for a K04 is a good price, it just wont boost to 35psi efficiently and reliably.

URGENT! Need INSURANCE Help!!
Mighty Highlights replied to reignman82's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Talk about wanting your cake and eating it too. Buying a house, GTR and studying. And wants cheap insurance. If you can buy a house and a GTR whilst at uni, then what is the problem with 3.5k insurance?? Think about this - if its in your dads name and your are down as an occasional driver e.g. 5% of then time. In the event of an accident if the insurance company can prove that you drove it all the time, then I believe they have grounds to reject the claim. Do it properly or dont do it at all. You could just get a GTS-T - with cheaper cost and insurance. -
Hehe Sam's brother from Corso body works is my nextdoor neighbour. They are always working on nice cars.

New R33 Front bar! What do you think?
Mighty Highlights replied to a topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Is that a fibreglass bar? $500 is a bargain, you should look at audi bar prices... -
Of course too much power on the exit of a corner will only oversteer a rwd car. If you have a fwd too much power will cause the front tyres to exceed their levels of grip. There is not enough grip in the tyres to turn the car, as you are using up some of the grip to accelerate. Something has to give - either wheel spin, or the car understeers. That wasn't very clear. ! Basically, if you run out of grip on the steering wheels - then you cant steer anymore so the car moves in the direction of the momentum i.e. straight. -- If you regain grip on the front wheels - back off the power/ slow down then the front end will start turning you again, then the rear may run out of grip - causing an oversteering situation. If you run out of grip on the rear tyres the car moves with the momentum again - if you are going around a right hand corner then the rear will swing around in a clockwise direction. -- If you regain grip on the reer wheels - back off the power then the rear end will start pushing the car foward (as they only go straight - ignoring 4ws) , then the front may run out of grip - causing an understeering situation. To run out of grip all you need is too much power or to much speed. More confusing? well bad luck, that the best I could do Go to a track day.

Integra Type R and Astra SRi Turbo
Mighty Highlights replied to dale's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Get an Audi A4 1.8L Turbo Quatto (1997-01)- you get the advantage of 4wd and turbo power. With a chip and exhuast you will have about 155kw and 300+nm. Insurance should be around $2k for you. They are nice sleepers, thats why I bought one... But the biggest draw back is the tiny turbo. The A4 uses a Borg Warner K03, this runs out of puff by about 5500rpm You can get the K04 which is used on the TT and S3. Then you Can make about 180kw. The good thing about the K03 is that it makes boost at really low rpm, its a little like driving a non-turbo car, the torque curve it very flat. Or you can go a Garret GT25 - but this setup with everything included - Turbo, FMIC, S4 bumper to fit FMIC, clutch, injectors etc.. will cost over $10k. But then you will probably have about 200awkw ~270kw at the fly. If you want to mod your car I wouldn't go the astra turbo as the turbo they use is the K03 and its on a 2 litre, so it will probably run out of breath sooner. You can probably get a 99 for $40k. Obviously less for the 98 and 97. If you want to know any more info on the A4 PM me. Or just ask on the forum. -
The law in Vic is 125kw/tonne and clearly it is the factory quoted weights and power (at the fly obviously). It wouldn't be possible to enforce it otherwise - the cops aren't going to pull your engine out and dyno it! There is also a law of litres/tonne... i cant remember what the figure is something like 4 litres/tonne - read the road rules website... When you get your licence it says in the small print that you are responsible for keeping up to date with the laws. When I got my P's in 1998 I was sure that the penalty for not displaying your P's was 3 points and 3 months suspension of licence - or something like that. But i had a friend who got busted (as he was walking to his car) and just got a warning. If you can't do a simple thing like put your plates up, I wont question your ability to carry out the much more complicated task of driving on the road! My plates probably fell off a handful of times in 3 years - just rub them on your leg and they warm up and stick good. (you have to get the ones with all the holes in them - they are the best) Finally in Vic a full licence has had 12 points for as long as I can remember.

To wang, or not to wang.... that is the question?
Mighty Highlights replied to Cyric's topic in Victoria
That wang looks sooooo stupid, and your car is representative of you. And you dont wanna look stupid do you. I say remove it and burn it, so no one else can make their skyline look so silly. -
W T F ??!!! 6 Coppers, 1 Night, 15 min car trip
Mighty Highlights replied to SS8_Gohan's topic in Victoria
I was driving home last night up mt.alexander road (@12:30am). I saw a panel van had pulled over an VS commadore. And then On bulla rd about 5km's further down there was a Booze bus. And they didn't let ANY drivers through. I mean the road is 2 lanes and the testing lane was full of cars and the guy with the light thinginy didn't wave through other cars until the testing lane was cleared, as they normally do. He just held up traffic and EVERYONE was breathtested, including the VS commadore that had just been pulled up a few k's before. -
What do you get after owning a Skyline???
Mighty Highlights replied to legend's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Do a little bit of work to them and they arn't that slow. But are not as easy to mod as skylines. But then again what is! The 4WD in the A4 is awesome. They are a damn sight rarer than the 1,000,001 skylines on the road. That why I chose the A4 after having my heart set on a Skyline. They are also comfy. But no electric folding mirrors -
What do you get after owning a Skyline???
Mighty Highlights replied to legend's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
The A31.8T is NOT a quick car, well it is compared to an excel. Lets get this straight. The 1.8T engine is the only one worth much consideration. The A3 and A4 use basically the same engine with the same output 110kw. These use a ko3 turbo. In 1999 the A4 had upped boost and with variable timing i think, had 132kw. With a chip all of these 1.8t's wheather they are an a3 or a4 will have ~150kw and 300nm of torque, from about 2500rpm. The S3 has the same basic 1.8t engine (with a few stronger bits) but with a k04 turbo, the old S3's made 154kw, the new ones 165kw/280nm. With a chip these will make about 195kw/360mm. The S4 is a 2.7litre v6 twin turbo using 2 k03 turbos combined (not sequential) factory these have 195kw/400nm torque 1850-3600 rpm. With a chip these will make 250kw. Then there is the rs4 which makes 280kw i think, its a 2.7litre but with k04 turbos instead of the k03's. Chipped these make 330kw. A common mod in the A4 is if the turbo goes, replace it with a k04. But what you skyline guys have to watch out for the A4's with garrett GT25's. These make around 250kw i think depending on the trim. There is one A4 going around, no need to tell you specs just look at this timeslip: Fast A4 Any more questions? -
What do you get after owning a Skyline???
Mighty Highlights replied to legend's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I dissagree, stock for stock a skyline feels way beefier than a 1.8T A4. Im just getting happier with the level of power I have now, which includes a chip to up the boost, exhaust, electric fan kit and air filter. It *probably* makes around 155kw at the fly. So a stock skyline should still beat it, in the dry. But there are some quick ones around. -
Just dynoed my car @ 387rwhp
Mighty Highlights replied to RNS11Z's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Just a question why are you guys making well over 300rwhp and only doing mid 13 sec 1/4's? Shouldn't you be getting mid 12's with that much power. "13.5@104mph, 368rwhp More than Troy " 104 is a very low mph for 368 rwhp.... whats going on here? Dynos can lie, but the track doesn't. -
Hi flow cats flow more that all.... I have heard they are a bit of a crock tho. All the really are is a normal cat with a bigger flange on them, allowing bigger pipes. But at the end of the day i dont really know.

Ahhhh the S2 I dremt about that one for ages. But you will need ~$40k and the fact that there are only ~30 in the whole country probably wont help. And they use porsche brakes.... which cost a mint to replace. I think you best bet is an A4 1.8l Turbo Quattro..... just happens to be my exact car You need the B5 1.8L, you need the Quattro. Basically comes in 2 specs 1996 - DONT GET, hard to chip the ECU 1997<1999.5 (could call series 1 110 kw) 1999.5<2002 (could call series 2 132 kw) updated minor things, a little nicer looking all round. Dont be suckered in by the apparent lack of power of the Series 1, as once you chip both engines, the 2 cars have very similar performance. ~150kw @ 1 BAR. It has a little meatier torque than the WRX so should match a stock one. (need to grab 3rd gear to get 0-100 vs rex 2nd) so 0-100 times are decieving. You can get insurance for <2k, try that with a rex.... I slightly overpaid for my car i think, it cost ~$34. Im sure you could get a 97' with no leather, sunroof and stock wheels for ~25-27 depending on how good you bargain. MAKE SURE ITS THE TURBO QUATTRO (this comes with sport suspension) FYI, The current model A4 is the B6. I forgot to mention, dont buy a euro unless you have emergency cash lying around.... apparently a replacement dual mass clutch + flywheel for the a4 can cost ~$3k -
Should you buy a Skyline for a first car?
Mighty Highlights replied to two40's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
If you import cars then you should be driving them likea granny... i would hate it if the car I imported got drifted around the car park by the import guys -
I just got a 3" dump pipe, hi flow cat, into a 2.75" from cat back. Topped off with a remus muffler (which is the bling bling muffler in the euro muffler world) 2nd hand for $600. Only 2 years old and still in good nick. All Stainless.

Should you buy a Skyline for a first car?
Mighty Highlights replied to two40's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I think im a responsible driver now that im 23. But if anyone wants me to fang it a bit.... i still get tempted, im not game to take on skylines yet (need more mods ). Im just lucky I have 4wd, although not as fun as hanging the rear end out in my falcon (hehe my bogan days) it is sooooo sure footed. The skylines have a reputation for snapping around on you, especially in the wet, and especially again if you don't understand the powercurve. Thats said, there are also exceptions to the rule. There will be some kid out there with an r34 gtr with 500kw who never put a scratch on it. And there will be some dude who goes through 5 shitboxes with 35kw. Some of it is being in the wrong place at the wrong time, some of it is down to the driver AND their experience. -
Should you buy a Skyline for a first car?
Mighty Highlights replied to two40's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I drove a toyta hilux 2.4 litre as my first car! And then I bought my parents EB falcon. (cliche?) Now I have my 1st nice car, didn't get it till I was 22. When I 1st got my licence there was an old blue celica (the datsun/escort style) coupe that I really wanted. It wouldn't have been fast, but a cool 1st car. If you are in Victoria, forget about the Turbo Skyline's, they are too powerful, power to weight. (and the weight is determined from the factory figue) As is a rex. Just get some car you like, thats not a skyline. 15-20k is a lot to spend on a 1st car, and as it was said before, most people have at least 1 little scrape, in their early years. -
R33 series 2, min mods Vs A3 turbo, chiped
Mighty Highlights replied to =KowP='s topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
It is a A3 1.8t. I know there are many skylines in the 10's-11's but here is one quick A4 1.8 Turbo Quattro: Gone in 12.1 seconds This is as far as I know the quickest daily driver A4 in the world. Its in Victoria as well. The video shows the run, I can't quite tell but in the other lane it looks like a skyline to me...:shake: hehe Not bad for 1.8 litres. -
R33 series 2, min mods Vs A3 turbo, chiped

The Euro's were turboing before the Japs were. I would say its the other way around. -
R33 series 2, min mods Vs A3 turbo, chiped
Mighty Highlights replied to =KowP='s topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
The redline in my A4 (1.8t) Quattro. Is ~6300 indicated. But the limiter on a chipped car doesn't kick in till about 7200 i think. That said because the turbo is so small (the kkkO3) it can not push anymore air (hold 14 psi boost) once you get past about 5500. So there is not point reving it any higher, as you get more power by changing gears. If he had a K04 this would give him about 185 kw and the power band would be about 1krpm higher. -
R33 series 2, min mods Vs A3 turbo, chiped
Mighty Highlights replied to =KowP='s topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
From the other side (the Audi forum perspective) Audi Forum Audi A3 1.8T vs R33 GTS-T debate Yeah the euro turbos are small.... thats why we need to upgrade to garetts to make serious power. But the stock full torque at 2k rpm is nice. -
What a load of crap that is. A kid in a performance car is a kid in a performance car - they all get labelled together. No one cares weather someone is ethnic. I’m sure there are ethnic cops! OMG WTF does ethnic mean anyway. P platers in R33 and later turbo skylines alway have been blatant breakers of the law. If you think about it logically it is smart to not have inexperienced drivers (Which P platers unarguably are) in high performance cars. Can anyone tell me they were a better driver when they were on their P's compared to now? No. You knew the rule/it was your prerogative to know before you bought you car. You choose to take the risk of getting a fine. Stop complaining. FFS you can't measue the weight of the car with you in it. may as well put 500kgs of lead in the boot.
