  1. Trent at Mercury Motorsport will be able to look after you...top guy too. Highly recommend.
  2. a better one would have been... You can't polish a turd.
  3. I have 13 engine builds in this stage at the moment too...time is their enemy. I need to clear the backlog and call in the brickies.
  4. quick example...just jap has RB25 studs for $320...GTR set is $599
  5. just something to compare...i knocked up an engine from mostly used parts for my wife so she had a decent engine to race at the drags. It had 2nd hand Nissan head bolts and stock head gasket... It was thrashed for over 3 years and won about a dozen trophys and made 465+awkw at around 35psi of boost! Id never recommend anyone ever actually do this but it goes to show it not the sum of the parts used...its how they are put together that really counts the most.
  6. Ok..for a start there are NO oil feeds to the head on the exhaust side of the engine...so that statement they made to you is incorrect. It was built using a fastner when correctly installed that can generate a maximum clamping force of 220,000psi under operating conditions below its yield strength. The engine only saw 30psi of boost!...stretching a 12mm main stud takes a bit more than that. My guess is one of these...incorrectly installed stud...probably bottomed out or incorrectly torqued , poorly cleaned head that has leaked oil onto the head gasket during installation compromising the seal or the block is split around the turbo oil feed.
  7. The whole thing souds like a bit of a crock from the info you have provided. Not from you personally but from the 'workshop'. Stands out like dogs nuts...can't understand why the king of RB engineering ^ didn't pick it up instantly. I build these engines all the time and i have a fair idea what has happened. Was it built locally?
  8. yeah this is how Stacey was..."yeah im buying a GTR" "yeah more power would be great" "Im going to race it" "I won my 1st event" "I won a National title" "How good am i" "I love the car" to..."I hate that damn car" "Lets sell it and buy a new kitchen" "When are you going to top spending money on that bloody thing" "Your going racing in sydney the whole weekend" etc... time is your enemy my friend.
  9. Im about to construct a purpose built engine room at home (Stace has had enough of me being away from the house building engines). Will feature strip/wash down area and enclosed temperature controlled assembly room. In the design stage at the moment and will post some pics as soon as construction begins.
  10. $5500...sold in a few days so even $5500 was maybe a little cheap. cost $1500 to build including r33 update parts add on top of this the cost of purchasing gearset.
  11. Im glad you picked that example Steve-o...as i know quite a bit about it. haha...the car he used for his example doesn't in fact run -5's. I spent a week with Ben at his Melbourne workshop 18 months ago and he assures me they are not your run of the mill -5. He actually tested 8 different turbo combo's (changing trim, housing etc) before finding out what worked best. To avoid someone copying them he orders the bits from different suppliers and performs the assembly in house (JFK's post on the last page was very close to the mark but slightly inaccurate). Ive been for a drive in this car and experienced it first hand...Ben admits the amount of r&d gone into just the engine bay would exceed over $200,000. Makes the 2530's look like a real bargain now doesn't it. Thanks mate.
  12. put Nitto's in it. bulletproof 7/16 arp's, thick walled pins etc
  13. I made 467kw at the treads under strict dyno competition conditions (real figures) with these puppies years ago when that was spastic power and ran 10.3's on radials in a 1570kg car...try doing that with your Garrett's.
  14. HKS latest generation duralumin RB cam pulleys $400pr Trust clear timing cover $150 will do a $500 bundle on both items. no offers please and purchaser(s) to cover freight.
  15. Just to make things totally clear...the engine builder was NOT anywhere near Newcastle...they were in Sydney some 150+klm away. thanks
  16. I have a set of HKS 2510's that i pulled off a mates car here...if you want stock response and more top end this is the turbo of choice. I think he may sell them if you are interested...pm me if your keen.
  17. yeah...cannot understand why they would do that.
  18. PPG's are only quick to shift if they are built right...lol
  19. no im not selling them...merely stating that i thought the price quoted was no-where near what i paid for the 2 or 3 sets ive bought. if anyone wants them ring CRD (no pm's to me please) as thats who i buy mine off. maybe i get a good deal? as ive spent a lot with them over the years.
  20. not only will Jack give you the best price, he will also give you the best service. one of the worlds true gentleman...top fella.
  21. i buy them much cheaper than whats quoted above....i think last set i bought were about $180
  22. Fixed ^ Yeah...he sick now...what did you guys do to him?
