  1. I doubt you could come to any other conlusion than 'its raining today, so it must be always raining all over the world' you have decided from your extensive experience that ethanol blends are bad. all you have established is that you car cannot run the blend in its current state of tune. speaking of which, I don't recall you actually mentioning what car you used it in (this is just me being curious) so now that leaded petrol isn't sold, there is no alternative, right? how long did it take to phase it out? And how long have cars been 'unleaded only'? 86, I think. thats a LONG time is car terms There only needs to be new car support anyway. Older cars can be converted (replace fuel pump, hoses and seals. and a re-tune) quite simply. next you will be saying LPG is bad because you need to get a conversion kit for it, AND a retune on top of that. Just because its different, doesn't mean its bad.
  2. Whats wrong with ethanol? yes, I have read the entire post (I can't be stuffed with the links) yes, it can be bad to your fuel system. If you happen to own a landrover, their oem fuel pumps have plastic in them... it dissolves, bye bye. big deal 'not reccomended' by the manufacturer. MODIFYING CARS IS NOT RECCOMENDED by the manufacturer. Even if its better. big deal retune the ecu. its NOT petrol. Its ethanol (blended). Ever wonder why funny cars fun alcohol based fuels (before top fuelers, that is)? and politics? petrol companies want ethanol out. So they can sell their fossil fuels instead. I liked the quote about physics, but perhaps a working knowledge of chemistry is also needed. Yes, it upsets the Oxygen balance (and a host of other things). as has been said, get a retune. Ethanol is different. Superior, in my opinion, but it would take too long to justify The only reason I wouldn't use it is availability. I do alot of counrty miles, and can't afford to be stranded in a small town. If I could, I would run 100% ethanol. for a start it is an incredible fuel. And secondly, environmentally sustainable. hands up who likes $50 US a barrel (and singapore refinery prices). Enough from me. I could go on all day. I strongly approve of ethanol and of bio diesel. Oh - and a note to all the other people who have strong feelings. don't turn this into a flame war.
  3. Shipping date: November 19th. I won the auction on September 26th. I sure hope for all your sakes that I am the odd one out. The importer said it took alot longer than usual... If you can believe him (nothing personal - and hes been great) AFTAMATH, I find it hard to believe your car will be the november boat. ... And now, a request for postings: What car are you currently importing (or should I start up a new thread? For me, R32 GTS4. seems to be stock as a rock. I need 600cc more.
  4. I got a mate who pulled that trick on a few people. Then he got curious. idiot. and he drives a skyline. I guess they are all crazy. and on the FWD topic, what about a 70s model civic (they still exist)? put the blower off a 1JZ (?) on it (~$250 + fittings). Fit some proper rubber and some tie down bars. And hang on
  5. My dream... *sigh* What 4 door? 32, 33? Cefiro? thanks. OOsh - have you condsidered a thermo switch that can also turn the fans on (even when manually off?)
  6. Debadged VR-4 or an old SL430 (merc).... all it would need is induction, and you could light it up in 3rd (OK, maybe not) I guess the best sleeper is the 'shopping trolley'. Since when does a crappy 86 magna run 12s?
  7. just watch the diff ratios... they are different between all the models, and from memory, the NA had the shortest (highest) ratio. then GT-R, GTS-4 and finally GTS-t probably have the order wrong, but the point is to watch the ratios. sorry, but I had a quick look for some proof and couldn't find any. (but it IS true) If HICAS gives you problems, get a lock bar (from the forums - gtrgeoff I think) Hope you go for the car (I'm waiting for mine to get here... still). Welcome to nissan
  8. Plenty of people have done it. of course, most of those people own diesel vehicles (and usually older ones) from what I understand blowby of diesel can get into the engine oil. and it could combust. Ever wondered why even on modern diesel vehicles they have such a short oil change limit? if you DO decide to try it, remember diesel combusts under pressure. it doesn't need a spark to ignite. All I can say it, no way in hell I would do it.
  9. Seconds on the finding another tuner. My understanding is that leaner mixtures burn hotter - as in hot enough to burn a piston, or through the head. Under cruise load, the extra heat is not an issue, but when you start making (using?) a decent amount of power, bad things happen. Which is why : there needs to a be a little room for error Driving style notwithstanding, lean mixtures at full throttle.... bad. hope it helps (and hope its right)
  10. watching with great interest.... whats the rev limit? What cams are you using? Is it lunchtime yet? thanks
  11. You're blowin me away...
  12. In the tutorials/DIY section, there is a STEP BY STEP guide... as the search button should reveal
  13. Perhaps not quite the right thread, but just in case anyone is interested, import approval FINALLY came in... I just hope that customes has fixed a few bugs it is having... yet another skyline about to hit the streets. Well, after shipping, that is
  14. my turn... Non turbo is not that bad. will it beat a turbo? how far are you racing? across the lights (bounded by the speed limit, of course), I cant see that there would be that much difference. Though to be fair, it was a 3L skyline... gearing and power at low speeds - too much power = wheelspin (solution:ATTESA) just gettin in there. A turbo is quicker, but may not satisfy other requirements. Suspension can be tuned for anything. Hell, even FWD can perform, if done right. Just enjoy the car. It will be plenty quick (particulary if your last car was a magna - or is that just me)
  15. recycling information: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=92041
  16. Manufacturers build all sorts of things into their products. Including tolerances... Manufactures always have conflicting specs, too. The skyline is a passenger car, not a pure sports car. it does not come with 10kg/mm springs, as a concession to passenger comfort. rob82 is right that the tune wont be as good as with a stock (or z32) item..., but if it gets you to the 200rwKw (slightly cheaper), congratulations CEF11E, keep it up. This is the kind of mod that I would make, but its a whole lot easier when I know the end from the beginning. tuning the ecu (and related difficulties)... So, what have you already done to the car to make it require this?
  17. I thought they had a longer duration and more overlap - as is standard in NA cars (more power later in the rev range), whereas the stadart turbo camshaft was more about bringing power in earlier (less overlap). Not only that, but I read (wish I could remember where) that this WAS the case - eg, cefiro cams. could someone please supply some more information? specifically duration, as overlap can be dialled in with a set of adjustable cam gears. thanks
  18. Arrh!! Whats with the server!?! Why cant I delete this post?!? Why am I here?!? Hey - Why are you here? GET OUT!!!
  19. yeah, it does sound like lag city, but its what makes you happy that counts. and speaking of couting, consensus seems to ge that the stock injectors cant count past 200kW at the wheels (well, 220 is possible, but with other supporting mods - such as a fuel pressure regulator) Don't try for more without upgrading the injectors (and fuel pump). I don't think the gearbox likes much more, either. Good luck mate. I'm envious. I'd try (even if I took it off next month).
  20. Skyline-man, where are you... I'v heard that you can chew soap and use it to plug up fuel tank punctures. Of course, doing that anywhere but the nullabor plain is, well, distateful... find where the fuel is leaking from. This includes coming out the fuel cap. Happened to me all the time in my old magna (though your cap should be better). I wanna know...
  21. explanation and resolution? Lots of emotion just fizzling. So exactly what is happening now?
