  1. That pic confuses me, are you in the GT-R or the GT4? Your name implies the GT4, but the pic implies the 34...
  2. I'm a bit perplexed by the mindset to be honest. I'm going there to see fast cars, I don't care if they don't look "pretty". I've seen countless more or less stock looking fast cars, what I haven't seen is people trying something brand new in the quest for seconds. Lets not forget that at one stage Formula 1 cars were doing things like this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brabham_BT46
  3. I think either will be "exclusive" enough where I'm from though that's less of a factor for me as is making the right choice and being happy with it. I'd be looking at a VS2 so the price gap would be a bit closer. I wouldn't be considering either if I couldn't afford them but I'm in my 30s and have worked hard to be where I am, I'm not rich by any stretch, just sensible with my cash. As I'm not rich, R35 maintenance costs scare me a little when compared to the 34, plus I'm far more familair with the RB26 and associated platform. Throw in a forthcoming R36 and I'd expect to see R35 prices drop further, which I'm mindful of. I realise you don't "lose" anything in terms of car value unless you actually sell, but I still wouldn't want to drop 90-100k on a car and see it's value drop 10-20k purely because the R36 get's released (2015/16 I think was rumoured).
  4. Seems like a big risk bringing an untested car?
  5. Well I'm making the trek up this year, as a spectator of course, so I'll be sure to give my expert opinion on why everyone is so slow compared to my imaginary WTAC car See you guys there maybe?
  6. Whatever I buy will be strictly weekend only and looked after. We all know how quickly track work makes cars look tired. I don't want that.
  7. Agreed. However my context for this discussion is street only.
  8. Go drive some and tell me what you think
  9. Power level, in my experience, has minimal impact on actual maintenance costs Ash has done some god work with oil for a street car. You control the quality of the components you use and in all honesty any reputable brand oil and oil filter combo will be fine. You might spend a bit more on spark plugs but they will tend to last longer as a result. Air filters for most of us are washable/cheaply replaced. Ash (on here) has done some good work with oil testing and found, if I recall, that most of us are jumping the gun with 5k oil changes anyway. The oil is still viable and doing its job.
  10. Fair point re maintenance. Though neither will be track cars for me.
  11. God damn... Yeah I know. Just as many nice R35s around though.
  12. Yeah I get you. I keep that in mind also, investing, but at the same time you can't take the wealth with you so at some point you need to enjoy yourself. Talk of an R36 makes the 35 less special to me too. Kind of makes it the new 32. Great but better things coming. Whereas the 34 was the last of its line.
  13. I've thought about maintenance cost as well. I can afford to maintain either but the 34 would require less thought - as I'm not "rich" have just been smart with my money.
  14. In many ways this thread as h made me want a 34 more (in terms of the personal attachment factor, looks, cheaper maintenance etc) but a 35 more because in many ways it's a better street car and that's where this car will live (not saying it can't be/is not a better track car, only that the street car element is the important one for me).
  15. Agreed, the issue is you getting a real sense of what the car will be like longer term in a short test drive. I can see a lot of 34 owners in here who have dabbled with the 35 and not loved it. Was that more to do with the step up in price or purely to do with the car itself? I didn't want this thread to turn into a place where 34 drivers could affirm their choice, looking for genuinely considered opinions from people who have owned both or at least spent enough time behind the wheel of both - and not to discredit anything said, all the info has been great so far but interestingly far more kudos for the 34 than I expected.
  16. This is true in sense, but given the R34 iteration of the RB26 still has the same oil control issues, it's not as simple as saying the last version is the best. Have you spent a bit of time in a 35 to compare all aspects beyond straight line performance? Very nice car btw.
  17. No school holidays, genuine question I've struggled with for a while Apparently the answer is Cressida? (If that's what that is?)
  18. God damn it don't show me that...
  19. If I was to go for an R34 the goal would be a VS2, not for resale value but because it's the sexiest to me.
  20. Good point in that if I wanted to part ways it likely wouldn't be that hard to get an R34 swap.
  21. Yeah just reading the list of side effects, pretty harsh stuff if you ended up with a few of them.
  22. How do you go with side effects? Most sprays are pretty harsh on the nose lining.
  23. Any info you're willing to share is appreciated. PM if necessary.
