Pullup Progress And Improvement Thread.
No Crust Racing replied to rev210's topic in Health & Wellbeing
I've always seen chins as underhand grip, pulls as overhand, grip width not that big a deal, at least shoulder width. I do weighted chins, easier on my elbows. -
I used to jog in the mornings also, sacrificed an extra 30mins sleep but felt great for it.

OK sweet, that same site has the brand Kate was looking at in the same price bracket so I can only assume it's going to be potentially as well built.

Does this look familiar? http://www.fitnessmarket.com.au/shop/sportop-e450-corporate-elliptical-cross-trainer.html#.Umg-svlmhcY

Fig: Did you speak to your parents about their eliptical?

MMA would be a step above compound weights I'd say. Sparring is full body recruitment, huge tax on the respiratory systems. I didn't do MMA but I did do some freestyle martial arts back in the day, nowhere near as hard a work as grappling though, and I agree it's a different type of fitness.

Tarmac Rallying Perpetual Thread
No Crust Racing replied to Marlin's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
There's obviously more to it than that lol, you don't punch a hole in the block at that power and rpm if everything has been done properly. I'm no Evo over but by most accounts the 4G is a good bit of gear. -
I meant that for ther same weight I am now, I've had bigger arms (which would mean smaller elsewhere and likely in the legs, I'm more balanced now). Yeah I know I'd need more mass, it's more of a wish than a need, I don't want to be any heavier right now as there's a touch too much on the gut for my liking. lol it's not a hang up Rev, my wrists are small, my hands are slender, my shin bones, ankles etc, just small joints, lighter build is all, not a big deal just something I've noted. As for Gym last night. Legs had a few tender spots from Monday (after which I did a 4.5k power walk with Kate up the hill) So toned back a little. Did single set of 10 bw squats to loosen up a little then got into bench and went 8/8/6.8 that is I got the 7th rep over the pins, higher than last time, and kept pushing and was very very close to lockout height but couldn't quite get it. Very close though. When I can lock out 7th consistently I'll look to add a touch of weight, though I also realise I could add a touch of weight now and that'd help me get past that 105kg 7th rep. Did 2 sets of 10 empty bar squats with a board - noticed my left knee "wiggles" as I get down past parallel, that is, it quickly flicks inwards then back out again, both sides do it bu it's really noticable on the left. Between those 2 sets did 20 calf raises with some 3kg dumbells. Managed 8/8/7 on the chins, 7 was ugly and got half way up for the 8th rep. Took a quick 10sec breather then squeezed out one more. Did some 20 rep per side single leg lunges with the 3kg dumbbells and some reverse pretend deadlift with the same weights. Went 8/8/8 on the dips so can look to add a little more next time. Then did a 2min plank and 2 sets of 8 rows, just light ones to see how it felt.

Interesting. That sort of effort should have you sucking in air pretty hard. Which means load on your cardio system an improvement to it over time.
-
None. Weights you can do for 3x8 or 3x10. Done explosively. 60 secs between sets. Focus on compound movements. Plenty of cardio. If you're not puffed the weight is too light or you're not moving fast enough. Alternatively, do two exercises at one time and switch back and forth set for set. 60secs rest after 1 set of each movement. Or various alternatives of the above.

I love seeing Troy's box.

I don't see why they don't just have a juiced up games. Let people go nuts on any gear they want. Would see some amazing results and would accelerate the development of various drugs, which could then be used for non sporting reasons in patients etc. Or do we call that Tour de France these days?

I'd of thought they were illegal more so because of the potential health concerns. Protein supps work, they're not illegal... That said, I know SFA about steroids so I can't really comment with any conviction. I know I have no interest in them, that's enough for me.

lol, I have the same "problem" with Kate. When she was heavily into her running, and I'm talking she runs up the hill on scorching hot days she's a friggen machine, she had killer abs. She's devo that she she can't run and doesn't have them now but I like her mi section much more without them. That's the way it goes though isn't it. She likes her abs, I don't. I like to be a bit bigger and heavier set, she prefers me to be lean and mean lol Beyond my personal opinions of if you should or shouldn't have them, if you want them keep at it and you'll get there. You're very dedicated and a very hard worker. As mentioned though, some of it is genetics in how you develop.
-
My abs are not anywhere near as good anymore, look back at that pic I posted, they look better because of lighting. I'm also a guy.... Plus I also used to do a ton of ab work. Situps, planks, weighted crunches, all sorts of stuff. It's not like they were just "there". That was a trade off of being bigger, harder to keep abs. Honestly, I don't think you should be striving for "abs" anyway, I'm not a fan of them on girls, lean and toned sure, actual solid ab definition, not for me.

lol, yeah pound for pound you'd be stronger than me in many exercises Leesh, I've lost so much strength in so many areas, but things could be worse. I used to plank for much longer too, and do invisible chair wall holds, sit against the wall like in a chair but with no chair, hold for as long as you can etc, and kill it (when I was snow boarding) but I've lost a ton of core and leg strength through this leg break period. No biggy though, I still look ok enough and could be weaker I'm sure I'll get there. wherever "there" is.

Thanks guys.

You mean what you see in the gym? I wonder if that's an equipment issue or lack of care/maintenance.

Got some gym in last night, a good 40min session that had me puffing. Dropped the bench weight and think I've found the right "starting" point. managed 8/8/7 (just managed to get the 7th above the pins not a full lock out. This was at 105. Did 10 squat reps with an empty bar trying different foot positions and width, with board, without. Notice that no matter what I do, my right knee always sits higher when I'm down in the hole, assuming pelvic tilt or lack of ankle rom stopped knee moving forward like it should. Did 3 sets of those 10 reps, and after each set did 20 calf raises with my toes on a board to allow greater range and used some 3kg dumbdells. Managed 8/8/7 on the 20kg weighted chins so almost ready to add a little bit. Then did some single legged dumbell lunges but more like the drop portion only. So in the lunged position but just dropping and coming back up rather than stepping out into the lunge if that makes sense. I was doing 20 and alternating legs so 10 each side but I did 20 one one side then 20 on the other, and felt some good burn. Managed all sets of 26.25kg weighted dips, not getting a huge tricep burn on this though which I read is about torso angle. I want the tricep load as it makes up so much of your arm size and mine aren't very big. After that did some reverse pretend deads, just the motion with some 3kg dumbells. After that managed a 1m 50sec front plank and called it a day. Back is feeling a little better today for it.

So no comments re the eliptical? Not surprised really but worth a shot. Squat question for the biomechanical among us. I was going through some motions last night and found that regardless of foot angle or width of stance when I get below parralell and look in a mirror, the knee on my bad side is higher than the other. I'm assuming this is either a tilt in my pelvis or lack of mobility in the bad ankle stopping that knee moving out in front like the other one does. A board helps a little but I'm starting to wonder if 2 legged squatting is ever going to be a good idea for me. Maybe I'll look at some one legged alternatives or something.
-
Haven't tried those but used to do various tricep isolations with good success.

Anyone know much about semi commercial grade gym equipment? Kate is looking at something like this. http://www.worldfitness.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=67_142&products_id=518 She loves Ellipticals, but will need something decent as I can see her destroying a cheap machine pretty easily.
