  1. Forum is a much better medium for these sorts of discussion IMO.
  2. Checked it this morning and took another pic. It appears to have dropped just a touch to me, in the first pic the fluid can be seen behind the letters in the GKTECH label but in the second pic it's just below them. This "appears" to be a lesser drop than what I've seen, but as I filled the overflow up and the shape of the bottle opens up as it gets higher, there's more surface area when it's fuller so the drop will be less noticeable. More driving needed and I'll roll the car back and check the paper tonight. Before driving and after completely cooling down overnight.
  3. Fluid topped up, race tape mark put on the overflow, and photo taken. Been for a decent drive to get it nice and hot. Got back and no gurgle and level still the same, but it seems to drop as it cools so we'll see what happens. Gave it some gas under street lights too, could not see any plumes of smoke Jacked car up while it was still running, can't see any leaks. Put down clean white paper under the whole engine bay to try and catch any leaks. .
  4. I'll use tap so I can remove it but yeah same idea. I'm pretty sure it dropped again over night, the good news is there must be enough "seal" in the system for the vacuum to be good enough to draw from the bottle I guess.
  5. Drove it again briefly last night, checked it this morning, I took before and after photos of the reservoir but took them on different angles. I'll check again when I get home but I'm inclined to think the coolant level dropped a bit again =\ Hopefully it's still just air coming out but you'd have to think it'd all be gone by now so either there's still leaks (which I can't see/find) or the headgasket is still leaking...
  6. Coolant level was a touch lower this morning so hopefully that's just air working its way out after having had various pipes disconnected. I'll monitor closely.
  7. Had some success today. Enzed got me sorted, I got a much better guy today. Put it all back together tonight, even used new copper washers. Ran it while on stands, no leaks. Took it for a drive and got it nice and hot then put it straight back up on stands, no leaks. Switched it off, no gurgle. I'll continue driving it to see if it's using coolant or gurgles again then hit the Dyno if it's all good.
  8. That's not that different to any other service industry, mine included. I used to hate having people watching me work back when I was still out in the field.
  9. I've seen some coverage of that 240z a few times going up against that Perana Good looking bit of gear.
  10. I'm lucky enough to be the mechanic, tuner, and financier...
  11. Admittedly I'm starting to get a bit over it... Sorting the leak that is. Just want to dyno the thing and get back to the track.
  12. No luck at Enzed, apparently the hose and fitting combo is "unique" which is the story of my friggen life whenever I go there. I'll grab my spare braided lines and fittings tonight to help them out.
  13. Created a new issue for myself today, fixed one leak and in the process the hose twisting caused the other end to start weeping so in tightening that I snapped off the fitting.... That said, if it needs to be that tight to stop leaking then it was always going to fail. I'll get a new fitting and get the braided hose end re-done during the week.
  14. I'll have to fix the leak in the braided line first and then see how it's behaving after that. I'm in two minds about the noise location, either there's a leak there that I just can't see or that's a spot where the air from a leak somewhere in the system accumulates and then it boils once the car is stopped. So firstly I have to remove obvious leaks, that weep may very well be a larger leak when the car is in motion and properly hot.
  15. I didn't, as I wanted to fix the obvious leaks first. My main concern is the dropping coolant level because I'm paranoid I haven't fixed the HG properly.
  16. hah, pass mate, we have a baby on the way so no toys for me for a while. The Silvia will stay though.
  17. I'm not into water sports, 1) I do not float 2) I've got a pale complexion so the sun is not my friend. I could always get back into dirt bikes, at least when I'm out on those I'm covered up lol
  18. Drove it last night, no gurgle that I could hear when I got back, but the coolant level had dropped a small amount in the overflow over night. I'll have to fix that braided line to rule that out too.
  19. As above. Given that the car and driver combo is a proven performer, I'd be inclined to paint it one colour and try for some sponsorship, could ease the financial burden a bit. I fully understand the social aspect though, that's often been something I've thought about too. What other hobby could I have that I can do more regularly and involves more people.
  20. It's weeping at the fitting, where the line joins the banjo fitting on the turbo. It's the outside line also and very easy to access on my setup, I can remove it, but of course it will piss coolant out everywhere during the process. I'd ay I'd have to get a hydraulics place to remove the end and re-crimp/attach whatever it is they do.
  21. Very nice. What's on the cards for 2013?
  22. Spent some more time on it tonight and thought I'd test the tester. I inflated the bladder in the neck of the radiator and just let that sit, low and behold the gauge started dropping so I'd say the tester has a leak of its own. I pressurised the system fully and looked for leaks again, only one I can find is that tiny weep from the braided turbo line so I'm not super worried about that. I'll drive it some more and see what the coolant level does and go from there.
  23. OK done for the day as I'm a bit over it now. Flushed out all the radiator flush stuff, ran the car for a solid 25 mins, jacked up and levelled out with the top radiator hose disconnected and waited for the water to run clear. I had the heater on the whole time on full. I let the car idle for a few minutes without anything in the radiator just to pump out the last of the fluid then reconnected the top hose and filled the radiator with coolant. After filling the radiator and the overflow tank it only took 4L of fluid, though the FSM says the system takes 7L. I let it idle way up on the jack for quite a while to free up any air bubbles then took it for a drive. Temperatures were stable and the heater worked fine. After coming back it still gurgled from the same spot, not for long though, and I got under it and still can't find any obvious coolant leaks with the exception of a very tiny weep at one turbo line. After letting the car cool down, it looks to have drawn a little coolant from the overflow and there appears to be a little bit of sediment sitting on top of the coolant in the radiator, nothing serious though. I'll drive it a few more times and get it hot/cool it down and see if the overflow levels out after a while. I still have the pressure tester also.
  24. Working on the car at the moment, just stopping for lunch and waiting for it to cool down. Emptied out the radiator and ran the engine with clean water flowing in while watching the water flowing out. Plugged it up and put a bottle of radiator flush in it, filled it up and let it idle for a good 25mins. Towards the end it started frothing up as shown. I'm assuming this occurs as the radiator flush does its work. Once it's cooled I'll flush it again then put new coolant in it, no doubt it'll take a while to bleed out the air but at least once I'm done the coolant should be clean enough for me to TK test it if needed.
  25. Lol nah I work in an industry where it can take ages to solve an issue so I'm pretty patient. Yeah still has heater in it.
