Help Me Work Out Offset
No Crust Racing replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Ahh OK, Cheers for that. So if i can find a set of rims 8" all round and +30 at the highest i should be right, or I could also go 9" and +30 on the back if I find a set that has staggered rim widths. The car maks SFA power, wouldn't be more than 130rwkw's at the most at present. Will get more down the track. -
Help Me Work Out Offset
No Crust Racing replied to No Crust Racing's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Niss: As per my PM on NS "I've been reading a few offset/clearance threads and you and I seem to be on the same page, that is tyres that fit the rim PROPERLY. I've got some 235/45/R17 semi's and I'm looking for suitable rims to go with them. At the moment they are ballooned onto my 17x7 ET40 rims and they look bad and don't handle well. also, they JUST clear the springs up front . (-2.5 camber) I'm thinking 17x8 rims all round (is this wide enough) or if I go 9's all round will I have clearance issues? I'm not sure what offset to get either. To throw another spanner in it, I've got S15 calipers up front and I'm still running 4 stud. Thoughts? " Those enkies I went to get in melb turned out to be 7J up front so I drove home (3hrs) empty handed. Is an 8 or 9J going to be better and what sort of offset should I be looking for to ensure the inner clearances are OK. Finding wheels has been an nightmare... -
Awesome, thanks, what's his username on here?
-
Thanks for that, looks great but probably a bit out of my price range though.
-
Further to my thread here What are some places and I can look to try and find something suitable besides NS, SAU, Boostcruising and eBay?
-
There's also the Milano http://www.motorsportworld.com.au/products/velo/index.htm (top seat) which appears to be a GP-90 without the removable/adjustable seat cusions. anyone have one of these? Also, do the rails need to be modified to fit in an S13? Don't suppose you know this Ryan given you used Bride rails which were probably S13 specific?

I tried this at revolution http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/index...rimary&CDO= and it was OK but the shoulders didn't grab enough. I also tried this one http://www.revolutionracegear.com.au/index...rimary&CDO= But it seemed to twist and flex a bit and is almost $900 without rails etc. The Velo GP-90 is looking pretty good at the moment. Merdian has them for $648 http://www.mmsport.com.au/productview.php?...&ppid=Seats But that doesn't include rails and I doubt it includes the mounts either. Do the side mounts allow height adjustment? Other factor is postage, the Cobra is already here available locally. Velo has to be shipped.
-
I just went to our local revolution and sat in some Cobra's they seem alright. Even the base model $450 one was OK. Though it lacked a little shoulder grip that the more expensive ones had. I'm gonna go sit in my mates Velo GP-90 in the next day or two to compare. They're about 650 and comply with ADR's where as the Cobra's don't. Technically my car is still street reg'd so the ADR stuff is a nice bonus.

Hey guys, Busted my drivers seat at DECA so it's time to get a decent one. I've been having a look around some for sale threads and a few websites. I've sat in a couple of the drift brand reclinable seats at Autobarn and didn't think too much of them fpr the money. GT-R seats seem popular but are all pretty damn old now so they don't seem worth the money, the just jap copies look pretty cheap on the website, I imagine quality is in line with the price. Where abouts in Melb can I go and try some other seats? I'm thinking fixed back is the way to go (though I think I have to use a reclinable seat to keep road worthy - car is street reg'd but only ever goes to and from events or the suspension place). I've been looking at the Velo GP-90 but don't want to shell out without having sat in one at least. A mate of mine has a Velo something something fixed back so I'll go try that but I'm thinking I'm going to need to sit in a few more so if you guys know where I can go in melb to try some let me know (it's a 3hr drive for me so hitting up a few places in one day is a good idea..)

Oh gawd I lol'd
-
Just take it to Harry and tell him you need it by tonight because your car topped out at 140mph today
-
You have til October, get cracking!
-
That's the spirit, see you at Winton The easiest way to avoid having another wreck to deal with is just to not crash, seems pretty straight forward? lol
-
Awwww c'mon, if at first you don't succeed....
-
Damn, just missed out on finishing in the top half, good luck for November then Will you be attending the track day at Winton in October? (I think it's in October...) The SlowVia and I will be there with bells on.

I'm a bit out of the loop with the pissing contest, where did you finish in the results Birds? For reference I ended up 18th and I was happy with that given it was my first deca, how many issues I had on the day, and how badly I drove <-- biggest factor I'd agree with the earlier comments about the semi's, I had used ones on and they had less grip than street tyres by a mile. At one point they started to get some heat up though and I had a half decent go at the sweeper on the long wang.

Prefer jap made or jap design rims, offset shouldn't be higher than about +34 or so but my current +40 7" wide crap rims do just clear my calipers. I need to clear S15 calipers and I'm not looking to roll/flare guards. Tyres going on them will be 235 semi's so with or without tyres is fine. Must be at least 8" wide all round (not sure if I can fit 9's without guard work?) I'm in Albury/Wodonga but can come pickup from Melb, postage is a possibility depending on the rims/costs etc. PM, email on [email protected] or reach me on 0427 928 304 I'm currently clearing out some S13, S15, R33 and R32 bits from the garage too if you're interested in trading. Check out what I have here. Cheers Dan

Hey guys, Clearing out some bits in the garage. Prices do not include postage and I'm hapy to hear offers if you have'em. Happy to freight at your expense and pickup is fine from Albury Wodonga. I'm also after some stuff so see my trades below. 2x R32 GTS-T Type M seats (inc rails) - $150 - Very good condition, one tiny cig burn on drivers seat as shown below. Disregard the light dents in the bases, it's because I had them sitting upside down on each other. The light circle in the headrest of seat on the right is from the camera. More pics as requested. 1x S13 Brake Master Cylinder - $250 - As new condition, have receipt for full rebuild totaling just under $300. Was used for one lap around the block and swapped out for bigger item needed for my larger calipers. Has been kept 'wet' to keep the seals in perfect condition. (Beware anyone trying to sell a master that's been dry for any length of time) 1x S15 Brake Booster - $50 - Very good condition, includes bracket and vacuum hose. 1x Unknown steering wheel - $50 - Good condition, unknown brand, no boss kit or horn button. Swapped out for flat style wheel. 1x pair of R33 indicator/wiper stalks - $50 the pair - Left over from my R33 days (I bought a Series II and it came with these Series 1 stalks which meant I couldn't use the driving lights or rear wiper). 1x S13 Factory Grill - $20 - No broken brackets, swapped out for Nismo style grill. 1x Pair rear camber arms - $20 the pair - Replaced with ISC items for more adjustment. 1x Complete S13 shocks/springs - Best offer? - Bushes are gone in the rears, shocks themselves don't appear to be leaking and were only replaced as I wanted to start tracking the car - Seemed fine on the street. Not expecting much for these and will favour people who can come get them. ***Things I'm after - Depending on what u have I'm happy to pay cash your way also*** Fixed back drivers racing seat with rails to suit S13 17x8 or 17x9 4 stud rims. Need to clear S15 calipers, with or without rubber R33 GT-R Passenger seat and rails T28BB turbo + lines Adjustable rear toe arms I can be reached via PM, email at [email protected] or on 0427 928 304 Pictures can be found here

Well it looks like a seat is needed for the Silvia sooner than I thought. The back has torn away from the base bracket which explains why I could only sit in hectic VL turbo mode or literally hang off the steering wheel for the second half of the day lol Made for some interesting driving Who's got a seat to suit an S13 they wanna sell me!

Wow... Bring on November! Birds what were you driving by the way? Don't think we've met.

While I dislike excessive thrashing just for shits and giggles (it hurts me to watch it as much as do it myself), spending some time holding a gear high in the rev range can actually be advantageous as Ryan mentioned. While you're changing gears you're not powering the wheels plus if you do change and put the car back into the middle of its torque curve you might find it now wants to break traction where as in the higher rpm of the lower gear where torque has dropped off the power delivery is easier to control (on tight corners like a skidpan) Then, there is the other school of thought (I think it was Jim Richards who said this most notably) that taking a corner in a higher gear will often yield higher corner speeds and faster lap times as the car is more settled and you're riding the torque curve smoothy. This refers to race track stuff though where the turns are rarely as sharp as you might find on a skidpan battle. Ultimately, drive to your style and preferences, there are a million ways to tackle any corner and million reasons why every way is right or wrong in someone's eyes. While I'm not about to go thrash the hell out of my silvia because I'm on a budget, I'm not about to begrudge anyone who wants to have some fun frying tyres and put on a show for the rest of us.

Bahaha, I've only just got a handle on this sensible thing in recent times (I even moved to driving an NA auto as a daily) so I hear ya. You've picked my weakness - FLAMES! DECA needs more flamige! If my cat wasn't so pretty I'd gut it... guess it's time for a decat pipe and some adjustments to the mix
