Yeah I had the picture of what I had seen with rub marks on it wrong in my head. I've attached a pic which shows the inner guard/chassis rail is what got rubbed, I have that on both sides. Also, my ride height is about 350mm rear and 345mm front (measured from rim centre to guard lip) My clearance from the tyre to the shock is roughly 70-55mm (hard to see without getting right in there and I'm already dressed for work) -

LCA = lower control arm, I've already got some marks on mine from the drift day, but as I mentioned shouldn't be a huge issue for circuit. Yeah I'm awaiting clearance measurements. -

I'm 3hrs away and while the Sil is road reg'd it's not the best car to be doing trips to melb in. I was planning on rolling down in the BA and picking them up. I don't mind having to lip the guards ever so slightly but I'm more interested in caliper clearance and the possible contact with the LCA as I already have some marks on mine with the current rim/tyre combo but that was from the drifts which these rims would not be doing (as they will have my semi's on them) -

Haha ok I admit I might have chucked in a thinly veiled F & F reference... -
Also curious as to whether this could be rings. Car doesn't blow any smoke that I'm aware of but a little bit of fuel and seems to run OK. Unsure of compression. any hard and fast rule as to how much oil in the catch can is too much?

lol I reckon I'll be right there with ya (sliding out and going backwards that is) It's such a fun environment though that you have a blast no matter what direction you're going in. as for the Evo... don't like ya chances but for all I know you could be gods gift to driving and just decimate all lol -

I'm looking at some Enkei's which are 17x8 with a +34 offset. Now an offset calculator tells me i will have 7mm less clearance to the strut and that the rim edge will extend a further 19mm that 'should' be ok. What I can't get from the seller is disk type so i'm unsure if they will clear the calipers and i can't really drive the silvia 3hrs each way to test fit them. Also, wider tyres will also mean less clearance from rim/tyre edge to strut body and LCA's, which i think i have already rubber a few times but only at the drifts. Thoughts? -

I think there's a lot more to it than SR's are or are not delicate. Like any engine, they wear out and we all know that SR's also like to throw rocker arms (at high revs) but both of those situations can be avoided by the owner easily enough. To reduce the wear and tear a good owner is going to be paying attention to oil control, quality, etc. Every engine in the world will throw a rod, spin a bearing etc with no oil, bad oil, no oil control (baffling etc if you spend a lot of time sideways blah blah) A well kept SR can be flogged day in day out and they will hold up very well so long as a safe rev limit is observed (unless rocker arm stoppers are fitted) and oil issus are kept at bay by regular changes, oil control (where applicable) and just general common sense (so many times I've seen guys spin out at the track/on the street and keep revving the crap out of the car with no sump baffling then they wonder why the engine starved of oil and spun a bearing) A mate of mine did this exact thing to his SR not long after getting it because he wanted to go for a slide (knew it had bad oil in it) and didn't let up, a few grand later he's a bit more cautious. I'm not one for throwing money away so I'd like to keep my little CA intact for as long as possibly while still enjoying it so some of that comes down to me and some of that comes down to how the car was treated by its previous owners. -

That's where mine is. up against the transmission tunnel on the passenger side, just beneath where the centre console joins the centre stack. -
Pulled all the cooler pipes and sure enough there was plenty of oil coming from the breather pipe. Cleaned it all out and have left it sitting in the garage drying. One catch can coming right up.

Awesome news Russ, I'm in the market for a trailer myself so if you did a fix-er-up-er then I might check it out and see how you went -
So you reckon catch can time after I clean the pipes then hey DiRT Side note: I've only had my S13 a couple months too, bought it for the same reason and it's a hoot. Also, so much more fun have a dedicated track car and not worrying so much about breaking it and getting to work on Monday lol So anything i should be looking for to indicate a more serious problem?
-
I noticed an oil leak, found it coming from the cooler core, there seems to be a bit in there but what's the rule on how much is too much and how I can check if it's as simple as blowby or something more serious with the turbo seals? It's a CA powered S13 with a stock turbo, running about 12psi, core was rebuilt in '02 with $1300 worth of receipts so it shouldn't be too old. Car has full service history. Car doesn't blow smoke that I'm aware of either Cheers Dan

Right o guys, appreciate the input. I think I might give it a go this time and see how the BA handles it. I tend to play things safe so I like to at least have some idea of the risks etc. I know that doesn't rule out the box breaking or something going wrong but at least I've done some ground work. Had the aut oserviced recently and the guy said it was in good nick so that's a good start. Will check the tow pack component bolts as suggested also. If you guys are heading to deca I'll see you there I'll be the guy nervously driving the BA Fairmont into town with the slow s13 on the back

Aren't BA wagons leaf springs out back though?
-
Any idea what your C110 + trailer weighs?
-
Adz: did/does it have any special gear? Heavy duty tow pack or trans cooler? racin8: yeah fair point about the weight diff, just dont wanna stuff the BA, those boxes aren't cheap =\ racin8 and Phatboy: hah ok ok you know I meant she'll be up front with me, just saying there will be more weight for the car to lug around Anyone else wanna wade in on this?
-
is this from personal experience or a guess? Yep dual axle and braked. Hand book says to stay in third and I have the most gentle right foot ever when I'm in my daily.
-
I know many of you tow your track cars to events and I was considering towing my S13 down to DECA in a few weeks just in case something goes wrong with it and I'm stuck 2hrs from home (the car is road reg'd but will have semi's on it and is starting to look a little track only) Thing is, I'm not sure if I should risk it. My BA has a 1600kg tow pack (with an Auto) and the trailer weight plus the car would be closer to 1900kg's plus me, the missus, and some tools and so forth all on board. The car trailer in question is braked. What are other peoples thoughts on this? Dave I know you tow that datto behind a BA fairmont too but I didn't know if you had the 2300kg pack or not + the datto is a fair bit lighter than my Sil. Cheers

I know Cass, Brendan and I all wanted to be in the same group -
Alright guys, looks like we might have a winner but if anyone else is selling one let me know just incase this doesn't go ahead for whatever reason. cheers
