Just don't think that's what i read about it. Won't say more on it until i find more definate info, but afaik, people don't have so many freedoms any more.

wrong! Those laws are now being ratified or whatever... they shall remain in place. THey're even thinking of giving them more powers. Is in a SMH article a few weeks back.

I think there was something about them changing laws after cronulla riots; gave police more power to search/strip cars looking for whatever... more power to them, less to us.

Just like to point out that this... not correct. My cousin's a cop. Even he agrees that highway patrol make up their own rules.... and they do. I got defected for bullshit. Told engineer about it, and he upfront said is b/s. Nowhere in ADR does it say that car must/musn't have shit i was defected for. And compliance with ADR is the basis for defects; and thus.... b/s. they deliberately wasted my time when i was on my way to work, nomatter how poliete i was, etc. I told them i've gtg work; they like "go and wait by your car. and like "but i didnt do anythign wrong?" and again got told to go and wait by car. Then they finally come up and issue me with a defect notice, tell me how lightly i got off, etc. which was a load of crap. They just bored dickheads on power trips. Have been travelling along a major road, passed a cop in a right turn lane... soon as i went past; he flew outa the lane straight after me; he went in far left lane (me in far right), tried to overtake some people to catch up, lights infront went red, i pulled up with a car infront of me before the line, cop stuck in middle of intersection with lights on.... suck shit

Wonder if mazda 323's will be on the ban list now somebody got caught doing 137 in 50 zone... Or, perhaps they might re-consider their b/s laws... Or; somehow i doubt it.
  9. I've previously walked up to a hidden defect station and asked the cops in there wtf is the go with defects. They said that basically: anything that's not standard gets defected unless it's engineered. TIC... did my certificate too. Seems like they just on a power trip, as legally i doubt they're doing the right thing. Maybe see if you can talk to cops or solicitor about it. Not the quickest solution however. As far as exhaust noise goes; the local environment effects the reading. Sound resonates off buildings, etc. but is baffled by things such as open space/trees. Also; sometimes cars produce less noise at higher revs. My friend's car was tested at 4k rpm, failed. Then the engineer tried 5k, passed. Some exhaust shops also do tests if you want a more legit/less corrupted reading?
  10. I've seen a beetle, alfa, pt cruiser... magnas bloody weird shit.
  11. If insurance wasn't almost 4k.... Called you 2 weeks ago about this. Then got insurance quote. 'luck with the sale. looks great.
  12. If it's already been engineered, it should mean that the test should have already been administered, thus not needing to go through it again. Probably means EPA will do the same thing but and double check it. There's a decent engineer 1/2 way to the city... forget his name but. Near five dock or something maybe - off wattle st or something. Would possibly be a good person to talk to - shall see if can find details.
  13. If there's a specific induction noise level, all they can do is test it and tell you if yours is louder. If yours is restricted enough, shouldnt be louder. Maybe try a deadner/rubber/foam to line the aluminium with, as metal makes more noise than rubber, etc - and it's removable. larger cooler and filter - as said before, i think the rule is only 1 intake mod; and you have 2 engineered. Engineered means that it's certified with ADR, so they can't say shit, all they can do is double check it unfortunately. same with boost controller and waste gate, etc. If it's all certified with ADR by an engineer, the EPA can check it. If it doesn't pass, engineer is liable - unless you changed it after the certificate. You're not permitted to adjust how the engine is running from inside the cabin - part of ADR. Hence adjustable boost controller is not allowed. If you messed with any emissions control systems when you modded the car... big whoopse. Other than that, just get it tested and hope for the best If they say anything, talk it over with engineer or mechanic, and post it up here, and people see what can do about it. I have a 4" pipe runnign from an exposed filter to a reducer to my turbo; got defected but they didnt even notice it Had to get a blue slip to clear all the other b/s defects, and they didnt notice it either -but i wasnt dealing with the EPA.... 'luck.
  14. You can't drive this on your P's so you're selling, but want to swap for 180SX or S14?
  15. As you said, it's a problem to make it fit. The afm itself shouldnt be the issue. Your box should have something to let it breathe. I'm not quite understanding what the EPA's problem is/what you've got to pass? If the noise test is fine; is it an emissions test? if so, that's exhaust emissions - nothing to do with your intake. and if your intake is modified and cleared by an engineer, they shouldnt have a leg to stand on against you.
  16. If the car's tuned with aftermarket intake, etc. and nothing's been modded since the emissions tune... then car should pass emissions, which is the main concern - as this be where major fines can occur. EPA are seperate body, hence RTA cannot clear business with them, but can take your car off road because of them... Pretty sure emissions tests aren't all that accurate either If the only issue is noise from filters, maybe you could try putting a smaller one on? and block up your box a bit so that less air can pass through - if induction noise was the issue. Stock intakes are restricted and don't make alot of noise, thus restricting it should shut it up a bit.
  17. Put the stock box back on and unplug the AFM.
  18. Basically; yes.... They can be pricks and there's not much you can do about it. In my case, car was engineered, so they made shit up, which i had to change before i could get a clearance blue slip.
  19. it only covers 10k but...
  20. Pretty sure they can pass it. You may need an emissions test done however. I think the laws/ADR's for pod filters and such are regarding changes to emissions if intake is modified, thus you may need an emissions test. From top of my head; you're allowed ONE intake modification legally... else needs to be engineered or something? Which is modifications including putting a FMIC on, filter, anything... Call up any certified engineer and ask if they'll do it/criteria is your best bet. They always change the rules.
  21. man's best friend.
  22. The bullshit is that you shouldnt need to be lucky.... thanks to theifts and other crap... prospects of me upgrading to a decent car are now dim, as it would cost 3.6k/year to insure a 27k car.
  23. Depends what parts you're after. THey aren;t common enough to appear at most places. Aftermarket gear's easy to pick up but.
  24. Riots powers stay Just announced: cops now have the power to: " to stop vehicles they suspect are travelling to a location where public disorder is brewing; and * to seize and detain any item police believe might be likely to assist in preventing or controlling public disorder. Anybody see this possibly being exploited???
  25. pretty sure such a video would be edited to feature in an article about gangs or some other bullshit.... i seem to recall the last one focusing on some hectik tool at brighton, bragging about how fast he's gone on public roads. Basically: videos can be edited and manipulated...
