  1. If you want QUALITY gear (or a professional and HIGH QUALITY) nstall) go see Darren at Technik Car Audio in Willeton. Certainly not cheap but he might have some gear in your price range!
  2. I've been given several yellows (and always pass pits first time with very little effort...) but you really have to worry about these new Hwy "hoon" patrol cars. They will sticker you for ANY minor reason. The lovely people i've dealt with so far love causing problems. Coming back from freo, doing UNDER the speed limit, having just passed a speed camera, a hand held and a booze bus and all of a sudden this clown pulls some dumbass manourve and has his sticker book out before i even get out of the car... Asking for his details didnt upset him, congratulating him for doing his job to the best of his abilities and making the community safer did though That said, MOST police do a great job. I've dealt with probably 20 coppers in the last two years (including yellow's, a couple of big fines and some other non traffic stuff..) and only had problems with the hwy patrol.. These days if i see a silver hwy patrol car i stop and wait till they leave. They love locations frequented by nice cars, so beware!!
  3. Silver hwy Patrol car?
  4. Good to see people actually THINKING before modding a car No point going fast if you cant stop! I have NFI on prices either. Would it cost 10K to rebuild a reliable RB26 with a single turbo conversion? say another 8K on on turbos / cams. FMIC etc? Since you dont have to do all the brakes and suspension you would then spend the rest on decent ECU and tuning and all the misc bits and pieces? I would probably go speak the the guys at Hyperdrive. They seem to know nissan engines
  5. We all know the RB26's are a GREAT engine and its something different however you would want decent suspension, better brakes (no point going fast if you cant put the power down, corner and stop!), gearbox / clutch etc You could probably have yourself a reliable engine with decent mods and ecu for 18K?? Nothing too hardcore and then spend the remaining on all the non engine stuff!
  6. Interesting... Any pics of your work and prices might be helpful! I need a professional detail soon!
  7. In one week i got done for: A) 4 pts on the narrows. about 40 kms over. Was lucky it wasnt 6pts. B) 6 pts in a 60 zone. Was going WELL above double the speed limit. I was lucky on this one C) 1 pt for 15kms or so over in a 70 zone. Could have been alot worse, could have ended up in court and yellowed. $700 in fines in under a week. Thankfully that was almost 2 years ago and after loosing my license and i certainly learnt my lessons the hard way. Since then i've only been caught by one camera doing 10 kms over on G.E hwy! Most important thing i've learnt is my attitude... I only have 1 person to blame for all the hassles 1 stupid week caused.
  8. IMHO GC is a tad overated but still great. Was over there for 8 days last week or so! Heaps to do. Shopping is great, night life isnt bad and of course the themeparks!! SeaWorld is GREAT. D/W is ok. Tower of terror and the Big Drop are really high. Higher than you imagine! D/W would be great for a tourist or young kid! Tigers are AWESOME though. Weather was very hot and humid and first, then it rained for the last few days! Depending on what you like, theres so much to do, 4 days isn't enough Hell 4 weeks probably isnt enough time to fit it all in, plus lots of relaxing!! Im sure you will have a ball though!!
  9. I've just upgraded and have a nokia 5210, drop proof, splash proof phone for sale. Solid phone, smallish and often used by tradies Perfect working oder. Cover is getting a bit worn, as you would expect. Make an offer. AFAIK its unlocked. Has taken several sim cards before.
  10. For a slow, charity cruise i saw some very stupid driving... A speed camera, a couple of accidents and some police to make sure things were going to plan made it a reasonable cruise. Hopefully the camera on the freeway didnt claim too many.. A few stupid people around which is to be expected with a cruise this size, i guess. Hopefully everyone raised a decent amount of money for those less fortunate.
  11. hmmmmm Wait to you have a REAL bad day. All car problems become so insignificant. The hassles of work also dissapear, all the other stuff you complain about is forgotton, those small issues in life which you think are huge, arent anymore and then you realise just how lucky you are
  12. Dalcos are very good! Last week i had some minor paint / bodywork done by them and i was impressed with their attitudes. I annoyed them heaps, asked lots of questions and made lots of phone calls. Only one slight misunderstanding, which worked out fine. Reasonable prices as well. I wouldnt call them dirt cheap, but from what i've seen and heard, their work is quality.
  13. Everyone makes stupid choices and parents will always whinge. Its what they do and one day it might just be some of us Making stupid mistakes is how we learn IMO. Them whinging is a sign they care... The choices are A) a parent who doesnt give a shite or B) a parent who is (OVER) protective, cares, all that typical stuff that we all take for granted. My olds have a love hate relationship with my car.... Its too fast, loud, costs to much etc. But they know it makes me happy, so they accept it! Be thankfull they actually care Too often these days alot of parents dont...

  15. Thats the way i look at it now. When bad stuff happens to my car now, of course i get upset, but i look back and realise just how lucky i am to be having these problems... Unless its something fairly serious, i kinda blow it off now. I appreciate life so much more. October has taught me so much more about life. My mind has been opened so much. The rest of the year was crap!! Breaking up with my girl after years, lotsa work hassles, lots of money hassles, car hassles, loss of license etc. Funnily enough it all means very little now. The dreaded C word is one that i hate hearing. All the best to you, your grandad and your family nismogirl. Being strong and staying positive sounds good in theory, however it doesnt always work like that
  16. Yeh mate, it sucks but you realise what lifes all about. All those minor problems go away and every day i wake up and think, i'm so LUCKY and grateful to be able to experience everything i have... Watching the sunset over a beatiful beach in perth really has new meaning. Our glorious summer days, have new meaning. Family and freinds are now closer. When the pannic attacks and stress goes away and going to go help the less fortunate. Telling a mum or dad that their child has been killed in an accident is probably the hardest thing i will ever have to do. On a positive note, i think i may have found a way to make people realise just how horrible car accidents are.. The ad's on TV do very little. They DONT save lives and IMHO never will. If i had a camera on everything i went through last week alone, i dont think it would even be allowed on TV.... It would however, make young guys and girls (just like most of us, me included) think about their driving alot more.
  17. You want something to put things into perspective. My month of October.... Week 1, my mates mum dies of cancer. Its hard watching a 21 y/o mate bury his mum. Work hassles. Week 2 and 3, my GF's grandma dies whilst on holiday in New Zealand. That was tough as the family is fairly close knit and so many hassles with it happening in NZ. More work hassles, as everyone is getting sick of the place. Week 4. I thought stuff it, i'm gonna go get maggot. Have an argument with the missus about being a messy eater (i spilt macca's sunday on my shirt!). Go to sleep and two hours later i get a phone call from my mum.. 3 of my mates, including my 2 best mates, were in a car accident. She has no idea who it was so i ring all the hospitals. 2 of the others can be found and are relatively ok. My best mate for the last 9 years since year 8 was killed, when the unknown 18 y/o driver hit the kerb at 65kms and the car rolled.... So me being very close with his family, i rang his dad at 3am to tell him what had happened. Ohh yeh the police hadnt got their at that stage.... After that my mum picked me up and drove me to the hosiptal, to see my other mates. That was just the beginning of the week.... It got worse. I get mild pannic attacks and i'm so stressed out at the moment (and i dont even believe in stress!!) Try telling a 21 y/o's dad and mum at 3am that their son / your best mate has been killed..... Ohh yeh and just last nite i get a knock on the door around 1.30am. Was our neighbour.. His next door neighbour and a VERY close family freind is having breathing troubles and had litterally almost died. 3 hours later, we got home from the hosiptal and all looks ok Massive respect to all the police, firies and ambo officers that have been of HUGE assistances this last month. It sucks to here about your car but least the guy was honest and your baby will be sorted out. Expect delays tho, remember it IS the auto industry!!
  18. If you have to go to court and get busted you will probably loose your license for 6 months at least. DD charge, p plater etc, doesnt look good. Especially in such a short amount of time. If you HONESTLY werent speeding then fight it, but only two people know the truth i guess. If you were, accept responsibility. If you werent, get a lawyer!! Yoy license will actually be cancelled because your on your p's and you will have to go thruough the process again....
  19. HAHAHA, your an idiot mate. $500 is pretty good for a personal plate!! Some command 3K+ BTW, how many times did a fullsikwrx hand you chop :bahaha: Hows the car hunt coming along. Any luck??
  20. Thanks guys, i will call J/C and Famous soon. A few people have said dont bother wih the insurance brokers... Riaz when i rang HBF i told them and they said they had no probs. I guess it all depends on who you speak to. I'm lucky that in a way it will be a bit easier seeing as im 21, higher NCB with an aussie delievered 4 dr (rather than skyline etc). Its just i lost quiet a few pts in a short space of time (only 2 fines though). If i hadnt lost my license i would have NO problems. I didnt get done for Dangerous driving etc Whats worrying though is that theres litterally thousands of people who are in the same situation and probably driving around uninsured.
  21. As we all know insurance threads are constantly popping up but this ones a little different, to the usual "im 17 looking at a R33, will i get insurance etc" Last year i purchased a wrx and pretty much lost my license (ran out of demerit points) in the first month or two (STUPID speeds which im not real proud of, but when your young AND STUPID....). Fortuneately i learnt from my mistakes! Anyway RAC was happy to insure me (was 20 at the time with 20% NCB). Insurance wasnt a huge hassle and only around 2K. I told them about the fines and loss of license but after they sent me out the renewal (for about $400 less) they decided they didnt want to deal with me again...... They dont insure people who are under 25 that have lost their license and drive turbo or the more expensive cars apparently!!! I can now understand why so many people drive around with no insurance. Theres probably thousands of people who are under 25 and lost their license for drink driving, speeding, dangerous driving etc. So basically i have 10 days to find a new insurance company that will insure a 21 y/o with 30% NCB and an aussie delievered turbo car with a bit of a bad driving record... Planning on ringing around tomorrow (HBF said they would for $1,700 a few weeks back) but i was wondering if its worth going through an insurance broker? I knwo its not going to be easy, however, it will be done as im NOT driving a 25K+ car uninsured or only 3rd party! I know a few guys here havent got the best records and are insuring a turbo import... So basically wil insurance brokers have more luck than myself?? What are some good ones? Ones to steer clear of etc Any advice would be much appreciated!! cheers mat
  22. Having owned and driven lots of both, if you actually sit back and look at things then you realise both are awesome cars! But comparing them is like comparing apples to oranges..... IMHO you cant compare a MY94-MY00 to a GTR. Different price ranges and the standard rex is equal to the GTST. Personally i took the rex, AFTER the skyline and my rex is quicker / newer/ better handling. Thats not to say the skyline wasnt just as nice. Maybe a tad slower (0.5-7sec over 1/4) but both had there advantages AND disadvantages. Both are great cars for the money and offer heaps of fun. Neither are perfect! If i had my way i would have the STI, 34 GTR and the EVO 8 in the garage And lets leave the MY01+ outta this. Subaru have gone down hill big time, especially since the MY03 Ugly cars arent they
  23. Sorry mate, i probably came across a bit full on, but it wasnt meant to sound like that Just trying to say that ships are bloody hard to steer!!
  24. Have you had any REAL LIFE experience steering big boats (say 60-70ft) or actual ships?? Its totally different to turning a car or avoiding a truck etc. Try turning a 100m long ship carrying hundreds of heavy sea containers through rough weather, 20m waves and 40knt winds. Sometimes crashes cant be avoided...
  25. Surprisingly its fairly easy for larger ships to collide. Problem is that they are very hard to manouvre. You just cant turn them around or stop, it can take a long distance (kilometres) Often they come across each others path's at fairly late notice and in heavy seas, or fog its all over. In really heavy seas its possible to loose sight of big ships very easily. Commercial ships are alot different to control than a small tinny or even a 60ft charter boat!
