Divings awesome but deep sea fishing sucks!! If your gonna travel that far out you mite as well catch something that you can feel on the end of the line. The FAD's are the place to be in summer. Dolphinfish, tuna, wahoo, marlin etc. Heaps better than dhuies and small snapper :-) But if you guys want to hire a boat to head to rotto and surrounding areas to go diving and / or fishing let me know as i have a few contacts that could make things alot easier and cheaper. Cheers Mat

G'day 25GTT. Cool well count me in. I dont have a clue with what im doing though. I dont want to be massive (already have a big frame so thats good) i just want to tone up and get a half decent stomach and arms and i guess other fairly simple stuff. Just want to convert a bit of "cuddliness" to muscle!! What sort of start up fees and similiar costs am i looking at. I would mainly go in the mornings (Due to work) but the north beach and kingsway ones arent all that far away! But yeh im keen! Cheers Mat

A5h you should just do what YOU want dude. If you dont go overboard then you shouldnt have a problem. Alot of people will think its rice but who cares. You own a great car. Chances are, most of the people who will say stuff own a POS! People are always going to hang shit on your car, no matter what you do to it! As for the cops. I wouldnt drive around with them on all the time but if you dont drive like a dickhead you shouldnt have a problem with the police at all. Cheers Mat

Who cares what people think about your car mate. There will always be someone who will bag your car no matter what you do. If you wanna whack neons on your car, then you should. As long as your car's got a bit of credibility, then you should be ok! I would go neons over a key or petrol cap anyday.....

curious - bargaining down dealers
docile replied to pasey25's topic in General Automotive Discussion
When i was looking around in perth (and still am to an extent) most werent prepared to start negotiating till the cash was on the table. I was looking to spend around 24K and although the places i looked at werent really willing to go down in price they were willing to install an alarm or turbo timers etc in the price. However have you ever been to a car yard on a sunday. they often have sunday prices (ie $2000 off) "if you buy today" so i would think if your serious they could do this any day... -
My name is Mat and im one of the very few non IT guys. I work at Woolworths and surprisingly they pay me really well!! In the past i've done a bit of fishing writing and photography (web and magazine based), which will be built on in time...

Thanks 33spec2. They seem like pretty decent people (attitudes will affect where i spend my money too) On a side note, I had my first drive in a turbo skyline today. With minor mods it flew. So quick (by my standards anyway). It seems so drivable too. I know its not massive amounts of power, but i would much rather drive that, than my bro's 5lt stato! He estimates around 230rwhp and i'd be more than happy with that. Off to see Jash at C-Red on Monday and then i have to make the decision! Cheers for all the help, its been great Mat

Just got a quick question. Ok we all have a fair idea of what the new import laws may bring by now, however i cant figure this bit out. I've asked but i dont think the people i've asked so far have understood what i meant... Maybe i havent explained it properly! If say, people like C-Red (for example) already sell modified cars are they still allowed to sell those SAME cars (eg: in his "yard" now) in the same condition after the new rules come into play or will they have to put them back to stock? I hope that comes out right! LOL Cheers Mat

LOL 160 on the freeway isnt overly fast and can be 100% safe (ok hands up here who's driven at 130+ on freeway late at night....ohh wait a minute, were all saints lol) however i agree with you and you can drive at 160 and be all over the road and then that becomes very dangerous. I used to go see my (ex) girlfriend on a wednesday night and because she lives in armadale the easiest way to get home was on the freeway. After the drags, u get all the P platers and stuff trying to race etc. Thats when things can get very dangerous and down right stupid. It all boils down to the driver. We all learn to change gears properly and stuff in our driving lessons but how many of us actually learnt to handle a car properly?? Why arent the government doing anything about this if they think its so important to drive safe??

I've had a look at bently auto's and skippers and to be honest neither appealed to me. Skippers seemed to want unrealistic prices for the cars they had (no flames, just my opinion). They did have nice cars tho, just not what im after. They didnt really seem that helpful either, but i could have got them on an off day. Jash PM sent.. Mat

Hmmm speed on country roads isnt the biggest killer. Have a look at the crosses on the side of the road next time you head down south. I would bet money on it that most of them were caused by a) falling asleep at the wheel or B) loosing concentration etc. FATIGUE Sometimes education works but sometimes it doesn't. What happens when a normal 18 y/o gets in to his first car with a group of mates. They show off (mainly speed and stupid stuff like thrashing it round corners the wet etc). We've all done it and no amount of education would have stopped us. Most people are lucky and nothing too serious happens, however on the odd occasion it does and unfortuneately for the people involved, they often pay the highest price. Driving around in ANY car is like walking around with a loaded gun. Its up to YOU whether you pull the trigger... Better driver education would be great and things like advanced and defensive driving courses should be compulsory. Driving lessons are fairly expensive and they really only basically teach you to DRIVE a car and do stupid things like "finding an address". Maybe if they payed a little more attention to handling a car in the wet, or what happens when you lock up your brakes we would have better drivers on the road. Something has to be done or things will get way out of hand in future years.

Thanks guys. I havent been able to test drive any yet... A couple of the dealers have said no because they think i only want to have a thrash in their cars and one bloke said i look like i might want to mug him etc! Its not like i look scary.... Im going to have a top 2 or 3 list of dealers ( i think i know the three though) and then ask them for test drives etc. If they say no, i'll take my money somewhere else! Ohh yeh when i test drive any car i'll get my old man to come along and hopefully we'll manage to leave the dealer behind... Hes a mechanic by trade so he knows how cars should drive etc. My old man picks cars to peices with a fine tooth comb and when it comes to internals i will just get a non biased proper import mechanic to have a look etc. If the dealers have nothing too hide, then it shouldnt be a problem for them. One yard wouldnt let me get a mechanic to have a look at their cars... Thats suss I've only had one semi negative comment (first hand) about E/M and a few very good PM's. Off to see Jash on Monday i hope and i shall take it from there! Thanks again for all the help, its been a massive help. Cant wait for the next cruise or two! Cheers Mat

Well, in my continuing search for a mad car i went and had a look at "Extreme Machines" on Saturday morning (I didnt think C-Red would be open, so i went and had a look there instead). So far i've been to a few places and i plan to visit them all (no matter how good or dodgy they are) within the next couple of weeks. I just want speak to and annoy as many people as i can to get the info i need to buy an awesome car. They didnt seem too bad and were quite helpful. Their cars seemed in pretty good condition... So again im looking for some more information. Anyone bought a car off them or ever dealt with them before? If so how did you find them, their service, their cars etc. Maybe a PM if need be... Its alot of money for me to spend so i just want to get the best car i can for my money.. Thanks again for the help Cheers Mat

Hi all. First post whoretown, so be gentle please. Quick intro i guess. Names Mat and i within next month or so i will have a r33 in the garage!! yay. So yeh, g'day i guess! Kyles, Rather than hire the equipment have you thought about doing a SCUBA course through PDA or something. It works out really well and they provide gear and you get a couple of pool dives and some dives over at rotto if your lucky! mat

Hey fellas....car buying decisions...*sigh*
docile replied to a topic in General Automotive Discussion
Honesty is a very good trait in people! Most 17-18 y/o's i know would never say say the couldnt control a car! Im not saying you shouldnt go buy a decent car as a first car (2 guys i know got R32 GTR's as first cars (rich parents in these cases)) its just that going from learning in some driving instructors excel to driving a skyline is a big step. If your mature enough then by all means go buy a skyline or 180sx, take some driving courses (may help with insurance too) and enjoy a great car. If you know you would be tempted to thrash the shit out of it, i wouldnt bother. Also LISTEN to your parents and what they say. Sure they will worry about you in a powerful car etc, however they will know if your the sort of person to do stupid stuff.... Take my 18 y/o brother as example. He wanted a nice car to attract the girlies and brag to mates so he bought a V8 Commodore. He got the loan approved (was a 20K car, so a pretty nice one) and on the first day of driving he went through two sets of tyres! Next day he blew the gearbox.... The cars being hammered and thankfully he's lost his license and started to mature a little bit. He finally realises that he should have bought a gemmy first, to thrash around in. Having no driving experience is not really a problem if you have the right ATTITUDE. A skyline would be a great first car as long as you dont want to go out and thrash it every friday and saturday night. If you do, then no doubt you'll end up in the shit. Mat -

Hey. I was in a similiar situation to you when i first turned 18. I really wanted a 180sx, but realistically i couldnt even afford the car, let alone the insurance. Drove around in an EA falcon for a while, then a brand new corrolla and then i bought an XF falcon. Also got to get a fair bit of driving experience in V8 commy's. Anyway two years later i can now genuinely afford a decent car. Im now looking for a car and i can afford to spend 23-25K before insurance. Was it worth. Hell yes 180's are great cars, but kinda small and a little less practical than a skyline. I would love a 180sx but i need some comfort and room! Lifes tough when you have to make choices like these!! Buy a shit car, get some driving experience, save some more money and get a better car in a years time! Mat -
Thanks for the PM's guys. All this sort of info is a massive help! Cheers guys Mat
-
Haha thats what i figured..... Alright for those who dont have to work this weekend!! Pacey: Where did you end up buying your car from, if thats ok??
-
Thanks Jash. I probably wont be able to get down and say g'day until easter is over, Unless your open Good friday... or easter monday!! I heard some more good things about you guys, today at work (woolworths of all places), so yeh things will start to settle down after easter so i will definitely come and see you. cheers mat

Hey guys. Thanks for the info and the welcome. I've got a while up my sleeve, so having a look around is no problems. I know i could get a better deal with a private sale, but having a bit of fallback is probably worth it (its alot of money for me!). I wont go over 24k unless i really, really have to! Looking around there are some very dodgy cars available from some very dodgy people. When i went to up to Autoworx, they had a bit of a chat and didnt really try to sell me a car (which was a good thing). They seemed pretty genuine and did have some very nice cars. I had another look at a few cars on sunday (which could narrow the "bigger" yards down a bit...) and one seemed to have awful cars in awful condition, while the other had very unrealistic prices, for ok cars (nothing special though) I will definetly come round and have a chat Jash. Is it cool if i just come in to have a look, get some info etc? Your cars look good and i've heard some very good things from people! My old man is a pretty experienced (ex) mechanic, with heaps of knowledge about old school V8's, but he knows bugger all about jap turbos etc. When buying my current car (XF falcon) it took ages to find a car that was in the best condition for the right money. He saved me a heap of money and now i have a good run around car thats in immacualate condition with 150K's on the clock! Hes picky when it comes to cars, which is great in the end, but we will definitely get a proper import mechanic to have a look. One thing i noticed though, In the majority of the cars i've looked at is that the "boots" (i think thats what their called?) around the handbrake are torn / ripped. In some cases the rest of the interior seems in pretty good nick. Is this a common problem? I guess it wouldn't really matter, would it? I'm thinking it would be easy enough to replace? Thanks for the help Cheers Mat
