What Brake Pads To Get, Front Only.
limpus replied to WogsRus's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Jetpilot1986...how dusty are the lucas pads? are they worse than the bendix ultimates? -
By more boost aparently they meant something close to 50psi!!! INSANE!!!
-
Is that 300rwhp or 300hp at the engine? i'm guessing if you say its in your engine bay then its at the engine? Because if thats the case it seems alittle low for a GT-RS on a rb25...i was just wondering and not having a go at you... 1 bar is just creeping up into that turbo's efficiency range...whack it up to 1.2-1.3 and she'll come alive...tightening the wastegate should not have an effect on peak power as you max boost should be controlled by the PFC boost controller...however...there should be enough preload on the actuator to hold the wastegate flap firmly shut...
-
Well...the coils might not be firing at optimum and hence spark would still be weaker...with the dump pipe and any other mods your boost levels would have come up slightly too...with an issue like yours...8 out of 10 times the culprit would be plugs with too big a gap...try something with a gap of about 0.8...for a rb20...i'd run bcpr6es or bcpr6e plugs...they are already pregapped to 0.8...give it a go...

What Brake Pads To Get, Front Only.

I have heard good things about TRW Lucas pads...they are apparently rated at about 100 degrees higher than the bendix ultimates (which are pretty ordinary and very dusty to me and also chew up rotors)...i'm not sure how dusty the Lucas pads are though but they are apparently alot kinder to rotors too... -
T88 or T51 for response!!! Seriously...search...or listen to sloutch...he's a really really really "knows" what he's talking about...lolz...

Cryo Treating A Rb20 Gearbox
limpus replied to limpus's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thanks for ya input Nismoid...it was just an idea...if it was going to cost more than $600 or so all up then perhaps not...although with a 25 box in my 32 i'd have to sort out the tailshaft and then theres the minor issue of the speedo too which would add to cost...there might be other things to sort out too but i'm not sure...any more feedback would be appreciated...cheers... -
I have both...a pod hidden in the factory airbox...fine for daily driving...and then i rip the cover off for the track...i have done a dyno run with cover on and off but as it has been mentioned before...its still not a real world test... And if all else fails...go grab a whore off a street corner and nick her pantyhose...

I found a good cheap boost controller for $22!!!
limpus replied to CEF11E's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I'm running one of these with a hks actuator and with almost no preload on the ball it makes around 15psi...with preload and adjusting it i get about 18psi with a 2-3 psi spike in 4th gear...i guess its because i'm using a longer hose with the valve and also because it is a mechanical system and it takes time to stabilize... -
Hey guys, Has anyone ever cryo treated a rb20 gearbox to strengthen the gears? I have a spare box sitting on the garage floor which might be a good candidate for cryo treating...i know it will never be as strong as a rb25 box but at less than half the price i was wondering if it would be a feasible idea...i was looking to use the box behind a worked rb20 or maybe a mild tuned rb25 in the future...a rb25 box would be at least $1000 and if i'm not mistaken i'd be able to cryo treat the gears and shaft in the rb20 box for less than $500...what do you guys think?

Finally! Testing The Hks 2510..... Whats Your Guess
limpus replied to new blood's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
I guess it boils down to how much power you want and how much you want to spend...personally i recon a 2535 would be awesome for a rb23...and be good to around 220-240rwkw with pretty decent response... -
New Fuel Pump And Turning The Car On

Chill mate...its a common problem with the 040s...happens to quite a few of us...as mentioned...let it prime and then crank... -
Likely Hood Of Blocked Cat? {update With Pics!}
limpus replied to tek_01's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
^^^ The metalcat cats have been known to collapse on themselves...the catco ones have also had a problem where the whole internal structure comes loose and causes a rattle sound...does not affect performance though unlike the metalcat one...but i have to say that my metal cat works a treat...just hope it stays in one piece.... -

Does anyone think that the opening to that cat doesn't look 3" at all? -
Whereabouts would i be able to get a new radiator cap for my car? what specs or part no. should i be looking for? Cheers...

Dyno Results And Over Boosting Issue
limpus replied to Simon-S14's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
In your opinion...how much preload would be too much? -
Then you have your answer...

Nice write up...and valid points too with regards to sizing which i agree with...theres one more factor though...how about the restriction of the charge flow inside the core... In the end...and this is my opinion only so feel free to disagree with me as i'm sure lots of people will...a fmic while not necessary is still beneficial...even on a stockish car...also...i find it hard to believe that a car with a reasonable (not oversized) fmic will be slower than the same car with the standard smic...this is from personal experience so take what you will from it...
-
Sounds like wastegate rattle to me...have a go at doing what these guys have said... Also...if its meant to last till your build is done...the bee*r limiter might not be a good idea...

That seems like a reasonable workshop price...if it includes a genuine gasket too and new washers its not bad... As for doing it yourself...there are a few factors to consider... How competent are you at mechanical work and are you familiar with doing turbo swaps? Do you have all the required components? Do you have the proper tools for the job? Most of the turbo swaps i have done over the past 2-3 years have gone pretty smoothly as i used to be a mechanic so i know enough about what i'm doing plus i have access to a extensive range of tools...they are still fiddly jobs at times if things don't go smoothly...so if your answer to any of the above questions is no then i think its a good idea to let someone else do it...but he's gotta be competent as well...seem some dodgy turbo installs done by supposed professionals... Whatever your choice is...good luck...
