  1. but if there's no oil in the sump, how are baffles going to help. I guess you mean there is still some, but without baffles it is distributed over the whole sump and hence the level is too low near the pickup?
  2. excuse the ignorance, but what is the connection between shift revs and sump baffles?
  3. My civic went well ... but we ran out of brakes at one stage, and of course didn't bring any spares for the day. So we ran around Goulburn looking for pads. Supercheap didn't have any, but they had ones that were roughly the right size. So we bought those, and an angle grinder, and "made" them fit. :alien: At least we got back out on the track. The old EB2 Civic has IIRC, a T28 running 13psi boost. In a car weighing about 700kg, that means fast!!!!! At its last 1/4mile run at WSID, it got a 12.8. I was lucky enough to have a drive on the day, and oh my god ... that much power was never meant to be put through the front wheels. Especially since he had just blown up the gearbox, and had replaced it with another but without LSD. It was scarrryyyy!!! And because of the short wheelbase, it is twitchy as all hell when braking hard. Pedal placement was a nightmare ... all offset to the left, and for me to reach the pedals comfortably, I had to sit disturbingly close to the wheel ... I guess not a problem for others, but I didn't start off feeling comfortable. Unfortunately, the old civic trashed its diff, so was still at the track when we locked up ... waiting for the tow truck. On another topic, was the green S14 yours Carlo, or a mate of yours? What happened to it?
  4. Thanks Carlo, hope you enjoyed the day. What did you think was "interesting" about scruting? Unfortunately, we didn't get our minimum numbers on the day, so lost about $800. Would be interested in hearing any suggestions on how to get more people along. Not sure whether we can afford to run another one.
  5. Hmmmm ... Duncan, I'm sure that thread says more about Skyline owners than Honda ones.
  6. I think they're all show & dyno cars. Too fragile for racing :uh-huh:
  7. Hehehe. Yep ... that's them. Why do skylines seem to always be on the brakes. It's a bit distracting when you're passing slower cars to have their brake lights always flashing you. At least they're courteous enough to pull over when they see a real car approaching. In case that's not clear ... maybe it's time to refresh yourself with the results: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....05/2003.WAKE.S1 :bahaha: :D (oh god, what have I got myself into?)
  8. Hmmm ... your math has gone awry somewhere. Torque peak was 173 lb ft ... ~ 234 Nm. Still not turbo-like, but nothing to sneeze at.
  9. Who needs a turbo with performance like this: http://www.vtec.net/articles/view-article?...ticle_id=101836 For those that can't be bothered following the link, it's a new ITR engine (4cyl, 2.0L, NA) making 260 WHP with more to come I'm having second thoughts about posting this in the lion's den. Ahhhh ... you only live once
  10. Better than *feared*, but not better than hoped for. We lost around $1500 holding the day.
  11. No ... and I'm pretty dissappointed about that! Too busy collecting money, flagging and all that sort of sh*t. And while I know you're joking Duncan, for the record, my stock ITR (DC2R or old one for the uninitiated) does low 12s with semis (I was hoping to say 11s ... I'm close, but not quite there yet). Of course track conditions play a big part in good times. And they weren't the best on the day (not bad in the arvo, but still cold). How did your race go Duncan?
  12. The weather was very kind ... the whole morning session was wet, with light sprinkling for most of the time. But that gave everyone a chance to play in the rain. The whole of the afternoon was dry ... and the track dried up pretty quickly. Good since we were timing the afternoon. Results can be seen here: http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results....05/2003.WAKE.S1 A report from one of the entrants, with pics available here: http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?s...&threadid=81618
  13. No probs. Just turn up on the day, and you'll be accepted, as long as there are spots left. I believe we currently have 24 entrants. Not catastrophic, but still lower than desired (35-40). Note that there is a late fee of $10 if you enter on the day. Regards, Richard
  14. Well, we've currently got more than 10, but basically we are paying for the whole day, so we'll use the whole day regardless of how many people we have. Unless of course everyone gets sick of it and wants to go home
  15. Rain or no rain, we'll be going ahead. If it's raining, then you'll at least get some practice of handling your car at the limit in the rain. Hopefully you learn your car & tyre limits in the rain *before* you need it on the road. Given the ability of forecasters to predict weather, I prefer them to predict it will be raining.
  16. No problem with that. I suggest calling Adrian (whose address is on the form) before going there. I'll also let him know to expect your call. His numbers are: (02) 9487 3729 & 0417 411 006 Thanks, Richard
  17. GM's correct ... jeans & cotton business shirt are perfect. Leather shoes (business shoes) are good. But alternatives will be accepted. We are actually going to relax the bonnet tie-down requirement, but it is still recommended that you use one. As for the extinguisher, you really don't need one. If you want to install one, then the simplest idea is to make a bracket that sits between the passenger seat rails i.e. use the bolts on the seat rails to secure the exting bracket. This is simple to do if you have the right tools (usually welding required) and can easily be done for a small fee at a fabrication shop ... sorry, I don't have any particular place in mind. The other good thing is that it doesn't require you to drill holes or otherwise damage your car and can be removed without trace. benm: did you get scared off by the Word docs? It's a serious question because normally a simple track day doesn't have these sorts of docs. It is intentionally based on a standard CAMS supersprint format. The idea was to make people that had already been on the track more familiar (and hopefully comfortable) with the idea of taking that next step ... into a competition supersprint. We are a little worried that it might scare people away if they aren't interested in the competition thing. Of course I want to stress that this track day is *not* a competition, rather more like a rehearsal. At this stage, we have very few entrants that have pre-registered. About 15 I think. Since we require around 40 people to break even, we are going to make a big loss. Thankfully the club (HCC NSW) has enough in the bank to cover the day with the current entry levels. So we will not be cancelling now. But it would still be appreciated if people intending on coming at least let us know. We expect to get quite a few people turning up on the day, but it still stresses me out If you are free on the day benm, at least come down. By mid-morning you'll be kicking yourself for not entering. So if your car is in decent condition, just do it! :burnout:
  18. Just a reminder that the date for this event is fast approaching. If you are interested in entering, please read the post at the top of this thread and send in your entry form or contact one of organisers above. Places are filling up, so don't delay! Regards, Richard
  19. I have 2 answers for this. The polite one ... no you can use a CAM L2S or higher, or Wakefield license. Either are acceptable. The not so polite one ... it's all described in the Supp Regs. All of this and more. The spirit of the day is not a competitive, bet your house on it, kind of day. It is more one of fun and a chance to learn what your car can do in relative safety. Having said that, the 2nd half of the day will be timed and a little regimented like a formal supersprint. We are running the day under a Wakefield permit, and that allows us certain flexibilities. e.g. we don't *require* a fire extinguisher, but you will be expected to have secondary bonnet ties. I noticed that there's a Mopro round on the same weekend. Bummer. Not intentional Duncan, really
  20. I've posted in the Events forum: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/sh...&threadid=12305 Richard
  21. On behalf of the Honda Car Club NSW, I have pleasure in inviting members of Skylines Australia to our next Track Day, Saturday 17 May 2003 at Wakefield Park. The morning will be like previous HCC Driver Training Days, with the track available for you to practice, and instructors available to ease your way onto the circuit. The afternoon will be held as a timed supersprint. You will be able to see just how well you’re driving! Compare your times with your friends! Safety is the number one priority, but fun comes a close second. Plenty of attention is given to first-timers, so don’t be afraid to give it a go. Cost: HCCNSW Members $100 Non-members $120 For more info, call any one of: Adrian 0417 411 006 David 0403 195 124 Michael 0422 443 686 Richard 0410 664 140 Download the Supplementary Regulations and Entry Form here: * http://www.hccnsw.org.au/events/regs/2003-...ms_suppregs.doc * http://www.hccnsw.org.au/events/regs/2003-...hccms_entry.doc Richard Colley President, Honda Car Club NSW
  22. Wakefield or CAMS Level 2S or better will be accepted. I'll post more info in Events in the next day or two. We've always had a good turnout from the Skyline guys ... look forward to seeing some of you there.
  23. Yep, instructors still available. Are you interested in being an instructor?
  24. Ok ... I'll get it posted there. Brief summary: Saturday 17 May. Wakefield. Half day track day + half day timed mini sprint. What do you think of the format? As for my engine, I'd spun a big-end bearing (#3) and associated damage. It's all fixed now, and I'm babying it a bit for a while (it's only just been run-in now). But it's so hard to avoid entering events in it. I really need to pull my finger out and get a race car to thrash around. BTW, are you racing this year?
  25. That's not very nice, Duncan! At least you could express some sorrow. Only kidding. It's good to see you guys are getting your act into gear. I actually stumbled across this message while trying to work out where to send an invite to the next Honda Car Club drive day. Is there a SAU club captain? Richard President - Honda Car Club NSW
