Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them
PSI_GTSII replied to ZigenGT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Have'nt driven the GTR for a while now as the Steel belts are hanging out on the rear, so finally rang around a few tyre places today. I like the idea of Federals 595 range, but still unsure which way to go for my car which probably will see 5000kms per year including maybe 4 competitive track events. 595-ss Treadwear 240 245/40/18 = $255 ($1020) 265/35/18 = $320 ($1280) 595-rs Treadwear 180 265/35/18 = $470 ($1880) I have approval from the Mrs to go for the 595-rs's, after some....urm...discussion! and they would look horn, but are they worth it for a handfull of competive events, or would the 595-ss's be 90% as good for 50% of the money? What do you guys reckon...? -
The Brakes on an R32 GTR are probably its weakest link. Even from my Track day around Barbagello they felt as though they only slow you down rather than stop you. The GTRs ran the 296mm 4 pot Nissan calipers as this was all that would fit behind the standard 16" rims, which were required to be fitted for Group A regulations. Once the Group A rules were relaxed a little the V Spec came out with the 17s so as to accomodate the Brembos

I have 32 GTR..? Mine is 'totally' standard except: GT2560R Turbos's Greddy/ Trust Dumps and Front Pipe Jasma 3" Exhaust It has no boost control but has had restrictor removed, so boosts to just on 14psi, it was dynoed at Hyperdrive and produced 315rwHP @14psi I ran it at the Motorplex and it ran a 12.6 @ 113mph (182kmh), this was with a very easy start as this is all the clutch would handle without slipping (Hence 2.1 60fts) FWIW, I went and watched a SAU Drag night about 6months ago there were about 4 R32GTRs racing that night all of them ran around the 13.5 mark at 160kmh...so go figure

What Were You Looking For When You Bought Your Car?
PSI_GTSII replied to Nizmo's topic in Western Australia
I have become somewhat of a 'Factory Performance' nut of late....meaning I like to keep my cars looking as close to factory as possible whilst increasing the performance as much as possible. Most of the time I know what I do and dont like as soon as I see it. So when buying my GTR this meant anything with aftermarket bodykit was out. Crap Jap aftermarket wheels were a negative. Multitude of dodgy Jap guages etc screwed to dash big no no. Overly modified engines, with single or High mount turbos...not interested. Basically I think you know the type of GTR I mean...big T wing on boot, dodgy aftermarket front Bumper, Tri Spoke wheels, Pool Ball as Gearknob etc etc.... I was stoked when my GTR came up for sale...although originally wanting a Silver one, I was happy with the Black, as it had a very straight Body, very clean 'Unmodified' interior and a few mods that I actually loved ie R34 GTR wheels (in keeping with my Factory theme ) and a 3" exhaust. I have made a few mods since recieving the car such as Momo Steering Wheel and Gearknob but will continue to keep my GTR looking as Factory as possible (inside, Outside and under the bonnet) so when (if) I do come to sell it should be easier -
Best guess just over 300rwHP and a flat 13 qtr

Hmmmm...would now be a good time to mention I have also got her 'Up the Duff'...!..? Still the upside to all of this is the Governments current $4000 baby bonus.....I could get my PFC yet!....although she seems to think we'll need the money for Nappies....Bah....I 'need' more HP....nappies can wait

wrong RB30e = Non Turbo RB30ET = Turbo The D = DOHC

Thanks dood.....but the 4G I spent on the ring was my PFC etc for the GTR
-
The Mrs Bought me this the other day which was a nice surprize http://www.pitstop.net.au/pitstop/plu/15732 (Although I did spend just over 4G on an engagement ring for her so it was the least she could do really! ) Anywho, Only had a quick flick thru at this stage but looks well presented, and has lots of info, most of it you'll probably already know, buts its nice to have it in hard copy form

Was that the 'Jeremy Clarksons Motorworld' Japan episode? If so I believe Jeremy quite liked the 32 GTR but said the dash board looked like it had been sculptured from a solid piece of plastic. Topgear have also done a review on buying a 2nd hand GTR, with the 32, 33 and 34 all making an apperance

Makes no difference how many cars you have in your name, I have 3 atm, the problem is you become classified a dealer when you buy and sell a certain amount of vehicles within a 12 month period Heres my Daily drivers. 2002 NM Pajero GLS 2002 TJ Magna Advance I find for daily drivers I always try to buy late model vehicles from Auction, mostly Pickles, and update every few years. This way you have reliable transport, and do not lose much money at all when updating. The Magna I have had for 2 1/2 years now, I paid $11750, slapped $2000 of wheels and suspension on it (even though its a daily it has to look good, and be individual!), it literally has 'not' cost me a cent, I should still be able to sell it for between 10-11G, meaning I have lost about $1000 per year which is pretty good. I will soon update it to the 'Ugly' 04 TL Style Magna which with 50'000kms are going thru auction currently at $12'000 and again slap the 18's etc on it. The Paj I picked up from Pickles in Sydney for $20'000 around 8 months ago, it is our family vehicle and mainly gets used on weekends, cost $1100 to truck from Sydney.

If it is your valve stem seals this would be the cheapest fix of all the Oil burning related engine problems The valve stem seals themselves are only a few dollars, but its still fairly time consuming removing and replacing them all. Best Guess $400.....?
-
Normally its the Valve stem seals that are stuffed when you start the car and it blows blue smoke. If the seal is stuffed around the valve then overnight or over a period of time oil leaks down on top of the Piston creating a nice pool of oil for the morning when you start it up hence the puff of blue smoke. However the oil leak is not enough to notice once that initial oil has burnt, and you wont notice any blue smoke when you drive.....until you leave it turned off for a long enough period and the oil builds up again.

Dont judge the tint you want from Pictures, because as everyone knows who has tint on there car the apparent darkness of the tint can vary heaps depending on the light conditions / Camera angle at the time. Heres a couple of pics of my GTR and Pajero, the GTR has a 30% tint the Pajero a 15% tint, in the pics they are very similar yet in real life the Pajero is alot darker to look at even though there is a lot more Glass area. Best to go into the tint shop and look at a few cars there for an idea (they should have some) FTR, I have no problems seeing at night with the 15% tint, I have had the 5% tint before and will not again as it really hard / impossible to see down side streets (or anything for that matter that is not well lit!) BTW, The people talking about 'Metallic tints' are refering to the base of the tint, I dont think anyone sells 'Cellolose' based tints anymore, you will know these as the ones that turn purple and bubble when they get old!, pretty much everything sold these days is a 'Metallic' based tint

Roughly: 1330mm Across the top 1300mm Across the rear

I have 30% on my Black GTR to save any hassles with Police mainly, although is a little light for my liking. And have 15% on my Daily driver Pajero and Magna which is perfect ie Hard to see into but easy to see out, and not overly dark for police attention (although illegal) Do not go 5% as it really is impractical to see out of at night and 'looks' illegal
-
I guess the thought is always in the back of your mind that something could go wrong and theres never a 'good' time financially to have to repair something. When I bought my GTR I had a fair bit of spare cash left over, so decided to replace a few GTR weak links before I blew the money! ie New Turbos, Timing Belt etc. My car is not a daily driver so if something blows it is not imperative to have it fixed straight away which is good. I am not planning to spend anymore money on it until I sell my house around Xmas time, when I will try to keep 10G aside (without the Mrs noticing!) to finish it off how I always wanted it ie twin plate clutch, PFC etc But most importantly will limit rwHP to the 400 mark so as to keep it reliable and hopefully avaid any costly rebuilds.

No..... The only thing that would sway me into buying a Radar detector (Again!) would be if I did a lot of country driving, as mentioned before the Country cops still use the old gutter mount style radar, and as most of them are left on most of the time they are very easy to detect. Around town Multinovas are your main worry, and I cannot put up with all the 'falsing' that radar detectors give you around town. From my experience (2 x Unidens & 1 x Bel) they do not detect multinovas until the multinova is triggered....if you are the car triggering the multinova basically you are screwed, hopefully it is a car up the road triggering it so as it gives you a chance to slow down.....but then as the detector has probably beeped at every Maccas and BP servo you've driven past you'll probably ignore the warning anyway...
-
Hmmm..yes they do Got done by one a few months back Country cops still also use a lot of gutter mount radars, which are the easiest of the lot to detect
