  1. Sounds like a challange Let me sort out the misfire I'm getting, then we should go on a (wrx hunting) cruise
  2. I'll vouch for ya, I was there right behind both of them. It wasn't a standing start drag though, rolling start from about 30-40ks. Both of them took it easy off the line, trying to be polite I think, but one thing led to another and before you knew it, it was on. I was right behind Hicks when they went, but I couldn't fully floor it cause he was holding me up Anyhow, with all the negative vibes coming from Hicks and co towards hsv's, I've pretty much decided to work dads soon-to-be-ordered R8 to run at least mid 13s. Can't have him being embarrased should one of you guys race him, can we?
  3. Maybe sell it for cash+swap for standard ecu? The top secret rom would be a good upgrade for someone who couldn't afford a s-afc but wanted to get rid of the standard ecu timing problems. BTW, you're not greedy for wanting more power. It happens, even to the best of us
  4. If neons and rice is the best way for you to express the love for your car, then I'm glad you stuck with your first choice. And thats the shame of it all.
  5. Thats not what you said. Originally, you implied that Japanese tuners don't bother working RB25's because its an inferior engine, which is bollocks. From what I can tell, Jap tuners will work just about anything that goes round and round. If you want to base engine quality soley on the number of worked examples of that engine, that would make the 350 chev a much better engine than either the RB25 or the SR20. Is it? DON91E, the 98+ RB25 made 206kW, compare late model SR20s with that if you really must. But really, its pointless comparing stock outputs of differently sized engines.
  6. Japanese tuners don't touch what? Bullshit!
  7. Dude, your joking, right?
  8. Don't know the width and height, best I can tell is its 600x300mm and 75mm deep. Made to size by Perfomanz using a tube and fin core to use all space between the indicators. Piping and install by Global Motorworks, across the way from Perfomanz. rob77, I know you're in love with Jap brands, but this is so well made and such good value for money that, like most other Australian gear, it puts Jap brands to shame. Sorry Hicks, Barrie is of "Barries Dyno and Computer Tune Centre" fame. Works with all sorts, from American muscle to Jap performance and does a lot of work for importers on Jap cars straight off the boat. His workshop has a modest apperance but is always full, his rates are great and most importantly, he knows his shit. Barrie is truly a champ. [end plug]
  9. Hicks, like JiMiH said, its an aftermarket clutch. 5-puck ceramic plate with heavy duty pressure plate from The Clutch Factory to be exact. Makes for damn interesting driving :-) If I had to do it again, it'd be going for an Autoclutch 9-puck jobbie, same force distributed over a greater area is slightly easier to drive with. Pulled 280rwhp at Barries Dyno in Queens Park.
  10. Or more than likley, you'll be showing us your tail. In any case, your outta range for the stock turbo award Speaking of fuel pumps, Barrie showed me a Walbro in tank pump yesterday, a bit of a change from Bosch I thought. Seems like a good deal though, flows 195ltr/hr, enough for 500hp for $220 and a higher model available that flows 255 ltr/hr and can handle high pressure. http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/...l/fuelpump.html
  11. Yeah, it really does. Previously, putting the boot in <3000rpm in any gear would have the ecu retarding timing all through the rev range. It was pretty severe, I could feel it as it happened and it was annoying. The only way to really start moving when under 3000rpm was to drop it back a gear (or 2), get it by suprise and really go for it. The intercooler changed all that. Now its eager at all revs, doesn't drop timing or do anything silly, just goes for gold. Heatsoak in the under bonnet intake piping is a big problem though. I can feel it after only a few minutes in traffic. Its becuase of the heat transfer properties of aluminum (piping), good when you're trying to release heat, not so good when you don't want heat. Thermal wrap should help a lot there. 0.95 bar, so around 14psi. Final base timing was set to 18 degrees advance, a couple above what it was previously. Barrie said its as high as we'll be able to take it.
  12. Well, picked up the car from Barries today. Interestingly, the new ic is making the car run even richer than before (crazy factory ecu), so the s-afc is leaning back pretty much across the range. Final readout after tuning was 280rwhp. Putting aside the seemingly high reading, its still a decent 30hp increase over the last time it was on the same dyno, so I'm pretty happy
  13. Agreed.
  14. Because you told me about it.... A few posts back: Since you asked me to keep a look out, I asked Danny for an update on your behalf
  15. rev210, yeah, I guess there are extremes to both strip/street and track/street. Just depends on what the individual is comfortable compromising on. GR33DyMANGO, Danny mentioned he's waiting on parts for your car. Didn't get to see it in the flesh but it seems that wheels are in motion. initialD, yep its in. Wanna come by and take pics with your digi cam? My dv cam sucks at still shots. Picked it up yesterday evening and sent it off this morning to have ignition timing adjusted and the s-afc tuned. Also having the fuel pump checked out - now would be a bad time for it to start failing. I took it fairly easy on the short drive home yesterday, but I noticed straight off that it now makes more power on 7psi, untuned, than it previously did on 10psi, tuned. A good sign for things ahead
  16. While I've never driven on Mickey Thompsons, I can't imagine the soft side walls not being much good for steering response. Thats compromise enough, IMHO. I strongly agree. The thing is, going drag orientated really confuses matters when its time for a turbo change. Before they know it, the drag racer will be running a T60 with spool up time so high they need nitrous just to get off the line. Not an issue if you don't go crazy with turbo sizes, I guess Turbo setup is the kinda area where track and street most overlap. In the both cases, its important to have low transient boost response and a relativley smooth power curve. It no good having a turbo that spins the wheels as it comes on boost, would make cornering pretty difficult. Ignoring matters of skill and common sense, circuit suspension is hard to get right for a street driven car, but it is possible without going rock hard. The problem is ppl who think lower = less roll = better, without really thinking about wheel geometry and the real afftect stiff springs have on the rest of the setup. But when its done right, a mild track car would be much more fun to drive on the street (IMHO) than a drag orientated car. Good point. "Before you fix the car, fix the driver" - MaxAction mailing list. Its the reason I'm not making suspension changes until I can tell theres a definate problem to fix. ie, not until I'm at the cars limit. Probably relevant advice even for a street car
  17. RadiuM, what were you having done to your car, left over compliancing type stuff? GR33DyMANGO, will do rev210, I think the reason why we haven't seen any strip/street 25ts is because it'd be a shame to delegate such a nice handling car to straight line duty. Like adam said, wheres the fun in that. Straight lines don't turn me on all that much, which why I'm leaning towards a track/street mish mash, hopefully the car will be half decent at at least one of them.
  18. 9 flat, also 60' 2.378 330' 6.028 660' 9.043 @ 132.67kph (82.45mph) 1000' 11.613 13.802 @ 166.85kph (103.68mph)
  19. Nah, only 'cooler and tuning this week. Still gotta give the hip pocket a chance to recover Oh, I'm thermo wrapping all under bonnet piping. Should be cheaper than HPC'ing it all. Yeah, it probably could... if it could do a 1.6s 60' like wrx's, evo's and gtr's. Its just not bloody likely without very sticky and very expensive slicks. I'll take your hint and heavily modifiy my boot to accept 3 x 50kg sand bags
  20. Clean on the inside? Yes! Clean on the outside? Not so much. I actaully like it a lot better when my wheels are dirty beyond recognition. Stock wheels blow goats. A big thumbs up to the other points! Seconded! Motion passed? I just gave my car its 6-monthly wash a few weeks ago, so right now its looking about as good as its going to for a while
  21. Excellent, so they're making decent progress. I've been sitting around for 6 days wondering how much was being done BTW, was the car at SSTs workshop or was Steve pointing it out in another workshop? Cause the workshop doing the job (Global Motorworks) is opposite from SST, so I'm not sure what the car's doing at SST, unless they share the load of storing cars. I don't think I'll run down the quarter just yet, have a couple more GoFastBits to bolt on still. I won't try and guess a 1/4 mile time either (I prefer being suprised), but I will say the most I expect from any stock turbo'd 25t is in the region of 13.5x. (Not that I think I can run that ). Sure, its purty, but its not rice if it lets me hand you back your ass adam 32, painting it black isn't a bad idea. Keep all the bozzo's guessing and makes it theif safe.
  22. Bloody hell, RTR is gold! I've got major gripes against listeners of commercial radio stations, but I'll that for another thread .
  23. skyzerr33, which sticker is that, SDU or RTRFM? See, no rice
  24. Patronising aside, I too think that people should do whatever they want to their car. Just, they better be able to handle constructive criticisms from other (offended) owners.
  25. Hey, I'm sure ricers can handle a bit of constructive criticism now and again
