Sorry to say but it's not about police been lazy it's the lack of resorces we have to attend the amount of jobs been given out and how often we are tied up. We can only do one job at a time and I will give you some time frames on how long a job will take us. JUst a couple of regular small offences. Child shoplifter for $2 chocolate: Police tied up for up to 2-3 hours Car accident with drink driver no injuries to anyone: Ties up for 2-3 hours Domestic assault very minor injury: Could take 4-5 hours It's a regular thing that I will get one if not 2 of the above or similiar things most shifts I work meaning no police to attend jobs in my area my whole shift and police from another area will have to be called across to cover if they are not tied up also. I can not explain enough the LACK of police resources it's at a point where we are becoming reactive and not proactive as we are almost never free to patrol and check people.

Redback, you have every right to an opinion I only commented as a member of SAU and Vicpol I try to advocate that SAU members are car enthusiasts not hoons and I don't believe that comments like yours in relation to police help me with that. I am not saying your a hoon at all but if police members read this and see numerous people bagging police do you think they will go lightly on SAU members if intercepted for something and have SAU stickers on your vehicle or fine, epa and nou for anything. It's about trying to give SAU members a responsible reputation.

Yes I am a police officer so I can comment on how much work is involved. In many instances we have tried to impound vehicles and our area supervisors S/SGT's don't allow it unless they decided the offense involved is serious enough. To impond a vehicle will take us about 4-5 hours work with paperwork, processing offender waiting for tows and putting brief of evidence together for court. Not including court time so it's not something done lightly. Impounding vehicles would only help your career if you want to move to TMU which about 99% of members have NO interest in. Otherwise I could issue you with fines, NOU or EPA which would cost the offender more money and time and only take 15 minutes for me. I have given plenty of advice to numerous members on here in relation to police matters and don't go out of my way to give people hard time for minimal issues. I have only impounded one vehicle which was do 70Kmh over speed limit and was a drink driver is that dangerous or serious enough to agree with impounding for you or was I been too harsh. Police do read these forums as you should be aware and I only warned that comments bagging police will only make SAU members appear to be anti police and be more of a target. I have worked hard in my area in bridging the gap between police and car enthusiasts and as many on here have been pulled over by me know that.

Redback I explained the exact wording above in relation to improper use and it's alot of work for police to impound vehicle so unless serious driving offeces as above list have occurred then vehicle would not be impounded. It's poor attitude towards police like yours that make yourselves targets.

The things covered under "Hoon'' Laws. The main thing is Improper Use of a Motor Vehicle which is classified as driving a motor vehicle in a manner which intentionally causes the vehicle to undergo a loss of traction by one or more wheels. Relevant offences are: -Drive whilst disqualified/suspended with prior conviction for that offence committed after 1st July 2007 -Manner/Speed dangerous involving improper use of a vehicle. -Careless Driving involving improper use of a vehicle. -Improper use of motor vehicle. -Organising, managing or engaging in a race or speed trial without authorisation. (Street race) -Exceed speed limit by 45 km/h or more. -Travel at 145 km/h or more in 110 km/h zone. -Undue noise and smoke involving improper use of a vehicle. -Fail to have full control of vehicle involving improper use of a vehicle. There is the list for you, pretty obvious things obviously aimed at people doing burnouts/fish tailing. If you are stupid enough to do any of the above and get caught I don't see how you can be upset having your vehicle seized.

I believe that the bouncer has gone too far, obviously I can understand where he is coming from as I deal with the same drunken idiots also but your never justified to kick someone on the ground. Now I don't know this bouncer but I personally have seen other boucers king hit people just for copping verbal abuse. I have even had one about to fight me and the only thing that saved me been assaulted was having my badge on me. One of our main sayings is "The success of an operation will be judged primarily on how force is avoided or minimised" It's much easier for me as we have OC spray which avoids alot of physical confrontation, handcuffs etc I can guarantee if that was member of police force he would be charged and loose his job. On a similiar note I was working in an area of our police communications Saturday night in town and the amount of fights/brawls and assaults is insane I monitored every job in metropolitan melbourne and about 90% percent of jobs were fights/assaults and at most stages of the night all police were tied up dealing with them. There is a major lack of frontline police and I personally don't feel safe to go out in city. I grew up going out in Frankston and area's like that and never had any issues and never felt unsafe but ther is definitely a different feel/culture nowdays and it's only going to get worse if you ask me.

I would be highly surprised if any club/pub will allow it with the Liquor Licensing laws. Best bet would be with a local scout hall or similiar and just arrange security, DJ etc. Where I work there used to be lots held at a Dance Studio but in the end I was the main one responsible for shutting them down permanently. Not the invited guests fault but about 100-200 local youths that cause trouble tried to gatecrash everyone of them so I put an end to it as I ended up being tied up there the whole time of the party every time. Even shut one down with 400 people and seized all alcohol at party which was left with security making them very happy as there was about 5 bins full.

Cops Presence And Defects/fines On Victorian Roads.
gdogzgtr replied to Spunky Munky's topic in Victoria
I can only speak from my experience and say that my work load in last couple of years has incresed by at least 200% which doesn't leave much time for general duties members to be pulling over lots of cars unless they have committed offence. In general TMU only pull over vehicles they are intending on fining and from doing a couple of shift with them and issueing 30 fines in 6 hours doesn't leave much time either to pull car over for no reason. I have also notice many more standard skylines on road and very few with the FMIC, POD, BOV which a couple of years ago alomost every import I pulled over had these mods obviously leaving themselves open to EPA/NOU. The other thing is to with "Hoon" legistlation when we impound a vehicle that will tie us up for up to 1-2 hours with the paperwork required waiting for tows etc Everything we do now ties us up much longer which will mean less checks but also means a lot less pro active policing also with crooks getting checked less, high crime area not getting patrolls as frequently etc No surprise that crime is on increase. -
It is definitely a deception/fraud, in cases like this victoria police can't act as the offence takes place where the offender is which is Qld in this case meaning that investigation needs to done by Qld police. I would suggest as other have get onto your bank and contact Qld police in relation to starting investigation into the matter.

I do my best with my work colleagues to promote SAU and have pulled nemerous members over, generally just to say hello and leave it at that and only ever fined one of our members as they were driving like an idiot with SAU stickers on car. Didn't help with me telling everyone I can that our club is not full of hoons but enthusiasts and leave our fast driving to track. Don't need to go more into that as previously had topic on same. I have met up with other car cruise clubs a few times and had a chat with numerous car owners in a fun way and have been let down by other police turning up and giving people a hard time for no reason but fortunately I talked members out of fines/EPA/NOU etc. It doesn't serve any purpose to give hard time to people trying to do right thing just makes a gap between police and car enthusiasts. I have sold GTR only had it for 6 months and did less than 5000Km in same but never got pulled over in it. Have been pulled over for random check in Supra which has just turned into chats and nothing further. I was very disappointed about what happened Friday night as you were going to end up in my area and I was going to try to catch up with some of you when I started work at 11. I know most of TMU in that area and generally speaking they don't give import drivers a hard time. It's hard been a general duties member to do more in relation to working with car clubs maybe one day if I end up at TMU or SGT I will be able to do more. I believe if you treat peolpe with respect and build a good repor they will cause less hassles for you. I work in that way and as such have never had a complaint in 6+ years in job and only ever had to spray 2 people.

Yet another idiot tonight. Was driving back to station tonight with offender already on board for another matter and a P plater comes out of side street fish tailing all over wet road right in front of us accellarates to 20-30 km/h over speed limit. I decide that's too dangerous to let go and pull him over and suprise suprise is another drink driver and in a cancelled rego car. Imagine if he hit you no TAC and no insurance. In answer to earlier quesstion I am Senior Constable and work in Eastern Suburbs. I also agree that our licensing testing is far too easy. More hours and defensive traing a must and possibly part of getting the license everyone should have to go to TAC rehab centre and see first hand victims of car accidents and see how it has changed their lives. I bet that would make people think twice before driving like an idiot. I agree with all who said Tailgating a big problem to my surpise I find the most tailgating goes on on freeway. How the hell can you stop in a hurry at 100km/h when you are a foot behind vehicle in front.

I Have just finished another week of night shift and just can't believe how many stupid, dangerous drivers I came across and just thought I would share with you. My week in review. Here is what I have come across not even looking for it. I was very busy with other things and these people drove like this in front or past marked police car. 1. Vehicle 60+ Km/h over speed limit and driver drink driving. (Impounded vehicle) 2. Vehicle 40 km/h over speed limit and no p plates. 3. Vehicle 40 km/h over speed limit (pooring down rain on wet roads) Could only get for 40 but I estimated 60km/ over. 4. Vehicle 30 km/h over speed limit, no right turn and driver drink driving. 5. Suspended driver 20 km/h over speed limit, no p plates and four bald tyres. 6. Disqualified driver also drink driving and careless driving. 7. Unlicensed driver in unregistered vehicle. 8. Vehicle 30 km/h over speed limit. 9. Vehicle 30 km/h over speed limit. With this type of driving going on I can't see how "hoon" legislation is working. I guess I am just lucky that they didn't cause a fatal collision possibly because I stopped them before they did. All have either been charged or penalty notices taking their licenses away at least making it a bit safer. To make you happy I will add that NONE were in imports. I did pull one of our members over who could have technically received a fine but was only warned as they were trying to do right thing. Yes I did pull them over because they were driving a skyline but it did have no rego plate.

The wording of the offence is "Use handheld mobile phone whilst driving" In saying use obviously means any application of the phone, whether making or receiving a call, sending message, setting time, listening to music, playing a game etc I agree that it's fairly harsh to recieve a fine in this situation and I personally wouldn't have issued it but I think you would have a hard time getting off it.

My guess is you were probably pulled over by DTU members which are uniform members who do temporary stints of 12-18 months is small local divisional squads looking at drug dealers and other ongoing problems in area. Always plain clothes and plain vehicle generally not fitted with siren. They generally don't carry PBT with them and aren't generally interested in traffic offences probably would have pulled you over due to information received on suspicious activites in area with similiar car to yours. I highly doubt that they were CIU as I have never seen them in cars other than Holden/ford sedans or station wagon. My guess would be if they were up to no good they would have done something at that time as have had car thieves posing as police before but they act at the time not take down details and search through vehicle. You did right thing calling local police to check as they will/should know or be able to find out who checked your car and if legit which is probaly most likely or keep a look out for this vehicle if not legit. Also if we have operations on we have general duty uniform police in plain cars with plain clothes which I have done a number of times. The only thing out of ordinary for me is the vehicle used as I haven;t seen many of them in use but more likely to be used by DTU as don't look like police vehicle when staking out addresses etc.

As I have stated in past if you have obvious FMIC expect to be pulled over and checked under bonnet as 90% of imports with FMIC also have pod filter making you easy target. I must say that the EPA form is the easiest to fill out only takes about 30 seconds. I have issued plenty of them but still none to any members on here as I only issue them to people with poor attitudes or driving like an idiot, as I know how much it will affect the car owner. See generally biggest fine is for unregistered $551 but EPA could cost somebody thousands in hihgly modified car to get it to pass. Also you can't really contest or complain about getting EPA notice. It is a but harsh but everyone on here knows what is legal and what is not and most drive around in illegally modified cars knowing that.

Where do I start with this as I can't say too much. Yes crimes like this are on a major rise. In last 6 years in my job serious crimes like this, armed robberies and serious assaults up about 1000% from my personal experiences. Also about 90% percent of these offences have been committed by recent immigrants/minority groups. Things like problems in noble park with Sudanese in media recently are only going to continue to rise. Courts are a joke and all the criminals who have been to court know that so have no fear of punishment. The biggest problem is with youths as it's almost impossible for a youth to get a prison sentance. If the offender for this is 17 or under he would likely get 2 years for it. When these children commit serious offences such as armed robberies and stabbings and don't get any jail time what do they learn? NOTHING

I have to agree Adzmax above it's about time people take responsability for their driving. I am personally sick of people complaining when they are issued with a fine. Traffic offences are out of control and getting worse due to this "it's only traffic offence attitude" I have caught in last week alone 2 suspended drivers, one 30KM/H over speed limit as well. Seen street race with 3 VL Turbo's 50+Km/h over speed llimit, 3 drink driver's and numerous other offences and all offenders had same attitute of it's only traffic. This while being in a marked vehicle so shows how people have no awareness and I am not a traffic officer so these just happen in front of us driving around. School zones are huge issues and we are tasked to go and fine NO WARNINGS all people committing offences in them. IMO warnings don't work at all. Have given some and seen person doing same thing matter of days later. I also know what it's like to lose licence as I did as P plater for 131 in 110 zone only fine I have ever had in 10 years of driving and I learnt a big lesson. I haven't posted on here for a while but am disappointed with the complaining/negative attitude towards pollice of the newer members on here compared to the older members like Adzmax, R31Nismoid etc

Funny this I pulled over a guy doing the exact thing today but he stopped to get his mail from his PO BOX on the way to vic roads. Had his booking time and papers with him. I don't believe that getting your mail on the way fits into the criteria for getting car registered, but I let him off with a warning becasue I am nice.

I didn't get pulled over once in the 9 months I was driving my skyline and it had very dark windows and GT spoiler just to grab some extra attention but I didn't drive it stupidly to grab attention. My advice is to hide as much as possible FMIC, cover you pod filter and obviously don't have loud BOV and it's mainly how you drive and where you drive depends a lot whether you get pulled over or not. I personally pull over every import with FMIC as almost everyone with FMIC has Pod filter also so illegally modified and I go by their attitute whether to EPA/NOU them. Obviously if committing other offences fine for same.

On foxtel on Saturday night 1.30 a.m. on ESPN there is a car challenge show in U.S. which is pretty good to watch. Basically 2 teams have their choice of Car to modify with $1500 in parts and 4 hours to fit parts then they drag race the cars to see which team has improoved their cars performance down the stip the most and the winner moves on to next round of competition. Only goes for 30 minutes but is interesting to watch. Just wondering who else has seen it and what they think of it. I personally thought ut was interesting to watch and recommend others with foxtel to have a look.

Looks fantastic. Good luck with it all would love to see final results with your setup.

To take fine to court you need to fill out back of fine and inform that you are contesting it. Simply not paying fine does not mean it;s contested and after the 28 days to appeal fine if you haven't sent in stating your contesting fine it would be taken as guilt. Leave fine long enough and it will grow bigger and then turm into a sherriff's office warrant.
