  1. Somehow a steel spacer that I can only guess was from the timing belt cover got in behind the timing cover. I found it sitting between the cover and the tensioner roller. I think we (I) were very lucky, and propably the only thing that prevented major engine damage was because the owner was (suppose to be ) taking it easy due to a dud fuel pump. Belt replacement is quite straight forward, just leave out any and all small and large belt wrecking items and it will all be sweet
  2. Cheers. Like I said it's only the low idle vacuum that bothers me, but that could be a dud gauge or crap hose.
  3. I changed a timing belt on an RB25DET for a family member and unknown to me, a spacer or collar (what ever it was) found it's way where it didn't belong . This caused the inlet cam to become retarded by 2 teeth and the exhaust cam to advance 2 teeth. Resetting the cam timing and the engine to runs like a bought 1 (it wouldn't start befor). The obvious question is, was there any potential to have damaged valves/pistons? My main concern is that the boost gauge is showing about 11" mercury when idling. This seems low to me but I never paid any attention to the gauge pre busted cam timing......... Other than that, engine is smooth as silk with a rock solid idle speed.
  4. I'm after an RB20det wiring loom. Intersted, if you have an un cut loom.
  5. Check this out for dual ROM set up http://www.moates.net/index.php?cPath=25_41
  6. Has anyone ever had any problem with the wiring loom and computer plug on R32 RB20's? I'm asking this, because dispite putting in a set of split fire coils, new plugs (0.8 gap) and tying a different ignitor, my car (S13 Silvia) has a BASTARD of a flat spot. It's going to be hard to explain, but here go's. It idles fine. Drive out the drive way and it feels abit lifeless. Drive down the road and it lacks response. Lean on the throttle (not full throttle BTW) and it feels like you've put your foot on the brake at the same time, despite the boost gague showing 3-5 psi. Hold that throttle possition and when it gets past 4200rpm, it gets a new lease of life and takes off as you'd expect. Get past 5000rpm and it go's dead and struggles. Sometimes using less throttle can make the car feel faster. Car has a new fuel pump (Bosch 040), runs OK air/fuel ratio's (11.5-10.5:1 under load/boost), I've cleaned the airflow meter (R32 airfilter box/standard throw away filter), base timing is 15 degrees. It hasn't always had this lovely feature, and it has come and gone befor.
  7. I'm new here, but hopefully someone can help. I nead to replace the gearlever boot (the rubber 1) on my RB20 gearbox. Has anyone done this as it looks like a schite job............ Any help would be great or should I just buy a short shifter and forget about it?
