Pure revenue raising, the figures that they use from last year showing a reduction on road deaths are flawed, as it does not take into account the decrease in road use at the same time due to the higher costs of fuel.
Here's another tidbit that I heard today, the camera's on Eastlink where budgeted to raise $62.5million p/a, however, they have only raised just under $750,000, so there is a budgeted (yes, speed camera revenue has it's own revenue line in the state budget) lose from those camera's of $61.75million. These new camera's are budgeted to raise around $60million p/a, coincidence?
