I only copped one hit from a stone the entire way. For the record, Windex is the best thing at getting bugs off your bumper in a hurry. I chucked some fly wire in front of our intercoolers so we wouldn't be picking bugs out of the fins. Did the trick nicely. Total spent on fuel for me was.. $578.42. Probably less since my receipts don't show all the drinks I bought. Edit: In the spreadsheet I came up for planning this trip, my estimated fuel expenditure was $583.87. Pretty damn close if I do say so myself.

A lot of dead ones! On the first 2 days we had some close calls, but after that it was fine, we saw none. Well, on the last drive across SA, the Nullabor and from Norseman to home we saw one in Chidlow, just outside of Perth.. Of all the places to see a kangaroo. He looked keen to jump too.

I'm not leaving this suburb for a long time. I have a tyre to replace as well. Was driving 110km/h with a space saver. Had to change the front passenger side tyre because it started to shred in the middle of the 90 mile stretch on the Nullabor. Really slowed things down, but the economy improved dramatically. We ended up going from Norseman to Northam on one full tank. I got exactly 616km to the tank before my fuel light came on and that was literally at Northam. Nathan managed to squeeze in 585km which was a pretty good effort. I got home at 2.20am and we left Ceduna in SA at 7am (+1hr30mins to Perth) which means we were driving for almost 21 hours straight.

Hey guys, just an update. We're now in Goondiwindi and arrived at about 7.30pm. We left scorching hot Sunshine Coast at 2.00pm to arrive at an overcast and damp Goondiwindi. It's a surprisingly nice place and we were greeted by an overzealous Commodore who decided to hoon passed us while we were parked and yell out something stupid. So far so good. When I get back I'll upload a picture of my car wearing a makeshift car bra made from fly wire cut just to cover the FMIC and some of the bumper Next update should be from Cobar. Take care guys, Shayde

I'm hunting down sites at the moment and I'm only coming up with sites from NSW and Vic. I can't find any companies in QLD that deal in car bras. Haven't found one yet anyway. Can you recall the company that did it?

Hey guys, I'm planning on driving my s2 r33 about 4,500km to west aus and am trying to hunt down one of those car bra thingys for my car. I have absolutely no idea where to start looking for these things and any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm staying in Sunshine Coast at the moment, but having to go to Brisbane isn't a big deal to get 2 of these (a mate of mine is coming along in his s1 r33 as well). Thanks in advance guys, Shayde.

Update. I (Shayde) was driving behind Ossie just to check how much smoke we're getting here. Basically under load I can't see the back of his car. Under light load, taking off, shifting into 2nd and then 3rd in low speed there was very noticable smoke. One other thing he told me was that he was driving in 14psi setting and his boost guage read 18psi and his 20psi setting reached 19psi and then cut out. He described it as the engine dying. The car slowed down and just lost all boost and such. His tuner has thinks it's most likely the map sensor line. Possibly a leak or something like that causing this. If this isn't the case it could be something more sinister. I want to check all the standard ignition fault causes as well. Thanks for your help so far guys, it's much appreciated. - Shayde

This is ossie_21 logged in under Shayde's username btw 95 r33 with lots o shite, wolf ecu has recently been rebuilt with all forged internals and tuned to run 14 or 20psi. At the moment under low and heavy loads i'm getting consistant backfiring at similar intervals in each gear all the time. 1st gear at some point I havent seen yet cos i never stretch 1st, but 2nd at about 55kph, 3rd at 80kph, 4th at 100kph & 5th at 140kph. Under acceleration the car will hit these points & backfire harshly on me, if I keep my foot down the car will finally struggle past it & boost on as normal. When no acceleration at all and the car is slowing down the car will again hit these speeds, not backfire because there is no acceleration but the revs die right down, but ONLY at these speeds. Doubt its a rev issue because they are different, in between 3100 & 3500 approx. Apart from these things the car sounds & drives as normal, I can get around the backfiring but that will mean minimal boost, pretty ghey in a near 400rwhp car That "was" it, but now a couple of other things have showed up. the other day I started the car as normal, got to the servo & filled up. Went in & payed, got back and the car wouldnt fire up straight away. It now does this all the time, taking quite a while to start & generally being a bitch. idle is now quite rough, with a decent amount of black smoke under minimal revs. i may or may not have a cat, but still more black smoke than normal/there should be. Also, the keyless entry now decides not to work after not being activated for a while (ie overnight). the way I started it up this afternoon was by opening the door & getting the alarm, then putting the key in the ignition and turning it to on & then pressing it. so its gone from a maybe plug/coil issue to possibly being ecu related. I had my car for 1 day in Perth after the retune & it was perfect, but since I got to queensland its been like this since i picked it up from the TNT depot a week ago. If anyone at all can help out with this it would be great, all i can narrow it down to is plugs, coils or an ecu issue, ive gone over as many hoses i can find but only checking connections & not leaks. have to do that in the light after reading through some threads but Im hoping for some feedback asap because i need to get down to the gold coast to see my brother & nephew tomorrow or Friday, so the sooner the better! plan b is getting down to the area & getting to a respectable qld workshop to see what they can tell from seeing the car, so if any qld based people can help out there for tomorrow that would be sweet. Cheers, Nathan

Thanks for the offer, Dave! I'll be sure to catch up with ya when I return. I'll give the car a bit of a once over once she's home safe. She's going straight for a service once she gets back! As for extra fuel, we'll be carrying quite a bit to get us across the Nullabor. I think I mentioned earlier I've planned the trip so only BP Ultimate will be used. As for music.. The stacker will be full and I'll have a few MP3 CDs in the inventory. Look forward to catching up with yas soon, cheers guys! -Shayde

Thanks for the advice so far guys. I've already thought of most of it so far. I'm looking in to those car bra thingys. I'd like to best protect the paint job and intercooler as best I can. The last thing I want to have to worry about is that sort of crap when I get home. As for octane booster, hopefully that won't be necessary. I've planned the trip according to where BP Ultimate is available so we'll be dishing out a few extra dollars to make sure we have 2 spare tanks worth with us to make sure we get across the Nullabor without having to use dodgey fuel. It also turns out that it's along the shortest route anyway. Both cars have just been serviced (well, both motors have just been rebuilt and coincidently finished at the same time) and had oil replaced so that shouldn't be an issue until we get home. As for fluids (both human and car consumables) yeah, that's a must. Already on the list. I'll be checking condition of hoses and stuff as well and the wear of a few other bits and pieces to. If you can think of anything else, it'd be much appreciated. Cheers guys. -Shayde

To address a few things.. 1. We're not gay. You can even ask my girlfriend who is in Perth waiting for me to get home. 2. All alcohol consumption will be done in Perth. 3. The wombat bit me.

I'm babysitting his wombat.

My skyline has 315hp at 12psi and Nathan's has like 390hp at 20psi. He'll be driving low boost (14psi) and I'll probably take the 10psi option. Or just leave in on 12. Decisions, decisions..

It's awesome living here if you were a fan of Country Practice. See what I did there?

Whatsa matter dan? Thought you got rid of us? I'm sure Nathan will go into bitching about this place when we get back. Gonna be the most fun 4,500km ever me thinks. Me hopes

Hey guys Ossie_21 (Nathan) and myself have pretty much had it with this place and have decided to take a mini-cruise home in both our Skylines. So we're driving from Coolum Beach in Queensland (Sunshine Coast) to Perth. We'll be leaving some time towards the end of December this year. Anyone know of anyone to have done something this stupid in similar type cars? Anyways, I'll be periodically updating this thread from various parts of Australia. I have scheduled in 3-4 rest stops and the whole trip should take 4 or 5 days. Depends on how much driving we feel up to. Anyways, wish us luck and hopefully in a couple weeks and I'll post a few pictures of the two skylines covered in dust and insects in some random spots in Australia. Cheers, Shayde

My gears must grind because they just can't keep up with my super shifting ability.

We're actually a Nissan Skyline club. I thought you knew!?

Trust this guy! He's practically a doctor! My fan wasn't cut during the install of a front mount.

Illegal too I think? They won't fit in a skip. I have this mate that had a mate who has this other mate and his cousin said that his brother couldn't fit it in his uncle's mate's sister's dad's skip.

I liked the DVD and I'm in it a few times. Thumbs up. Ps: Damn you, dan! You get to post "keep it on topic" in like every thread.. That's like.. 10,000 posts a day!
-
Sounds like you got everything sussed. The only hard parts are.. Engine and gearbox mounting, tailshaft and electrics.. Which pretty much makes up.. EVERYTHING! So it shouldn't be hard, but you should worry about everything because they are the hard bits! Sorry to take the piss, but do you actually know what kind of work you're in for? It's a cool idea, but stupidly expensive and sounds like you haven't really got it all sussed after all.

Leather seat covers and a cover for those?

Looking forward to it, regardless dude. I'm sure I'll be back one day and you better take me for a ride! Ps: Can you get a seat cover for the leather?
