  1. Oh, rego costs, well of course. I thought you meant taking it to regency cost you.
  2. Well the car is australian delivered, so in my understanding regency isn't as stupid harsh. On the VIN inspection sheet, they have different classes, and one of them import. It would be ridiculous if they were as harsh, because theres a lot of cars that go through regency that aren't bone stock and factory perfect. Why did regency cost a grand? When I called them they told me it was 72 bucks for an inspection?
  3. If you don't mind me asking, what did it cost? My wheels probably won't pass (1 cm too wide, I think ) so I guess a compliance shop will probably have some stockies.
  4. Awesome!!! Congratulations man.. when Magnarifico is on the road, I must check it out hehe... Oh yeah.. my regency date is the 28th.. damn, I should have called 2 weeks ago. The lady told me to call in the mornings to see if anyone pulls out.. I have a week off soon, I'll be calling every day
  5. Haha.. so is this story about how poorly made holdens are? Begin the flamewar!! lol...
  6. One of my friends just bought an MR2, with a brass button. I have heard many bad things about how undriveable they are, but apparently the previous owners girlfriend learned to drive a manual with the clutch. He also drove it every day. My friend previously had a Telstar (clutch == sponge) and he is having more trouble with the different shift pattern than the clutch. According to the MR2's previous owner, the trick is in the setup - ie take it to a place that knows what they're doing. I would guess if they strongly recommend one, then they probably know how to set it up. On the other hand, although it may be expensive to replace a clutch, and a brass button will probably not need replacement, a clutch is designed to be a consumable item. And it's cheaper to replace than your diff/gearbox etc. If you make the clutch indestructible, then it means that something like your driveshafts become the next weak point. The week after the old owner of my car installed a nice new clutch, he destroyed the diff launching.
  7. I can't believe you haven't sold this thing yet, I got mine for 650 second hand and I thought I got a freaking bargain! Plus mine has a big dent in the flash. Anyway, as a major camera geek, this thing was the object of my lust for a long time. A lot of reviewers have said it's the best 5 mp camera ever, and I have played with many cameras after this one, and I agree. Nothing touches it, it's just perfect. Also, it's easy to use, go and look at a DSC F828, it is a monster pig to use. It has infra red shooting too - you can make really nifty shots during the day using strange filters and photoshop. It's indestructible. If you don't mind carrying the thing around, and you like to take AWESOME photos - get it. Imagine going to a car show with this, as opposed to your crappy phone camera. Plug + bump
  8. Haha.. yeah, like this *Claps hands* *Haughty fake english accent* "Oh, trolley monkey. Mmm.. would you kindly remove these trolleys from my path?" Haha.. which raises a valid point. Who is he to criticise your car when he has a job as a trolley monkey?
  9. Haha.. weigh up your price options.. on the one hand, EPA $$, on the other, new cat, plus remus muffler? Also $$, but you don't have to pay the government, ever. I'd rather my money went to the car than them.. hehe
  10. Hmm.. full regency approved + power FC... 1.0 BAR of boost.. methinks I smell a contradiction I called and asked what mods are street legal to cars the other day.. and the lady said, you can have a different exhaust so long as it's not too loud, and you can have a different intercooler + piping. Cams, turbo, fuel computers, turbos, basically anything that can make a real difference to power need to be emissions tested (3 grand, thank you very much) to see if they comply with ADR's. Basically.. err.. what was my point? Oh yes, completely street legal + 11 seconds.. I doubt it's truly possible, even in a car as mighty as the GTR... If you can do it, I mean pass a roadworthy AFTER you run an 11 second pass.. I will bow to your awesomeness!!! Actually that would be a good way to stick it to those regency goons, try to get some fairly normal mods emissions tested, so we can all have bigger turbos etc. and have an engineers cert for it? Maybe as a group buy? We can all put in fifty bucks and put it on someones car and get it passed... ah but I bet that they require testing for each individual car *sigh*.
  11. Yes, the cooling off period is your friend.. find out tomorrow what it is, make sure you do it, and then call the place and tell them, I am bringing the car back, within the cooling off period, and I want a refund. I hope you didnt toss the wheels that were on it. The lady at consumer affairs is kind of wrong, because they mis-represented the car. Oh.. if they've advertised the car at all, find the ad and see what it says.. if it says "Skyline GTS-T", then they are kind of buggered, as it certainly ISN'T a GTS-T. But, make sure to hurry if it's within the cooling off period, as they will DEFINITELY know about it and DEFINITELY try to stall you as long as possible to avoid giving you a refund. You are ENTITLED TO IT. Dude, I work in retail, and we have taken returns on stuff because the people didn't LIKE IT, let alone we misrepresented it. If we misrepresent something the shit REALLY hits the fan. You are a customer also, so if you complain to consumer affairs, you can say, I asked if it's a genuine GTS-T and they said it was. Lie as much as you want, they can't prove otherwise. They did sell it as a GTS-T, they even went to the trouble of changing the badge. Normally I don't like the idea of people lieing to get what they want in the beauraucratic world - however when people blatantly rip you off like that, then they need to be put straight by any means necessary. Bugger them. And, if they start to offer partial refunds, make sure you get such a refund as if you bought a non- turbo + $400 for the turbo. Then maybe trade it in somewhere else for a proper GTS-T.
  12. Bah, you have got to be sh#@ing me about the dirty underbody? I mean how many cars are TOTAL PIECES OF CRAP!! Driving around!!! Man, I am totally screwed, I will never ever get this car on the road!! Unless... the real regency love is reserve for you skyline fellows... a fellow magna owner told me that although regency was picky as, they were LESS picky than he thought they would be... Bah, if I get defected again when I go in, I am going to temporarily move to the country and get it cleared down there. Stupid regency! Why do they have to make it so hard. Hmm.. I pray that it's an import only thing, my seat belts are FADED SLIGHTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMFGWTF AM I GUNNA DOOOOOOOO!!!!! Additionally, I swear if I am defected again I am going to personally call the police and report cars (ie, falcadores) that aren't roadworthy. Haha.. how many VH's have cut springs? ALL of them! Screw it, make more work for them, more cars to inspect. When a whole buttload of people complain to the government about the harshness of regency, we will see. OO even better, do BMW's that have big wheels, find out which ones come with 16's, and report ones with 19's. Then we can piss people off who have money and therefore political clout. Anyway, front pads? Braided lines? How will they know? They can't take your wheels off, surely. I was told by plenty of people they have no tools. I can't wait until wednesday to hear what happens with your car.
  13. There's usually a cooling off period for purchases. How long since you bought it? I'd assume something as expensive as a car would be at least 2 weeks. Also, you shouldn't have had to ask "is it genuine", because they were selling it as a GTS-T, not a GTS-with-turbo-bolted-on. If they said it was a GTR and it was RWD only, it would be the same thing. Call consumer affairs and ask them what the cool-off period is. You should be entitled to a full refund, as they 100% ripped you off. If you really can't get a refund, take it to regency and tell them it's a factory non-turbo with a turbo attached to it. Then they will defect the living shit out of it, and then you can force them to fix it, as they sold you an unroadworthy vehicle. Call the vehicle modifcations section of transport SA and (DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR NAME lol) ask them about the 5-stud, diff, etc. Then, write everything down, or even better, get them to fax you a fact sheet, and go down to the car yard and tell them, if you don't give me a refund now, I will go to regency. Show them the fact sheet and what is allowed and not allowed. If they offer to remove the turbo, ask for a refund again, or a swap for an actual GTS-T. Do not yell at them, or raise your voice at all, just give them the facts. Try to get a small tape recorder and record the conversation, and also tell them that you are recording them. This should scare three colours of shit out of them and allow you a bit more leverage. If it gets to the regency stage, then make sure to tell them what you think is wrong with it, and the differences between GTS and GTS-T, diff, gearbox, engine, etc. If they just say, take the turbo off and it will be legal, then you can go back to the car yard and say, you sold me a car that's supposed to be turbo, which legally can't be. Either modify it to be legally turbo or give me a refund, and then call Consumer Affairs again. Or, a Current Affair. If you give them enough shit they will cave in, I guarantee it. Do not accept a partial refund, tell them that next time they will learn to be more careful with what they're selling. And also, for a laugh, tell them that, when they have the car back, "they can live with it and not know the difference". The wheels.. well you may get a store credit, and most business are understanding about stuff like that. Unfortunately, though, you will probably wear that one. At least in future you'll know Haha, sorry to rant so much, but nothing pisses me off more than car based businesses that think they can just rip people off because no one knows the difference. They would definitely have known about it, and when you got defected for driving a turbo'd non-turbo car, they would be laughing all the way to the bank.
  14. Man, why do people have to be such dicks to each other? Honestly, why would anyone give a f@#k what you drive? "That's what you get for driving jap crap"? If someone did something that childish to my property, I would stalk them, find out where they live, and then do the old "crap in a bag, set it on fire and ring the doorbell" thing. And I would leave a note that said "That's what you get for being a small minded jerk - or in language you can understand "driving Aus Toss"."
  15. Bugger... theres no way my car is going through on the 31st, shame! Would have been nice to meet up with some more car enthusiasts, and share the regency love. Oh well, I hope you pass mate
  16. Alright, quick one. Why doesn't smoky the bear have any kids? Every time his wife gets hot he beats her with a shovel.
  17. Everyone here has probably seen it, but today I was going up main north road and I saw a sweet red Stagea.. with custom plates and all. Mmmmmmmmm... supa-wagon style.
  18. Haha.. how bout an OLD Z! 240 is awesome, for ten you'll get one that is in good nick. Or, if you want a scary car that's cheap, pick up a 2l escort, I got one for 2 grand with mags, race seats, twin 40 webers, extractors, rally cams, tramp rods ()... sierra cosworth 5 speed.. XB GS bonnet scoops.. They're easy as to fix as well, because they're light to jack, and being old, quite simple. Not bad cars, really nice handling, does exactly what you tell it. I "lost control" quite often on dirt tracks on the way to my work, no worries, remove accelerator, point wheel. (Accelerate more for drift ) Good car I think for a learner driver, and relatively cheap to mod as you become more confident. When I was looking for cars not long ago, I saw many for about the 5 grand mark that were PIMPED. As far as the Z, I have a z31, and yes, they are a pig to work on. There is just no room in the engine bay. The engine bay in the Z32 is about the same size, but the engine is bigger. If you want to spend 3 hours throwing a hammer at your spark plug leads, get a Z. But, they are reliable as, the only issue is troubleshooting the freaking nissan ECCS. If ONE SENSOR screws up, the whole car runs like utter crap. When the crank angle sensor died in mine, the ECU kept telling me that the oxygen sensor and MAF were dead, even though they were both new. Also, getting things like the timing belt changed, due to the complexity of the engine etc, is quite expensive. I think that really, you should get a car that you can deal with, drive it, see how you like it, the visibility etc. If you get a non turbo car that comes in turbo trim, you will be tempted to spend money "turboing" it - this is expensive. Ah, and to answer your original question directly, between non turbo r32 and 300zx - the Z, definitely Lovely lovely cars to drive. And, less people will try to race you like idiots, and less commodore drivers will throw beer bottles at you, and less traffic cops will pull you over. And you can get leather interior.
  19. 31st? Crud, I was hoping to get my defect cleared before the end of the month.. is your inspection different to a normal one? I mean is there a special "gouge the import driver" inspection, or are they all the same? I should have called and found out.. All I need to do now is get my grill blacked out so they can't see the cut-out metal and I should be good! Ahhhhh I so hope I don't get screwed over, I really do. I am so tempted to "move" to the country for a week and get a cop to clear it... freaking regency, why do they need to make it so hard for us? Haha.. I'll try to get my inspection on the 31st too, so we can sit and sweat it out together..
  20. Try out an EVO 8 MR BOV, they're fairly inexpensive (unless you get it from Satan, uhh... I mean Mitsubishi), and apparently can hold near 20 psi, no problems. Even if it required some modification to fit, I would bet a dollar that someone makes an adapter for mitsubishi BOV's to fit skylines. But like Mr Italy! says, it's probably the same flange. Also, a VR4 BOV is nice (mine holds 18 without too much hassle, will probably swap it out for an EVO one though), and should be really cheap. Call some jap wreckers.
  21. Muh.. looks like I have to paint the I/C black and grill out the massive hole earlier than I wanted to.
  22. If it's illegal to mod the exhaust before the cat, then lots of V8's need to be defected for extractors . Anyway, like I said, borrowing an exhaust is a bandaid fix. Really, you should try to get the car modified to be legal, as is, for daily driving. It's a GTR skyline - cop bait, unfortunately. Look how many people have gotten exhaust/EPA defects on this forum, and their exhaust has been tested at an inspection station and passed. Just make sure you have a cat and get it tested for noise - any good exhaust shop will be able to do it. They will also be able to make it quieter for you.
  23. It's not illegal to have a modified exhaust, so long as a ) it retains the cat and b ) it's noise levels comply with ADR's. I already called regency about it, that's what they told me. It does have to be the standard cat though. They're unlikely to hoist my car up and see that the cat is slightly larger than normal, but you owning an import, (especially a mighty GTR), they will probably try to find reason to not pass it. It would be cheaper and better in the long run to just have a stock cat put in there, if you don't have one, rather than replacing the entire exhaust. Just get them to test the noise level when you get the cat installed. If it's too loud, add a resonator, or replace the muffler. That way your exhaust will be street legal and you have one less reason to be defected in the future. Of course call regency first to make sure that the car can be complied with a modified exhaust - my car is australian delivered, so the rules may be different.
  24. What do you mean structural bodywork? The front of the bumper (plastic bits) have been cut, and a little bit of the bumper support has been cut too.
  25. Wait.. I thought GTR's were RWD cars unless the rear wheels begin to slip? Say, with ATTESSA you have a 100% RWD car, but if you start sliding around on gravel the front wheels bite, up to 50% or something like that?
