  1. Man, I don't know what to think anymore.. some people get it really harsh, some people get it easy. This guy I talked to today reckons a lot of his friends have gone over the pits in S14's, massive intercoolers and piping, no dramas. And then you get stories like yours Matty.. which just makes me angry as.. I mean how many f@#$ed commodores are on the road? Exhaust pipes trailing on the ground.. ahh, just get that fixed whenever you can mate.. but as soon as a young guy in a shiny datto 1600 goes by.. boom, ah mate those wheels are a bit big for this car... I wish they would just make up their minds, you know? Anyone here get through with a larger intercooler? I am having a bastard of a time trying to find a stocky, the car is just too uncommon. Is it worth calling regency, asking if its okay and then getting that persons name/number etc? Anyway, if they get that anal with me I'll complain to transport SA that I feel I'm being treated unfairly, and if they do nothing I will call my minister of parliament. I mean non standard intake - I can accept that. But, if they start saying.. oh it's unroadworthy because theres a small hole in this seat. That is BS. So everyone has to buy a brand new car?
  2. My car has a lightened flywheel - it's nice to drive overall, I wouldn't really fault it, except with the air-con on, in second gear (or higher), braking, the car often stalls. But, the engine feels much, much smoother. It doesn't whinge much at high RPM.
  3. haha... how about.. er.. non - nissan 4 doors? If not, I have an old 300zx, that's nearly 4 doors (3 ).
  4. No, it has an aftermarket. They looked for it at the VIN inspection, couldn't find it though. I think I'll relocate it. It's not a particularly common car so I guess I'm living in hope that they won't look, know where to look, or even think to look when the car looks stock. My loom is such a mess, I don't think it's going to be particularly easy to go back to the stock computer. OOO, but a good point, I should probably put fuses in the "ECS" section of the fuse holder Haha... sometimes I'm idealistic!! Lemme lone!!! hehe
  5. Haha.. I've heard that too, but I have to go to regency for the inspection, so I can't. Should have gone down there for the VIN check. Although really, anyone who knew anything about cars, even a little bit, would have defected the thing. What do you mean "exemption from fitting of a compliance plate"? Theyre trying to say the car isn't complied or it isn't allowed to be?
  6. Lol... he told you to put steel wool in the muffler? How dodgy! Yep, it's exactly the same engine as standard. Well, the bottom end. The head, intake, turbo (nearly lol) etc is all from the original A-spec engine. I think I will probably end up doing what DriftR-33 did. The emission controls were unplugged, I will just make it look stock by replacing the intake etc, and when I go for my inspection I will tell them what I think the defect means. They're unlikely to call the defecting officer, are they? I'll of course tell them that it had a larger than standard intercooler too. You're probably right, they are government employees and unless they suspect me of being some kind of deviant they're not likely to ruin me. I will call TSA when I can to see what the emissions defect actually means. Anyway, it says in the TSA pdf's I was reading that extractors are legal, and indeed all exhaust modifications are, so long as you a)retain the catalytic converter and b)do not have an exhaust louder than the ADR states. Obviously because it's very hard to get stock exhausts for older cars, they can't be unreasonable. I don't feel so bad anymore, I should be able to get past it. They will probably only ask me to prove the emissions if I want to get my modifications approved. I'll start saving then I'll get it modified and on the street legally. It's worth 3K hehe. Yes, this 3 inch intake pipe actually allows me better than standard emissions and fuel economy officer. I have the engineering certificate to prove it.
  7. It is a standard engine. All that it has is some intake mods + a larger turbo. Obviously the exhaust is modified too, but in SA they don't care so long as it still has a cat and it isn't loud.
  8. So basically they have tried to put me off the road forever?
  9. Haha.. The speed hump idea is ideal - if you really want to piss them off then get speed humps installed, because they make a hell of a noise. My wife was telling me how in a neighbourhood near her, filled with the kinds of people who feel a false sense of entitlement, they decided they needed speed humps, as people driving "so fast" kept people awake with the noise. They petitioned and petitioned, until eventually the council forked out and installed a bunch of speed humps. Then - less than a month later the noise of people driving over speed humps was keeping them awake. So, the ideal scenario is to agree with your neighbours, act like a total suckup and get some speed humps installed. Then, whenever you go over one you can make a bump sound and get to open the throttle They'll even say you're a responsible young man for being concerned.. haha..
  10. Are you seriously telling me that if they have hit me with "emissions to comply with ADR" they have #$@ed me in the arse? If this is the case I am going to spew blood at my member of parliament. How can they have the authority to require me to spend $3000, repeatedly, to get my car registered? Has anyone here got slapped with emissions before? Selling this car to a wrecker would be a massive loss! I wonder if my insurance covers "regency being unreasonable", causing the car to be written off?
  11. Yes, but the answer I was expecting. It's ok, I have the stock tiny turbo, just need to get a fitting kit. Are you in adelaide chops? I didn't think SA's emission testing was as expensive. The engine numbers match the rego, I made sure of that before I bought the car, but it is a low km import engine. Pretty sure that the J engines have the same codes as the A. Yeah, it is a big world of pain. My beautiful car.. defected! Bahhhhhhh
  12. Hah, just took my car (not a skyline, but we are all brothers in the japanese car game ;D) down there. There was like 4 guys looking at it and writing crap down. Apparently the "This is not a roadworthiness inspection" they write on the back of the form is a load of crap. Non-compliant engine fitted Emissions to comply with ADR Steering wheel So, what does "Non compliant engine fitted" mean, and how do I fix it? Also, I didn't think we did emission tests in SA, is there a place anyone knows of that can adjust my ECU to make it emission legal, and test it on the spot? The car has a haltech. Luckily they couldn't find it. Also, there are only a couple of items, in anyones experience, if I take it down for an inspection will they screw me for more stuff? I of course have a bigger intercooler (A-spec one is like an air-con radiator) and piping, larger turbo, the stock air box has been moved. Additionally the wheels are not the standard wheels, although not much bigger, and the suspension is different. Do they ping you for strut tower braces? What about a/m shocks? It has koni's, but surely shocks aren't a big deal? So, because I was defected at the inspection centre and not by a cop, will they be softer on me? I thought regency was a punishment.. but maybe it's just a great big revenue raiser. Maybe I'll move to WA. Pah. Ha, when I was there a guy had a van they defected for tint. It was crazy, they even said he could paint the windows over or have curtains, but tinting them was illegal. Man, f**k transport SA and their revenue raising.
