  1. Thread reinstated... Bump!
  2. Thanks for the comments Yes it was a very clean car, dead straight chassis rails, and straight suspension, which was paramount if I'm going to barrel down EC straight at 5000 km/h! Chris: I didn't weigh the tar sound deadening, but I would roughly guess around +/-10kgs? With all the thick carpet stuff, about double that? Definitely not worth it on a road car, but for a race car, the more noise the better! Rest assured, there isn't ONE iota of tar left inside that cabin PRO_32: Yeah, Peter did a fantastic job... His attention to detail was definitely more than what I expected. He bent those front legs in 6 places to get them to sit that close to the A-pillar! Angus_Smart: I'm a little disheartened with that carbon shaft... I haven't even had the heart to remove it from the box after reading that one guy had his shear in half and bang around under his car. I don't know what I'm going to do with it. Yeah, I love those BBS wheels, but they're a little too nice to bash around the track with... So I've replaced them with something a little lighter, and a little wider Anyway, this is old stuff, there's more to come on the next page!
  3. kgc10 - You need to learn to actually READ the thread. NZM.031 canceled the cruise because his car wasn't up for it and due to lack of interest. NZM.031 - Be clearer next time. "THIS CRUISE IS CANCELED".
  4. Gimme your brakes... You know I'll look after them
  5. Phew... Okay, that's definitely enough photos for page 1... I'll continue with the pics later All the good stuff is still to come!
  6. Next, it was time for the roll cage... Steve from Justjap gave me the intro to Peter Muir from Bond Roll Bars, who's race car time is precious these days since he has landed some lucrative industrial contracts. I could not have envisaged a better job. I owe Peter a few cases of beer for this.
  7. Lets get to work on these doors... UGH!!! This stuff took AGES to clean Before: After:
  8. So it took about 2 hours of dry ice to get it there... ................ and about another 10 hours to get it to this state (and some people call me anal! PFFFFFFT!!! ) Time to clean up under the dash
  9. Work kicked off in earnest Immaculate R32 GTR was stripped bare... ..... and all sound deadening removed (Anyone who does this with a heat gun is a chump - this took about 2 hours ) I lost the good photos where pieces of tar were coming off in chunks as big as pizzas, but you can see some big pieces in the bucket in this photo: 2 hours later, and we have this Here's what was removed in the initial pass with dry ice!
  10. So Superlap has given me renewed vigor to finish this stupid car, I thought I might start a thread about it... Hopefully it will give me that little bit more encouragement to work on it! In January 2008, I flew to Perth and bought a 1994 R32 GTR from a forum member. Mostly standard, with dodgy old Tanabe suspension and some beautiful BBS wheels, it provided me with a very clean (actually TOO clean, in hindsight) platform for me to work with...
  11. If they really want this to take off, they need to make it more of a spectator sport. For a start, how about a BIIIIIG timing board in the infield, showing LIVE feeds of the times the relevant cars going roundy-roundy are clocking? How about some driver interviews? Between rounds, grab a driver at the pointy end of the field, bring him out into pit-lane and do a quick 2-3 minute chat on the PA system. Otherwise, and lets be honest...... it's just like watching a normal private practice day (with trade stands and hot chicks running around in skin tight lycra booty shorts). The <cough.cough.drifting.cough> promoters have got it right. They turned the stupid sport into a spectacle.
  12. That's the correct part number. I'll be replacing mine this weekend...
  13. I agree... Apparently, this takes into account the crumple zones that are usually built into today's automobiles. It was thought to be safer to allow the crumple zones to work first, and then rely on the cage to protect the driver. Doesn't help if you're trying to improve the RIGIDITY of the car though
  14. No, that's from the general Schedule J... Each CATEGORY of racing has its own little quirks and nuances. e.g. Category 3J = (aka Improved Production or IPRA) is a popular racing category around the Skyline crew. It contains the following paragraph: Link to all the specific racing categories: http://www.camsmanual.com.au/02_race.asp#3rd
  15. Are you building the cage to a specific CAMS category? That's the only reason I can think of, for not wanting to go from the main hoop through the rear firewall.
  16. This might go down in history as the MEANEST April fools joke But it was posted an hour early... does that mean he's serious?!?!
  17. That's where you're going wrong! Pick up your skirt and stop wearing out your brakes, you nancy-boy!
  18. Are you able to connect two camera heads into the one POV main unit? Or do I physically need to buy two complete POV kits to get two video angles?
  19. You're all a bunch of clowns... .............. ALL of you
  20. Can you still get the 5000K Bosch kits? As soon as I find out whether I need H1 or H3 (R32 GTR), I'll be ordering a set.
  21. Ahhh... good to hear that it's only a minor problem. Everyone was a little shocked, we were all hoping to see 1:11s from the car in the balls-out flying lap
  22. They certainly were the fastest (by a fair margin!) but they didn't take it out... That honour goes to Mark Berry. What happened to the car in the final one lap dash? There weren't any catastrophic bangs or fluids spewing out... It just kind of stopped accelerating!
  23. Please refrain from posting duplicate threads. Post in your old thread with updated pricing if you need to.
