Out of interest Terry, did you import your own VIII instead of buying locally because of a specific reason like better quality, lower kms or the like, or was it price related? I only ask because I may be looking to buy one in future and haven't considered importing one yet since I don't know a lot about the process and the value compared against local cars etc. Very nice daily though, very jealous.

Do you think carbon build up would be as much of a problem on E-Flex though Lithium? It seems to me now that it's not as much of an issue for my copper plugs, the same should be true for the entire system post-combustion. Have seen a few internet threads of engine tear downs (not failure related) of e85-fed cars which seemed remarkably "clean" compared to a petrol counterpart.

Dude if this thing can survive Richo's punishment then a VNT can totally handle pootling around town with me as a road car...

Link us that video if you find it c4aos

I'm nearly 27 and I'm flat out owning a gtst. I think it's safe to say you're all doing fine

I'm not really mentioning them in the same sentence, unless you favour cornering and absolute agility above all else. I still say pick skyline or supra depending on what you want, unless it's not exactly what either car offers. The r34 gtr is not in the same league as later model Lancer Evo and WRX Sti's for cornering speed (while obviously still having more in a straight line and power potential). Watch best motoring Tsukuba battles (tight track favouring nimble cars) and the 4 cylinders started beating gtrs from about evo 7 onwards.

Lol! Needs the little water dripper to be hooked up to the air filter.
-
Well put. I think if you want a car that can make passengers spontaneously shit themselves when you come on boost or like the adrenalin of "superman-ride" acceleration, then you look at the supra. If you want a good all round bang for your buck sports car which is quite agile and can still be quite powerful as a street car, get the skyline. If that's not agile enough, look at an evo/sti.

This looked like a lot of fun. Such a shame I couldn't make it. But I'm really keen to come along to the next one and meet some fellow SAUers

RB is supposed to be race bred, numbers denote the displacement, d is dual overhead cam, e is electronic fuel injected, and the t/tt is presence of turbo or twin turbo. At least I'm pretty sure that's it.

Thanks for the info boys, I'll have to decide if I can live without them when I go lower and roll the fronts. -

Epic. Can't wait to see what the venturi can do. Great build Bobby. -

Can guard liners be retained if you just roll the fronts and not flare? Is there any benefit to doing so, or does it just lessen clearance? -
Awww man I wanted to buy the PSI parts one soon..

When you do the smoke test normally you're testing from the pod up to the throttle body because it's closed. It will seep out and of the hoses and gaskets not doing their job along the way to that point. If you open the throttle body then yes some may escape but it's not under enormous pressure so it just sort of wafts out where it can and then dissipates harmlessly. And you'll probably get to see all the plenum hose and gasket leaks there too. That's how it was when Sean at EFI did mine prior to tuning. -
Haha certainly doing 0-100 in sub 3 seconds can't be considered serene. I'll bet that's awesome fun. I mean more when you look at a video or someone lapping a track in the gtr, it certainly looks less "busy" than some other sports cars. I guess this is as much a testament to the engineers who designed it if it is actually like that to drive (have not been in a gtr) I certainly wouldn't say no to owning one, but If that's true, I can see the argument that a buyer might look at a car that's more engaging to the senses even if it's a lot less capable.

Although in saying all that I did race an r35 at PowerPlay with just mild mods like titanium exhaust, tune etc and it squashed me while checking for dirt under it's fingernails. And I like to think I have a pretty fast car too. It's hard to wrap your head around the way they go watching them from the outside (brutal) vs what they seem to look & feel like from the inside (serene).
-
This is an interesting read. I personally haven't been in an r35 (would love to) but from all the countless videos I have seen of them you can see it's a much more "sanitised" experience of power and speed compared to many other cars on the road. Just mash the pedal and click the paddle a few times and you're flying, while it's still quiet and serene enough to have a conversation inside the cabin. If that's how that are in real life I can see how at times an r35 owner would crave something slightly more raw to get the heart racing.

Wasn't yours set up in that same way by JEM? Sort of goes up to 28 then scales back for the rest of the powerband? -

Yay. That's a relief. Now have to keep an eye to see if it blows again, then there's dodgy wiring. -
