Hi Guys, I swapped the engine in my 32 GTS4 a fortnight ago and getting a few teething troubles... The current biggie is that the pwer steering is not working. When we first completed the install the power steering worked, but the Hicas light was on, I found out the two systems were connected and to top up the ps fluid again, so as soon as I left the shed to buy some more fluid the power steering stopped working... I topped up the fluid and now the hicas light is off, but after a few drives the fluid level is still at the high point but I have no power steering, would I have dried out the ps fluid in the steering by driving it? or will it just take a bit of time to work its way through again? thanks muchly

That means the car is running in rwd mode (4wd means rwd? go figure), ok on an R32, not so good for R33 or R34. When you switch the car off then back on it is re-calibrating its sensors and turns the front drive back on.

Urgent Help With R32 Gtr!....
Medium Dave replied to KPs's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I was reading about someone having a similar problem recently, and it turned out to be the tyre... are the tyres the same both sides, and is the right one in good nick? seated on the rim properly? good luck - not really expert help -
First read this post: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=110270 then spend some time learning how to drive and control your car as it is, take it onto a paddock or beach, wet (closed) roads and reaserch into what different suspension components will do to affect the handling and balance of the car to drift the way you want. Then pull out a reasonably large amount of money to pour into the big black hole... suspension first, look into coilovers, swaybars, adjustable camber & caster, stiffen the chassis, get rid of the hicas, then increase power as your skills pick up. Have fun, be safe

Back in black! My Skyline is back on the road again! you couldnt wipe the grin from my face with a wild badger what a mission, 4 12 hr days, tell you what - I wont be doing that again in a hurry... Still have a few teething troubles, hicas light is on (I think I know what that might be - search button you're my hero) and I have one hose which is not quite on properly (water line down the back of the engine - need a reaaaaly long set of needle nose pliers) I am just taking it easy on the replacement engine for a few days, its hard, I saw a little boost last night on my lap around the block, the car is going "lets go" im crying "dont tempt me!" Hope to see you all on the blacktop sometime soon! Incidently do you guys know of an good roads near hobart (other than over mt wellington and grasstree) - all while obaying speed limits and being safe of course.

Ok, so I have just swapped the motor in my R32 (RB20det) and I have the leftover engine with a spun bearing and I was looking for a bit of a side project. I have been reading the massive RB30DET sticky (up to about pg 80 and counting...) and at the start I am pretty sure it said the 20 head wont fit, but later on there were a few questions which suggest people have used this head. Will I be able to use my head? I realise it will not flow as well, and compression may be too high?, but I have never rebuilt an engine b4 so I dont want to spend a whole lot of money to have it not work (my credit card has melted after this new engine) and after I get it running I could think about the 25 head, thanks in advance

R32 GTS4 - RB20det Type of Failure: Spun bearing - oil surge Factors influencing failure: A litre down on oil, round a corner 5k revs, third gear full noise, bang State and tune of engine: 3" cat back, pod filter, ran well for 15yr old Suspension and tyres: stock suspension, new 16" rubber Oil used and service interval: Castrol magnetic (daily driver) only serviced it once in the month I owned it b4 it blew... General Comments: The one time I didnt check the oil b4 going for a drive, and I find out now what they mean by a cheap car isnt cheap if you cant afford to fix it when it goes bang... The replacement engine went in this weekend - what a mission! I have never done a swap b4, but I had a friend who has, it took us 4 days. I have bought some nice synthetic oil now, and looking for a 5" oil pressure guage

R32 Gtr Front Driveshaft
Medium Dave replied to R32 Skyline's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
So... That means that the RH front wheel needs to be off the car, as does the disc and front hub?? Sorry, its just a little confusing in its description. -
Well my R32 has been parked in the shed for a little over a month with a blown engine, but its replacement will be going in this weekend with the help of a few mates - wish me luck

Hey GTST, Just from memory from what I have been reading recently in this thread - you need to add 2 psi of boost for every .2 change in cr, and the 9.1:1 will be more tourquy off boost. I could (probably am) be wrong, but I think the answer is about page 50-60ish... Oh - Cubes, nice work on the guide, as soon as my wallet is in a better mood (lots of bills) I am going to make a start on my RB30

Ok, bit of an obscure question, I am pretty much sold on the rb30det, and I have always loved the shape of the 300zx, I have seen a few pictures of z's with an rb26, so similar things have been done before, but is this a match made in hades? or will it be a case of a few custom engine mounts, bolt up the gearbox, some piping ect... Baisically would it be possible for a backyard mechanic? Sorry if this question has been answered - I have only read about 60 pages of this thread so far

There should be a little tab for a screw to go into on the top front of the indicator which sits in the front corner under the bonnet... (hope that makes sense - monday has smacked me right in the chops. I just want to go home to bed, is that too much to ask?)

Very stylish, nice work

I dont know if they are legal, but the ones I had on my old rally car rattlled - and they are sooooo annoying
-
I would check to see that the amp switches on when you turn on the head unit, then unplug the rca leads from your head unit and touch the ends of them, the subs should make a bit of noise - if that works then I would start looking at your head unit...

R32 Black Housing Headlight + Fog Light How To:
Medium Dave replied to tastyratz's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
Aaaaaagh! I melted my indicator, nooooooo- ah its not that bad. I did the seccond one in the oven for 7 minutes at 160 degrees c (not 180 - 10 min) and pulled them apart by hand to remove the orange cover, damn they look good. Now has anyone finished thier headlights? pics please Great thread guys -
I am planning to upgrade brakes/suspension first, then a few engine mods - I want a comfy drivable machine (after I replace the blown engine) there are plenty of twisty roads in tassie, dont want a stiff laggy car Good to see you are planning things right from the start

Virgin R32 Gtst4 But Not For Long. Where To Start?
Medium Dave replied to GTRNUR's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Make sure its got the good oil! and check it every time before you take it out for a hard drive!!! I got myself my first skyline same as yours, after a month of ownership - I didnt check the oil one time and boom! new engine if you please learn from my mistakes (sorry just fresh in my mind - currently tracking down a new engine) Seems to me you have a good plan of attack, dont forget the brakes, you should have some big arse four potters - which pull up very nicely with some good pads, and put it on a dyno if you want to turn up the boost, a mech will be able to tell you the safe limits before detonation oh and look into some cold air induction. Have fun -
centre console, the little vent on the driver side next to the ash tray, in behind there. The flex tube will pull off, then two screws. Its a thermistor Pretty sure anyway, anyone - feel free to correct me
-
What I would reccomend you do: pull the whole lot out and start again, run new heavy duty cables, ensure all your connections are solid, take your time with it and it will reward you. I will generally spend a day or two installing a good system, and every time it works first time
