  1. Mmmm, I have always wanted one, but most people I have spoken with say thae are unreliable and expensive to service / repair, damn, so I bought a skyline but if you want one, go for it - but be careful, get a mechanic to crawl all over it...
  2. I will take the pods if you still have them, plus how much to post to Hobart, tas, cheers Dave daveb@beer.com
  3. Take a look at the true RMS figures on the sub (if they will tell you) I wouldnt be surprised if that was 1200w in good conditions for 3.5 sec. I would imagine you will be tunig the system to play below the point of distortion anyhow Anyhow, all this gear should sound pretty smegging good, id' love to see some photos when she's done.
  4. Its a bit messy, well a lot messy, but I like to use underbody tar, costs less than $20 for a litre tin and you can just smear it on all over the inside of your doors, works a treat. Grab some rubber gloves and tape some plastic bags up the length of your arms, if it gets on your skin its a bastard getting it off. I would still grab some matting for the boot tho just for asthetics sake...
  5. Hmm, I have been having a bit of a look, and I think my woofers are just really quite deep is why I had so much trouble... they are the Jaycar - response kevlar splits, mabey taking a ruler out and doing some reaserch would have saved me some frustrations Thanks guys, now could someone please pass me a slice of that humble pie...
  6. Get outta town Well disregard my comments, go to it and good luck!
  7. I got them in there in the end, but for all the hassle, I would recommend you just put in some 5" drivers - unless of course I am the only one to have such problems, I could be wrong. Has anyone else done this? and how difficult did you find the placement? I made up some pods to fit in the original location and built the speaker mount on an angle to fit behind the stock grille and clear the glass. i can scan in the templates for the bracket if anyone is keen to have a go oh and it sounds great btw, doing it yourself is so rewarding - sounds twice as good
  8. Item: 98 Subaru Liberty - white, 5 speed, sedan, 2.2l awd, 8 months rego Location: Hobart, Tasmania Item Condition: Excelent condition inside and out, has not given me any problems (once it didnt start first time in heavy rain, I had to wait 5 secconds). I have regularly serviced this car and it is in almost stock condition - clear indicators and a cold air duct to the standard air box, easily reversed. It had a good sterio in it, so the doors are sound deadend and ready for 6.5" splits - it currently has the stock unit. It will need new tyres and brakes in about 5k tho. Reason for Selling: I bought a Skyline Price and Payment Conditions:$13,200 Negotiable (it is insured for $14,400) Extra Info:Call me if you would like a test drive or mechanic check, this car is beautiful to drive and will pass any test. Contact Details:daveb@beer.com or pref ah: 0400 996522
  9. Nice one, that was one of my questions answetred too, now could someone please tell me which fuse i need to pull to go rwd, is it the one under the dash, or under the hood? cheers
  10. The easiest way to pick up noise is to run your power lead too close to your ignition components, check this, and your earth points, rca near power. If this does not fix it you may need to fork out for a suppsessor from jaycar or wherever
  11. Hey mate, I was after a drivers side reverse light, the boot lid and a few interior parts - the surround for the a/c, sterio brackets and a passenger speaker grille, I am in Hobart so I can pick them up, is the car still at dave griffiths? and what $, daveb@beer.com if you can help, thanks muchly
  12. Thanks guy's, I think you could be right Mr Italy, I live in Tassie, and it has been raining every half hour all wekend for the last couple of weeks! no fair I tell you what tho, after driving the skyline, I could never go back, very happy!
  13. Hey guys, just wondering how worried I should be, just bought my first skyline, R32 GTS4 - bit of an impulse buy, but I still had a mechanic to check it out, I told the mec. that if it has any problems I dont want it - has to get me to work everyday, no busses where I work... He said it was fine, no problems, but now after owning it for a week I notice it does not like to be started from cold (little dab of accel after it fires, its ok) but it blows a bit of white smoke for about 10 sec then burns clean, and drives great. True it is 15 years old, is this normal wear and tear? or have I bought a major headache? It will go to my regular mechanic asap ( he dosent work weekends so I had to tust a new mech.) Advice appreciated in advance
  14. Head Unit: Kenwood MP3 $250 Front speakers: Jaycar response Kevlar splits $130 front doors fully sound deadend and sealed. Rear speakers: None Sub/s: 1 10" $60 old stock Response sub in a custom 4th order enclosure ( took me 15 hrs to design and build) Amp/s: 2x85 Jaycar for front splits $100 , 2x150 Jaycar for sub $200 I got most of this gear on special ( its already cheap tho) just to see what I can do with cheap gear and a proper installation, it was all in my subaru till I recently bought the skyline, to which it will be installed soon, but when it is up and running it sounds great - reallt loud without being harsh, plenty of nice fast, puncy bass, im really happy with it
  15. 6x9"s running off the head unit are no replacement for a sub, just run your 6"s in the front doors, disconnect your rear speakers, and save your pennies for a sub ( if you want one ) The old addage of do it right the first time really applies strongly with car audio, I have seen some shocking set-ups that cost in the long run.. Have fun Cheers
  16. I am selling my Liberty due to a new arrival, in the garage ( R32 GTS4 ) White, manual 2.2l constant awd Location: Hobart Tasmania - No postage... Item Condition: Excelent stock condition, has not missed a beat in the time I have had it, has been serviced just recently, also has 9 months rego, it does have 170k, but my flatmates 1980-something scoobie has done 400k and is still going strong. My mechanic - Terry from the automotive workshop thinks it is a great car. Reason for Selling: Well I was going to just have a bit of a look at the R32, mabey drive it and see if they are really that good (read time waster...) but I got back from driving it, with a huge grin on my face, made an offer and bingo, two cars, one garage! Price and Payment Conditions: It is insured for $14,200, so I will say $14,000 and negotiable from there Contact Details: Drop me an email at daveb@beer.com with any questions Cheers Dave
  17. Apologies if this one has had a mention, ut my personal fave - in hobart, most often spied in new town, a red lada coupe. This thing has the hand made, oversize drift wing, hand cut stickers, a stick on bonned scoop, and an exhaust that would wake the dead... I was talking to a gent at autobarn, and apparently they will sell about four stick on bonnet scoops a week, and most of them will stick them on in the car park! I got stuck talking to a girl (herself complete with fox t-shirt and 7 facial piercings) she said I should grab some blue neons, paint the lower half of my black 32 silver, throw on some stickers and "it will look really good, trust me" aaaaaagh deliver me!
  18. The converter will shift the frequency of the radio station, so your tuner will think its tuned in to a higher number than it actually is, ie the change is in the radio station, not your head unit.
  19. Just be careful, if you are talking the actual copper is 5mm across or 4g then ok go for it, you shouldnt have problems, if the 5mm includes the outer sheath or 8g, then run a new cable, and upgrade the battery -ve cable (often overlooked) It may seem like a lot of work, but you really are a lot better off Oh and the potential for current will be halved, volts are given, amps are taken
  20. No, please dont just use velcro / double sided tape, take the time to secure your box, In the event of a accident you dont want a 20 - 30 kg box flying through the cabin to add to your troubles... Also, with any sub it will sound louder from outside or even the next room at home, try it with your own home theatre. There are reasons behind the 4th order enclosure, my sub is a 10 inch inside a box about twice the size it came in, with two chambers, it kicks hard and fast
