Gtr Vs Gtst Huge Difference In Performance?
Tomek replied to boostin_r33's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
il try not too dribble for too long, had a long day and im pretty tired.. so here goes. Sydney kid makes a lot of sense in his explanation and i do agree with him.. But how many GTS-t kicking around now are properly set up? Sure the one's that go to the track owned by a serious enthusiast who has poured hours upon hours of research and trial and error development into his car may "just" (or not) have the edge over a similiarly powered GTR. But in the real world, not everyone is a guru... Owner fit's a turbo, fuel set-up, suspension, tires and brakes ... tweaks a few after market offered settings and hits the track in his modded GTS-t. While the GTR owner does his few little mods and tweaks his few little settings and goes to the track. IMO (non-bias) the GTR owner suceeds in lapping quicker times due to the package that was offered from factory and improved upon from A/M parts.. There would be a lot more fart assing around to get the GTS-t set-up "just right" in order to keep with the GTR. From my experiences the little tweaks i had to do to set my car up at the track (street tires ) were adjusting the softness/ hardness of springs and tire pressures. While my mates would be spending days in prep to get their car's (semi's) right in order to edge infront of me ultimately losing out in the end when temperature, surface and layout changed. -
No I wouldn't say i heard any odd noises from the engine.. Apart from the popping which is giving away the boost leak idea. It could be dirty injectors, but im not assed to pull them out and get them tested to knock them of the trouble shooting list. If i can't figure it out tomorrow il just drop it off to my mechanic and get him to band it and give me the true symptom. Cheers Tomek will update ...

Ok... Just got back home after spending a good 10 hours on my car (and mates 32; putting turbo on the rb20).. The afm's were rather dirty and I gave them a real good clean, with the pods I gave them a treatment to. While waiting for them to dry I loosened the silicone hoses in the engine bay pulled them off and put them back on.. Fitted it all back up and it was still missing, Anything more then 50% injector duty (stock injectors) and it would start missing. Got back home and checked the coilpacks one by one while engine was running.. They turned out fine. I then borrowed my friends coil distributor and fitted it to my car, it didn't yield any results. Got some more suggestions from mates, was going to run a test on my FPR but decided not too due to in-sufficient tools.. On the way home I noticed the car would start missing (or should i call it stuttering now) as soon as the centre console boost gauge would start registering positive boost. So atm I am 80% sure it is a boost leak.. Tomorrow Il rip off as much plumbing as accesibly possible and perhaps get new clamps, then during the week order some new silicone hoses.. Sounds like a boost leak right?

Thanks for the head up mate.. Will clean the afm's today with brake cleaner, makes a lot of sense to me now.. I haven't cleaned the K & N pods in some 12,oookm's , so they must have passed through a lot of grime to the meters.. Will update my findings later today..

The car is stuttering/ popping sounding like a BEE-R limimter (toned down a bit) dumping fuel when building boost.. Pulled out the spark plugs and replaced them with NGK BKR-6E items, was told that these are pre-gapped at 0.8mm and should do the trick.. Car kept on missing, so sparkies weren't the problem.. Next I got another set of 32 GTR coil packs. Trialed them and still missing. I have a new coil loom due to arrive early next week, but somehow i don't really suspect the loom to be playing up. My current loom is worn and a couple of the clips are broken however the connection is there and it sits tight. It's been missing on at least 3 different tanks of BP ultimate, the car drives fine until it gets to 4500rpm and over. I've looked at the intake set-up which seems fine. Tried turning down the boost At this point Im somewhat stumpted. Some people told me it could be injectors, but i don't see this to be the likely cause since it's dumping fuel and blowing black smoke so it's definately rich. My next steps could be -analyze the packs (1 of at a time) -clean the afm's (question is with what and how?) -Iridium plugs -Ripping off front bar and analyzing the whole intake -Split fire coils I've got a whole bunch of parts sitting at home ie; turbos, fuel set-up, ebc, cam gears, injectors ... I was planning on getting it all done at home over a few weekends, but now im tempted to take it to my mechanics if a spark issue is causing so much drama for me, I cbf putting up with all the twists and turns of my first 26 turbo swap adventure. Any suggestions?

Hey Cliffo, sorry for not getting back to you.. Sure you will get a nice increase in torque allowing you to get onto boost quicker.. I think that your turbos will hold you back as your running -7's yes there are a great turbo but there not power orientated and the most I have seen is 350atkw before they run out of there efficiency band. With that said the 2.8 will help wind these turbos up stupidly fast.. It would be an unreal street car and would hold it's own in tight layed out tracks.. Catch up with you soon bud. -
Not having a "normal" 35 is making me jealous, not looking forward to the release of this one

mmmm.. perhaps i should get my tickets now.. If all goes well, il get my leave to go to Sydney and then road/air trip down with the crew.. Really looking forward to this, as a group of 20 mates (1 of them which has been going over for the past 5 years, no shit) just got back Europe after going to Sensation, love parade and ibiza, keep giving me shit! I know it's not sensation, but this still plays a purpose.

Was curious on knowing what the plans for this car are.. Last I heard the owner was overseas, with hopes of getting straight back into it on arrival. This was a good year ago. Saw the car recently at a certain workshop (won't name) and was told the same thing. http://www.exvitermini.com/ has been crashed for quite some time now. Any one got some goss
