Import = Dangerous Street Racer
funkymonkey replied to spranga's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I think they were referring to the old "15 year rule" which put the keys to many a GTR and supra in the hands of 17 year olds and people with less sense than money. -
woah... an RB in a commodore. I'm sure that's a first </sarcasm> I would seriously be impressed if it was a VE commonwhore though. I can't stop myself from thinking they look awesome. Unfortunately unless they're packing an LS1 or LS7 they're kinda disappointing to drive.

might help: http://wiki.nethome.nu/doku.php/analyzer/start Should allow anyone who wants this feature to capture the IR codes from their remotes and send it to you to code, provided they have a PC and a mic. -

let me guess, the PDF had an english index? lol -
ok, I've kinda decided... Gonna get these fail fitment 18" 100 PCD Work Meister S1's: Then find some epic fitment/size 18" 114.3 PCD Meister S1's down the track once all the flaring and rolling and shit is done, swap the centres out... sell the resulting 114.3 PCD fail fitment S1's for mad money to offset costs and rock epic fitment 100PCD S1's on the golf, thus becoming the ONLY golf in the world to rock meister S1's. And just to rub my massive throbbing engorged penis in all other golf owners' eyes, I'm gonna painy the centre blue like this famous blue car: Or there's these XD9's: Fitment is OK, but width is equivalent of a semi, not a rock hard greasy boner.

you paid for the japanese service manual? Hope it wasn't any more than the cost of a CD and postage. AFAIK it was available for free to download outside of SAU. -

to keep costs down you want someone that can program PHP. You'll probably want to base your site on a Content Management System platform as it's easy to manage for a non technical person. I'd suggest something like Joomla or Drupal. If you wanna get real tricky then try and tie it in with Customer Relationship Management software like SugarCRM. That way you'll have a CMS to manage your website, and a CRM to manage your campaigns and customers (interaction, inquiries, signed up clients, communication etc.)

that car had all the plastics in the panels though... my plan is to shave it all.

I impaled a magpie on my front bar and some of him (whatever I couldn't scrape off) ended up being cooked on my radiator on the drive between sydney and melbourne. For some reason I was craving KFC the whole trip.

aaron are you guys using cyrus to code your site? mad love to craig from j-spec for getting the new look site up and running. the idea was to take it from a site listing cars to a be all to end all mecca of information for anyone wanting to import a car or even remotely interested in non AUDM cars. add to that the complexity that it needs to cater to the European and Canoodlian customers too and it just started blowing out of proportion. In the end a few of the features that were deemed "omg uleh, that's so sick" had to be trimmed out to expediate release, but keep checking back, as time goes on new features may pop up Also feel free to give craig any feedback on the website, he's worked long and hard and suffered many an aneurysm due to having to work directly with code and databases in my absence. It'd be great if he got feedback, esp that people are benefiting from the effort put into it. PS: Cheffy, yeah I heard about that Aaron Balaclava dude... supposedly he still drives a rexie. Sif mention brokers that drive rexies Cubelyfe 4 eva!

A compliancer is basically a manufacturer of the car, so any recall of a SEVS car has to be initiated by the RAW that complianced it.

How To Cover This Bit Of My Front Bar?
funkymonkey replied to JoelyMoley's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
you've got the mesh on the wrong side. make a cardboard template for the mesh to sit as flush as possible against the back piece. drill pairs of tiny holes along the line of the template on the panel cut a piece of mesh (if possible a finer mesh than what you've got) to size using the template paint the middle piece of the panel black so it blends into the under-bonnet area better thread some thin solid metal wire through one of the pairs of holes you drilled earlier loop the wires through the mesh and back through the other hole in the pair tighten the wire by twisting it. if possible spray the mesh black, so that the whole thing just blends together. It would also help if you took the time to make sure your bumper sat right. Your RHS headlight needs to go up a bit, and that gnarly gap (possibly from fibreglass sag or bad fitting of screws) between the headlights and bumper needs to disappear. -
nga wut? that's exactly what my ceffy's been doin... might check the injectors today. BBS's are cheaper out of germany, my uncle can get a set and send it down. But I don't wanna just do a Euro/US spec BBS meshie replica. I want to give it that oceanic flavour. Like when I talk to the guys inthe US/UK they always go on about how we get work meisters and GT-C and XD9's on our skylines and shit... I wanna try and replicate that uniqueness. I'm seriously considering a set of VS-XX's with gold centres in 9" and 10.5" front n back. However I'll need to run hub adapters for those, and that means I'm gonna be nervous as fuck about a wheel coming off, and also more importantly I'll lose up to 20mm of offset, which means I'll have to get like an 8 and a 9.5 or soemthing like that spaced out. Ideally I want something with max width and minimum offset that just bolts straight on. And Basti's right, I'll never pay full price/retail for something, I'm happier buying secondhand. Otherwise I'd have gone out and bought a brand new golf instead of spending $5000ish on a 2000 model.

I don't see why I should be charging anyone for taking the risk of running a firmware update that I'm playing with for my own personal use. If you choose to use it, you're on your own, and removes any liability on my part. Just like jailbreaking an iPhone or softmodding an Xbox. If I can convert the multibyte japanese characters to halfwidth japanese characters, then I might be able add English to the end of it. That's on the proviso that the Xanavi system can render half width. Ah yes. I'm doing it because I tinker with electronics, it's a hobby and an experiment. I jailbroke my iPhone within 30 mins of purchasing it, modded my XBox, run an Arudino on my R32 ECU to drive a couple of devices and change dash light colours, have an Internet controllable light and temperature control system for my house, have an RFID based dog hatch for my dog, etc. I don't believe in paying someone to do something when it's much more fun for me to do it myself, its the risk I take for what I can learn. Maybe its just a blatant disregard for warranties and gadget costs, after all if I break it, I'll just buy another one. I'm sorry if this cuts into your profit margin and business model.I also don't believe that profiteering from any hacks I make will lead to any advancement in the platform (old principle I hold from being a programmer). What's the point in replacing a closed system with a modified closed system? When I get it all working properly, I'll put up step by step DIY's so anyone can do it from scratch, or just download an ISO of the firmware and have a simpler update process (for those who don't wanna know how its done or aren't technical enough). If anything I might set it up as donationware, where people can donate some money to offset my initial costs if they found it useful. Also a few of the admin would like to have a word with you about trading on the forum without being a paid trader, and using SAU's brand in marketing your product through your networks. The first I heard of this was when I was at the compliancer and he said "ah yeah the SAU menu update... it was too expensive so I don't offer it." You can imagine my surprise. I'm not the admin that looks after traders and businesses or trademarks, so I'll leave it to them to sort it out with you. Getting back on topic, I've already had a look at the map data, and it's encoded in a proprietary Zenrin format (the guys who provide maps for JP, EU and US). Decoding this would take a fair while, but we'll see how we go. So far my plan was to just get the bootscreen to display a custom image, and the menu in english for ease of use. I'll tackle maps after that.As far as the process is concerned, if it is successful, then maybe further down the track I'll have a look at doing the other Xanavi units (V36 etc). Its never going to be a priority though, as I don't own one and hence no urgency on my part to get it working. With all that said, this is a project I'm doing for myself, so I'll be working according to my own timeframes, which means the rest of you guys shouldn't wait on me to get it working or for updates or for support. That is the difference between free and a paid product.

on the rear I'd like around 10" +25 or something like that. this is the colour the car is atm. Fucking euro's running gay bolt patterns and reverse mounting hubs.
-
they come with 6.5 +30 or some shit. After all the measurements I did I can fit 9" +25 to 9" +30 in the front with some rolling and so on. This will give me minimum offset on maximum width. The rears aren't an issue, there's plenty of clearance and space to fit up to 11".
