funkymonkey replied to energiser's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)

Should Bass Junky Change The Colour Of His Car
funkymonkey replied to Bass Junky's topic in Victoria
MP1 (1 pearl colour) and MP2 (3 pearl colours) are both relatively simple pearl based paints (read: cheap to get and easy to get sprayed). MP3 is a layered chameleon paint... lot harder to get done right and a lot more expensive. I've got a few litres of MP2 mixed up sitting in the workshop... just need to put the kit on the car and I can use it. -
Importing A Road/drift Car
funkymonkey replied to danoz's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
Freight's around $1800, duty depends on how much you spend on the car etc. There is no hidden costs, well, that depends on who you use. Sometimes during compliance you get stung with cost of new brake pads and tyres, but if you're gettin a race import then there's no such thing as compliance. For an R32 GTR I'd suggest buying a regular lightly modded (that can get thru compliance) R32 GTR, and bringing it in under the SEVS scheme, and then modifying it yourself in Australia... its cheap enough here. The cost of modded R32's are still pretty high in japan, plus you have to compete with buyers from the UK New Zealand, most of Europe, the Middle East, Hong Kong and Canada. If you were to get one thru SEVS you can register it for road use whenever you want, which is great for the resale value. Race imports can NEVER be registered for road use. Modded R32's range from as low as 10k landed for one that's been thrashed to within an inch of its life and will most probably need a new engine after you thrash it that extra inch.... and as high as 23k+ for highly modded ones (eg: this, this, and this). If you're asking what license you need to get, then you're a long way away from being able to bring in a race import (it takes about a couple of years to get all the necessary licenses that let you get a race import). Then you need to show active participation in official events, and a demonstration of why you NEED to have a special import to compete. king buyer also comes with really crappy service, a redundant website that lists cars weeks after they're sold etc... the list goes on and on. basically they're a japanese dealership that's realised that if you show some whitey's from the US, UK, Australia etc some eyecandy they'll pay thru the nose for em (so they WILL milk you for all you've got). 90% of the time when you contact em the car's sold (long before they're listed), and they'll show you some "alternates" that are just as good... well in their eyes anyways. The cars you see on their site is just bait that's been prettied up -
*greatly amused by the number of military issue number plates seen on fully sick JDM tyte cars doin the rounds on ebay* if you really want a numberplate that fits the hole in your car, then rego your car in South Australia, they do custom plates in JDM Tyte dimensions. but don't go gettin the poor girl to take plates off for you, if she gets caught she'll go thru japanese bureaucratic hell.

some of you guys may not like their simulated stuff, but the guys at drag tag are actually doin the community up north n west a service... last month they organised a swap meet at their premises in their huge carpark (nothing to do with the drag tag machines) where you could buy and sell gear for other import owners... mind you they do promote their business, but they also wanna put back into the community that they're involved in. Most of the guys who work in the workshops in the campbellfield area rock up after work to the tuesday meet, and they usually drive silvias, skylines, or nissan engined commonwhores Just come for the snags n the people, not for the video games That said I don't think I'll be there on tuesday... bloody birthday dinners.

Why Are R32 Gtst's So Overpriced?
funkymonkey replied to R-SPEC's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
R32 GTSt's and R33 GTSt's go for different prices in japan... as you'd expect them to... however when you're at the barrel bottom scraping end of the market (around 10k landed and complied) the initial purchase price does SFA to the overall cost as the cost of shipping, compliance, taxes and duty far outweigh the original cost of the car. This means that even if you were given a car for FREE in japan, it'd cost you about 8k to have it landed n complied. -
actually it was done at Driftline using a very sharp object and a air compressor to clean it out. I was bored while changing the oil on my car. the horror looks on customer's faces when I took off perfectly good indicators and started attacking em axe murderer style. funny thing was one of the guys missed my whole "backyard mod" process and offered to buy em off me for $150 each. shoulda sold it to him... but my conscience thought better of it.

haven't had time to pop em in the mail yet. will do it tomorrow morning hopefully (if I'm not passed out from tonight's festivites )

Should Bass Junky Change The Colour Of His Car
funkymonkey replied to Bass Junky's topic in Victoria
millenium jade reminds me of a mitsubishi magna colour... i'm sorry, but what in the f**k was nissan thinking? -
Yeah but for the price you pay for some starcorps you could get a set of secondhand work equips thru any one of the used parts importers these days... I'm yet to see a skyline with starcorps that are the right offset... they're a nice looking rim, but they have terrible fitments. starcorps are great if you wanna buy retail and don't want used or wait for an import, but that's about all they're good for.

they stopped after issue 21. "GT-R mag" is still goin, but club skyline is no more... and once they went out of production, the prices of issues 1, 2 and 3 shot thru the roof. Rotary mag, honda tuner, and Evo mag, all of which are published by the guys who do club skyline, on the other hand still have new issues... so its not that the publisher closed down... maybe lack of sales?
-
Mitsubishi stopped making Evo's after the Evo IV (if I had to own one I'd probably own a IV) ... which unfortunately you can't import. Evo's these days are made by Lavazza, along with the beverages that their owners drink. lol Not really a big fan of the 7... altho after being in an 8 that we brought down I can see why people are so swayed by them. GTS4 with laggy AWD system FTW.
-
yup can get hyperbikes as well... BTW... cover car and writeup of Drift Tengoku (Drift Heaven) for December is a AWD stagea

lol I think my whole "off to NS" remark for newbies that jump on this forum with no clue or blatantly stupid ideas might be at the root of this issue (based on the fact that NS seems to have a lot more tolerance for em than we do). not strocking my own cock, but I think once I said it a couple of times some of the postwhores sorta thought it was cool to do so as well. Meh, I'm active on NS and I go to the meets and know most of the melb regs.... they're quite nice people once you get to know em
-
the club's being filled up with skinny latte sipping pansy boys that need active yaw control and auto knob stroking so that they look like pro drivers while tackling the loose dirt tracks of st kilda and the snow filled wastelands of toorak. that's what's happening to the club.

Purchasing from J-spec
funkymonkey replied to thrtytwo's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
just put an R34 front on the stoogea and call it a day! Go on... you know you wanna. -
we've imported a few now... mainly for collectors. From the US and from japan. Although we do more corvettes than camaros. They come in under the 1988 and prior rule. So compliance is minimal as far as mechanicals are concerned. If the car is over 30 years old you can keep it LHD and drive it on the road that way... but if its a younger car then it need to be converted to RHD, we have compliancers that can do that all for ya if need be.... albeit at a much higher price than the cost of compliance for a 30yo muscle car. Check out this puppy: http://www.j-spec.com.au/list/4434

The regulars of NS are a good bunch of guys and girls, very organised, very helpful, and very knowledgable. Unfortunately its the n00bs on NS that have something to prove so are always at the root of attention seeking activites. In any case, if you want to get into legit drift practice days and comps check out www.vicdrift.com.au the boys that run it are members of these forums as well, so I'm sure they'd be glad to get you into it. Also check out insanedrifters, a bunch of guys that drift pretty good even though they lack in the looks department They've been at it since the street days, and now on the track as well. Top blokes to talk to if you wanna get into it... they're not sponsored heaps or loaded, they work on their own cars and have gotten good bit by bit. And lastly, come visit us at driftline (www.driftline.com.au) if you want help setting up your car, introductions to people who do it seriously, or generally to get a feel for what the community is like. There's usually someone around who's happy to talk to you (most likely an insanedrifter or a vicdrifter).

i couldn't parallel park in chap let alone drift. worst street ever to have dinner on.
