No Compliance Plate
funkymonkey replied to tdr's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
15 yr old imports aren't regulated on a national level like the SEVS scheme, so the rules are pretty adhoc and at the discretion of the registry/workshop. Even the rules for compliance vary between states and engineers... eg in VIC you don't need to change the seatbelts, you can retain 15 yr old japanese rubbish, wheras in NSW you have to turf em and get the ugly taxi buckles. -
i'd tend to believe in this day and age a matter of financial figures, who can offer what and for how much, and then the contract is awarded to that group. Even though Renault and Nissan share finances, their departments may still operate as totally seperate entities.

I always qualify shit I'm not sure by "I think"...I think you suck teh wang. I dunno why, I was never a big fan of the Z Tunes, so a somewhat lack of attention to detail. I'm surprised Nismo didn't prebuy the GTRs before releasing the model. Coz if I lived in japan and owned a car that Nismo WANTED... I'd be asking a small fortune for it. f**k em... I want a piece of the pie too.

Converting The Cef To Gas
funkymonkey replied to funkymonkey's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
to be honest an RB20DET is probably not the most fuel economic engine to start with. Being a turbo engine it chews up ANY fuel, LPG or otherwise. I could probably get a prius for like 14-15k and fark the ceffy off for 10k. I've already owned an RB20DE GTS, which did 10k per litre, but it was gutless... so having owned one, I wouldn't wanna go back to one. Theoretically gas systems should be no less efficient than petrol systems. I've driven dual fuel systems, my gf had a dual fuel magna and that was such a pain to use... but I'm told gas only systems these days are sophisticated enough to work properly with no issues. This is more an exercise in being different, and slightly thinking financially. After having spoken to Gas Research their waiting list is till May next year... but a little bird tells me they might do mine a lil sooner if I go with em -
you might as well try to put an F1 race car through the SEVS compliance procedure instead of the Z Tune. Only option would be to get one that's already complied in AU, send it back, have it built and then come back... Or move there for a year n bring it back. I think from Nismo's selection criteria, the car had to be an immaculate R34 GTR with under 40,000km on the chassis, and the 100 that they were going to build were already purchased. So basically you'd have to buy the stock on from Nissan (or import it on a "loan") then return it, have it modded, then ship it back as a previously complianced car.

speak to gaffa on the forum (try pm'ing him) he just converted his RB20E R32 GTE to an RB25DE. Guys ease up on the "omg wtf sms talk", I think you made the point after the 10th post saying it. Now help answer the question that was asked or leave the topic be.

Converting The Cef To Gas

I hope your pimp hand is strong Cislowski! Nothing short of amnesia will make me change my mind... well, unless its way too financially unfeasible. Besides... first RB engine outside of a Commonwhore to run on gas (altho if u squint teh cef looks like a fully sik calais). -

I can't believe there's ever gonna be a need to show one upmanship when you live with a guy who drives a Lada. -
Converting The Cef To Gas
funkymonkey replied to funkymonkey's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
ahh yes, gas research, that's where Danny (autotrust) on the forums, used to work. Didn't know they did a VL (it is GAS747 accrding to google). Will call in some favours n see what they can hook me up with. CC... the conversion is about $3500 for a total system, and the rebate is just under $2000 or so. $1500 is the savings I'd make over petrol if I refilled every week for a year. After that its money in the pocket. Plus once its converted to gas I can drive back n forth between melb n syd too for almost the cost of flying -
No Compliance Plate
funkymonkey replied to tdr's topic in Importing, Compliance, Modification Laws & Regulations
AW11's would have come in under 15 year rule, so no compliance plate is issued. It should have a VIN on the body or rivetted onto a plate and an import approval for when it was imported though. If it dosen't have a VIN stamped on there, then take it to a VACC workshop and give them the old reg papers and the import approval. The VIN of the car is usually 6U90000XXXXXXXXXX where the X's are made up using the car's original japanese VIN (which is less than the required 17 for the australian system). In any case the import approval should have your original VIN and your australian VIN (as this document is the link). The workshop should be able to stamp your car if the documents are all in order. -
Converting The Cef To Gas
funkymonkey replied to funkymonkey's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
oops! yup, LPG, not natural gas. -
Hey guys... considering the price of petrol and the government rebates on LPG conversion it seems like a viable option to convert the A31 Cefiro to gas. Its only used for daily driving, and 99% of the time by my dad, so performance is not an absolute requirement, alto retaining some of the factory wooshka it has now would be nice, as its currently a nice ordinary looking automatic car with some get go. I haven't heard of anyone doing this yet, and I can't seem to find anyone running an RB engine on 100% natural gas. Even though performance isn't a requirement, reliability is a must. I've used dual fuel systems before where the timing gets messed up etc, but I'm hoping with it being a 100% gas system it won't have those issues. Does anyone have any ideas on how things like EFI or a turbo will affect the gas system? Can it be done? Will it be reliable? Is an RB engine capable of burning gas instead of atomised fuel? Also a slightly more "just out of curiosity" question... can you plumb an N2O line into the gas line and run a higher oxygen rich mixture? *schemes on adding NAAAWS bottles to dad's ceffy*

Rare Skyline Register
funkymonkey replied to glenndrayton's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
bugger me... just after I've sold my R32 V Selection II GTS Haven't met anyone else in Australia who owns one... so its sorta rare... even though it's just a late model R32 GTS non turbo with extra options. -
Looking at converting the cef to gas in keeping with it being a taxi... hehe seriously, there's a gov't rebate on changing to a gas system... and I know they were used as taxi's in NZ... and all our taxi's run on gas in australia, so maaaaaybe some cef's in NZ run on gas too? The car's only used for daily driving, and its 99% used by my old man, so performance is not an issue, only reliability and economy. In any case, can an RB20DET be converted to run on natural gas? will a varying air intake rate (due to turbo) and variable fuel injection (due to EFI) be compatible with a gas system? Of course once that's done... then the next step would be to convince my old man to run som NAWWWS mixed in with the natural gas for some added wooshka.

They're called Drift-tek or some limp wristed shit like that, around $350 a pop or something like that, and fit under GTSt's perfectly. Available in 17x8, 17x9, 17x9.5 in Gold, or Silver. www.koyawheels.com lists the contact details. They're not 18's but they're cheap cast rubbish that look decent, I might get a set for my car just so I don't worry about scratching up the SSR's during regular road use... they're cheap enough. IMHO they're the new Impuls... every teenager's goin for the "OMG DISHHHHH" look with the impuls or "OMG DRIFTTTTTTZOR" look with these things. -
Engine Conversion For A Non-nissan
funkymonkey replied to qikstagea's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Auction/sell/insurance job the capri. Take resulting money and spend it on the Stoogia. Failing that whack a Mazda Familia GTR engine in the sucker. Those things are lil rockets. If you want something a lil outside the square a 1.6L 4AGE out of a latemodel corolla, or an engine out of a starlet GT turbo are also nice lil pocket rockets and both come in east-west config. -
OK, I better come clean... the reason that I asked if they were genuine and where you got them from is because I had a mould taken off my genuine BN Sports Widebody R32 kit which I brought in from japan personally... to make Adam's widebody drifter (red R32 pictured above), and possible replacement panels in the future etc cuz driftcars tend to need them . Somehow a couple of workshops managed to get copies from this mould or the initial test copy before Driftline (which is the only workshop I authorised to use the mould) could inform the fibreglasser that they weren't to sell to anyone else as per their agreement. Now, my concerns are that... a.. you've been sold a copy off my kit's mould and been told its an orginial b.. the fibreglasser is still selling the kit to companies other than Driftline, in which case they'll have a few words coming their way I'd like you to check properly to see if there's a BN Sports sign in the fibreglass on the reverse of the front bumper to make sure its genuine. Again, sorry for the drama, but yeah... just a lil intrigured... as the only widebody R32's sporting BN Sports kits are all in melb and are made by shops in the same area... just raises some eyebrows.
-
I might just... been looking for a BN Sports widebody kit for a while Is it genuine or a copy? Did they take any moulds off yours? Altho I dunno why you didn't buy the BN Sport widebodykit that's made for the GTR (allows you to retain GTR indicators and the rear skins are suited to the GTR's guards).
-
So auto king imported it for you? can they import any other kits for R32's?
-
just out of curiosity where'd you get the kit and who fitted it? You're in melb. looks nice in phantom purple.

agreed... never go by mileage... i dunno, i've noticed int he stag community that the 100,000km mark seems to be a holy grail... a lot of people look at a car, think its a bargain, and suddenly change their minds when they see the mileage. Surely major service on a stag at 100,000km is the same as on a skyline? What's putting people off?
