Some B***h Keyed My Car In Front Of Fast Eds!
fordman351 replied to Slowpoke's topic in Western Australia
Shit, that's no good dude ! This [keying peoples cars] seems to be an ever growing trend. Several of my mates' cars have been scratched in the last few weeks. It should be a Jail-able offence to do this to someones pride and joy. I know if someone did it to my car, they wouldn't see the light of the next day. -
Drool! I really like that! Read my post in your "For Sale" thread.
-
Hmm....have my heart set on a 32, but i'll come in and say hi at around about lunch time tomorrow. You might be able to convince me otherwise haha.
-
Will do Trav, thank's for the heads-up! EDIT: Faaark! It's very err.....blue haha. Very nice mod list (and excellent price), but i would like something i can build up myself, so i can get a bit of experience under my belt. Buuuut.....if i cant find something in time, who knows. I don't think its 'just' Ford and Commodore drivers that are converted easilly . I'm one of these people that likes all [good] cars and after 6 Fords i'd like to try something a little different.
-
Haha, evil, evil thing's they are. I'm sure that 32 was the devil in disguise. I think i sold my soul haha.
-
Haha, yeah for such a big car the fairmont is surprisingly nimble, for what it is. But i have been burning around in a mate's 32 yesterday arvo and im hooked! They're sooo fun to drive and bloody quick once you get going!
-
It certainly would have been different, that's for sure. But i don't have the time or extra money to have the car off the road for so long while everything gets sorted out or if anything goes wrong with the conversion (which is highly likely) and as someone said earlier, it will be easier just to start off with something that is already turbo'd.

Quick Factory Boost Guage Question
fordman351 replied to Damo Monster's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Manifold vaccuum is exactly that, negative pressure (vaccuum) in the inlet manifold. The engine, while idling, does not produce enough exhaust gasses to spin the turbine, therefore the engine just draws air without the compressor forcing it in. Basically like an N/A engine would. I think i just made a fool of myself , feel free to correct me, i'm here to learn too . -
Thanks for everything guys, i'm giving up on the idea now . I'm going to take the leap of faith and come over to the dark side. When it will happen, i don't know. Im heading to perth on Saturday to check out an extremely clean and unmodified R32. I'll let you know the outcome... Anyone want to buy a Fairmont?
-
Awesome stuff guys, thankyou all for your help! I have sent off some PM's and e-mails enquiring on the engines and gearboxes, so we will see what comes back. Although alot of people have been trying to covince me (in a nice way haha), not to put the RB in my Fairmont, i'm really looking for something completely original and i don't think the weight of the car is going to hamper performance. A nice timing and boost tune should get it to boogie on down the quater a bit better . In other words, im not put off.....just yet

Okay, where do i start? djr31: You are correct! It was the BF that came with the Dual VCT, my mistake. The AU HP 6's did come with VCT, but it was only for the exhaust side of things and didn't respond well to modifications. PHATR32: The V8 BTR auto's are no different to the 6's except for a longer input shaft, the rest of the gearbox is EXACTLY the same and cannot be manualised and does not have a seperate ECU. Stock gearbox and engine management is all combined into the one main ECU. frOst: $13000 is to turbo the 4.0L completely and reliably, (i may have overstated the price for the actual turbo kit) it's $5000 for this (stage 4): http://www.snortperformance.com/ford_falco..._turbo_kits.htm $5000 Then theres the aftermarket ECU (EMS Stinger quoted from GURU racing in Bunbury) at $2500 wired up, tuned and dyno'd. $5000+$2500 Theres the fact that my engine wont be able to take the new forces from being boosted, so a freshen-up/rebuild (rods, rings, pistons, gaskets etc) and a hone and machine is another say....$3000. $5000+$2500+$3000 Fuel system including injectors, regulator, fuel pump, surge tank and whatnot (it's late i cant be bothered thinking ), say another $1500. $5000+$2500+$3000+$1500 IC piping is not included in the kit, so aluminium piping to be fab'd will be (i guess) around the $800-$900 mark. $5000+$2500+$3000+$1500+$900 A few tweaks to the gearbox (which has already been rebuilt with kevlar faced bands and clutches, recalibrated S5 solenoid) and a large transmission cooler, allow $500. $5000+$2500+$3000+$1500+$900+$500 (whoops! Theres the magic 13k!) Then when something goes bang, like either the tailshaft or diff, theres another $600 for a second hand 3.45 LSD. Starting to sound very expensive.....

Hey Michael, great info, thanks for your help! I'll drop him a line and see what he can do for me.

G'day guys, a few valid points there, ill pay them! But i will disagree on some, the EL series Fairmont only weighs 1540kg, which really isn't that much more than a R33, it's the BA's that are the lardies at 1800kg plus and not to mention the GTP at 1950kg's! . I have looked into turbo kits for the Ford 4.0L, but for a half descent setup that is going to perform with any gusto will be around the $13000-14000 mark and that isn't including a driveline that will cope with the power. Manual gearboxes (as lovely as they are) are out, i dont really want to have to pull the dash out to install a new pedal box, and installing a clutch master cylinder will be a horror job. I do realise the RB's are a rev happy engine, that doesnt bother me if i have to push a bit more to get the car moving, but really, is that going to be an issue? Slotting in a BA turbo engine isn't a simple affair either (or cheap, try $9000 for engine only!), considering they dont have distributors (like mine does), it means that i am going to have to purchase an aftermarket ECU anyway to run the 6 coilpacks, knock sensors and twin VCT. A hole will have to be cut into the bonnet for head clearance (BA 6 cylinder heads are MASSIVE compared to the SOHC 12 valve). Shayde: maybe it was the way i worded that sentence, but yes you are correct, engine/gearbox mounting and electrics are all there really is to putting an engine in, i never said i had it all sussed, far from it. I don't know much about RB Nissan engines, hence why i came here to find out about them from more knowlegable people. I know it will be a bit of work, but again, i cant see how it is going to be so expensive... Getting rid of the Fairmont and getting into a Skyline is NOT an option, after all the time, money and effort put into it to get it from the run-down state it started off as. Thanks for the helpful info guys, it has given me some food for thought, but im still convinced it wont be as complex as some poeple think. Thanks again! Cheers - Matty Ps: thanks Alpha for the grapics!

Haha, that is just a quick chop i did of my car, looks good, i'll eventually get it that way, but i have to concentrate on performance and reliability at the moment. To turbo my car using the 4.0L, i have worked out to be around about the 13-14k mark. $6000 for a 700hp (GT35/40R turbo) kit including exhaust manifold, external gate, BOV, oil and water lines, FMIC, fuel regulator and dump. Taking into account that IC piping is not included, so theres another $800. Another $2500 for an aftermarket ECU wired and tuned. Now, we have to consider that my engine has done the nasty side of 240000km's, so to either rebuild with stronger spinning bits and a light machine, i'm looking at around the 2-3k mark. If i go the BA twin cam 24 valve road, i have to modify the 'K' frame anyway and cut a hole in my bonnet for clearance as the head on the BA engines is B.I.G, and even just the 182kw standard BA 4.0L engines start from around $3000. With all this power, the poor BTR auto is going to s**t a Midland brick (they can't handle much power reliably), so there goes some more money....... A friend informs me that a Neo/automatic front-cut can set me back around the $3500-$4000 mark and allowing about $2000-$3000 for modifications and fabrication, it just seems to me to be the way to go. $8000 for an already turbo engine and the originality factor would be right up there .

Hey guys and gals, you may have seen my plea for help in the WA For Sale section, but i'm after an RB25DET Neo for my EL Fairmont. "Nissan engine in a Ford"!? i hear you say? Yes, that is correct! The 4.0L engine in my Fairmont at the moment is getting extremely tired and after 240000kms of solid spirited driving, its getting a tad worn out. So what better way to stir the bees but to do something (i don't think) has ever been done before to an Australian Ford. I have a feeling the conversion won't be that hard, due to the MASSIVE ammount of aftermarket gear available for imports, the only thing i really have to worry about will be the engine and gearbox mounting, tailshaft and electrics. I do, unfortunately, have to keep the standard Ford EEC5 (ECU) as it controls all the body electrics, like the instrument cluster ETC. Maybe there would be some way i can 'tie-in' the standard ECU with the Skyline ECU (this is going to be fun!) I intend to use a Skyline automatic gearbox, as coupling the engine to the standard Ford BTR will be an absolute nightmare, and it is waaaaay to expensive to have a new input shaft made up to suit. So i guess one of my questions will be, can the Skyline auto be fully manualised? Or will i have to use the Skyline ECU to control it all? I will have to put in some sort of aftermarket shifter (ie: B&M), as it would be too hard to make custom linkages to the gearbox. Does anyone have any pictures of an RB25DET engine and/or gearbox (on a stand)? It would be handy to see where all the engine mounts are located and what shape the sump is so i can take into account for modifying the Ford 'K' frame for the engine to fit. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated, and i hope to make this a happening thing if i can get all the relevant information together. Anyway, enough talk, i'm out of here for now ('till tomorrow ), and again, thanks in advance for any help you can provide! Cheers - Matty

Whoops! He who uses the 'Search' button, has handy information: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...howtopic=141454

Hey Ashley, thank's for the heads up! Sorry to sound like a complete nOOb (i am a seasoned Ford forumer lol), but i'm in a different territory using a different language now. Im used to "4.0L single cam 12 valve fury " and "thumpin' 'charged 302W's " haha. Maytech, is that an import tuning company? I'm guessing they're in Perth, as there's nothing down in this neck of the woods. Thank's for the support for the conversion too, i'm hoping i can get a bit of publicity out of it, but not aiming for anything at the moment, we'll just get it all in and running before i go do crazy twisted things to it . Cheers - Matty

Hey guys! I have been cruising the forums for a while now, but it is almost time for the engine in my Fairmont to pass on to the great engine scrapyard in the sky, so i might do something completely different and throw in an RB25DET or RB25DETneo (if i can find one haha). I do realise it will be a monster of a job, but thats what you have to put up with to be original. If anyone knows of or can get hold of an R33 gtst or R34 gtt front cut (ECU, loom, automatic gearbox, etc), drop us a line! Cheers - Matty

Gee thanks for the welcomes guys. Dsturbd, thanks for pointing out about the wheels. The offsets are different though yay? Also i think you work across the road from me (wont go into detail), i saw your '31 parked up there....
-
There...changed just for you . Thanks for that write-up, very informative.
-
Haha thanks, im sure you will ! Ill have a search around for that thread you were talking about. I have an idea what id like to spend...from searching around places like imports101, they have 1990 R32's for $14K. But then it all depends on what i can get for my Fairmont too. Id like to keep the changeover minimal...

Hey guys, the names Matt, im nearly 21 and i reside in Bunbury WA . Since i have met a few people who own Skylines and 180's around bunbury, im really getting into the jap car scene and have been converted. I have been blind to how Skylines are so modifiable and the massive ammount of aftermarket gear available . I currently own a 1997 EL Ford Fairmont and it is time for a change (please dont flame me for owning a Ford, im not closed minded like alot of Ford and Holden people around). I have been cruising the backstreets of this forum for a while keeping out the way so i thought i'd let myself be known. I have been a member of another well know Ford forum for a few years now so i know how the forums work and i will make the 'search' button my friend and will try not to post up any useless threads. At the moment my Fairmont is sort of up for sale and im looking around for a manual R32 GTSt for the right price (any tips you can throw my way for buying a used Skyline would be kool). Anyway, enough dribble, im off to do my research and if anyone here is from Bunbury look out for me, wave me down and have a chat! Cheers-Matt
