  1. i remember reading a very detailed thread on this - basically u dont want to do it coz its a crazy $10000 max fine or something like that... and cops can tell by tapping on the cat if its hollow or not...
  2. nice - thanks.
  3. if the turbo is hotter how will the actual exhaust gases be hotter? its coming from the engine and spends 1 millisecond in the volume of the turbo - after which it may be 0.1 deg hotter but thats not going to matter since the gas has already done its work. The larger exhaust works to increase the speed of the gas because there is a larger volume for the gas to expand into as it passes through the turbine - nothing to do with the temperature (except for the fact that the gas will be cooler due to the expansion). there would be no reasonable way to make the exhaust gas hotter since it gets its heat from the compression and combustion within the engine cycle.
  4. okay dont take this personally but that doesnt make sense - the turbo essentially uses the energy of a hot, fast moving gas to spin a turbine. The key principle is that the exhaust gas is moving with a high velocity out of the engine, through the turbine and out the exhaust. Sure, the temperature of the actual exhaust gas affects the turbo's performance by the fact that a hotter gas has more internal kinetic energy and therefore more energy to spin the turbine... but the actual temperature of the turbo doesnt increase its performance - well not as u explained it. unless as i mentioned/asked before - the turbo's design tolerances are optimal for a certain "hot" temp range - meaning that it just functions better when its hot.

    Movember

what dedication! ur growing a MOno too? hahah only j/k
  6. thanks everyone for ur input - i dont really get why a max temp difference across the turbo makes it perform better... unless it has something to do with the design tolerances. I have a bonnet scoop pretty much directly above the turbo so it has cool air forced down on it whilst driving.... guess ill put the heat shield back on or get a beanie. is this a good turbo beanie? http://www.agpturbo.com/product.php?produc...=257&page=1 lol but seriously - wheres a good place to get one from?
  7. if i were u, id take off the gearbox connection, hook a multimeter up to the wires and spin the little nob in the gearbox connector by hand to see what output the wires have... u mite see that the red/black combo puts out current in one "spinning" range and the black/yellow in another... i.e. u may need to connect both the red/yellow onto the green... BUT this is just my thoughts...
  8. Hey ive done a pretty comprehensive search but not found much... Just wondering if anyone knows of a link/site with a summary of part numbers for an NICS rb20det? this link is pretty good for r32 rb20det stuff but not sure how much is relevant for the older type... http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...showtopic=18066
  9. hmmm what do u mean by "near" coz the closest thing to my turbo area is two air con pipes (with mangy insulation) they are about 20cm away from the exhaust side..
  10. (Did a search but couldnt find anything specific) I took of the turbo heat shield today and in the process screwed up one of the bolts... so i left it off. i just wanna know if it will make much difference if the heat shield is there or not? i mean it seems like it would be a benefit for the turbo... anyone left it off and had any problems with melting nearby wires etc?
  11. apparantely my car is going 180km/hr in my garage! speedo's been stuffed for a few weeks now.
  12. start saving for a rb25 box coz it will start to destroy ur standard box with that power - especially with the new clutch!
  13. lMAO who stores makeup in a hole under the carpet in the boot? was it a white powder?
  14. circulate ur air con into your intake
  15. i think i have the solution for you ill trade u my 1996 hyundai lantra for it - its definately non-turbo - fun for your whole family! i know its not an equal trade so... throw in a few hundred for me too.
  16. just get dyno'd in a wind tunnel
  17. Hi just wondering if anyone has attempted doing this - rewiring from the alternator to the battery - if so, what wire did u use and how'd u go about it??? or any tips etc?? im gonna change the alternator and think i may as well do some good quality rewiring to make sure its actually getting to the battery. its for an r32 rb20det but im guessing it would be pretty much the same for all skylines...
  18. exactly - but a bigger cooler will just make it lag more also.
  19. easy solution to westfield problems - let them know that u will be contacting today tonight if they dont start getting with it. or even better if u know a lawyer get them to write a letter and u will have full cooperation - they just need a little kick thats all. my friend had some issues with them/getting security tapes but after a letter they got onto it.
  20. Hey i just wanna hear from ppl who may have seen or done this - what was the lag, power etc like? opinions? plus anything else u mite have done to improve the lag/performance of this combo? Please dont give me ur opinions if u have never driven or seen a rb20det with a GT2860R.
  21. there is this putty called "quiksteel" or something similar to that - its awesome for repairing anything metal... as long as its not the chassis i guess. I used it to repair a hole in my piping. It comes as a putty and u can form it over the hole and it goes rock hard after 10mins. it can take a lot of load, bonds very well as long as everything is clean and can take a lot of heat too (u can repair radiator with it - 200+degC) just make sure u take off the section of pipe and make sure the inner surface is smooth and that there is not going to be any loose bits in the flow before u go for a drive.
  22. why so "!!!" over plastic compressor wheels? - nylon is a polymer also - kevlar is a polymer and its stronger than steel and used as bullet proofing - "plastics" dont all necessarily have the same properties of a shopping bag.
