  1. One thing blurs the lines... laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. Everyone here's pretty much referring to turbo's not 100kW corolla's, so when you're talking turbo power levels the AWD will basically either win or get kaned. Why.. cos either the AWD driver launched from high enough revs that the car didnt fall off boost, and subsequently got off the line a shitload quicker than the gts-t driver.. OR, the AWD driver drove away from idle, and the skyline gts-t driver has since got well into second before the AWD pig has been able to get on boost. basically, it comes down too.. win = launch = new gearbox There are alternatives.. i.e. slip the clutch from 4k or something.. but again it involves repair bills.
  2. Does anyone know what the deal is with insurance at the track? I know you're regular insurers won't touch you, but is there someone who does, or any arrangements if you do have a crash? I'd looove to get the STI out there early next year...would sure as hell beat "enjoying" the lag driving to work every day!
  3. What are you talking about??? "Yeah this BOV is recirculating... with no recirculating pipework"
  4. Hey dan bummer about the defect... I just knew he was gonna come say hi... I spotted him on West Tce but the landcruiser ride height of the STI versus ur skyline meant I didn't get much attention from him, but then as soon as you rock up and followed me around, he flipped on the indicator and came n said g'day. As for the catch can, don't quote me on this, but I heard that it's legal as long as you have braided hosing - probably something about having boiling hot oil floating around the engine bay. And with the turbo timer, anyone know if dan'll have to remove the timer only, or the harness as well.. i'm asking from the perspective of the regency inspectors, as depending on where they check, you might be able to throw the wiring back behind your stereo or wherever it can fit out the way. Anyway, your little canary pretty much ensured I had a damn uneventful drive home - wasn't gonna even let the boxer sniff some boost in town cos of how many cops there were!!!
  5. Cheers Basically the bass cab i'll get to suit will be 46 cm x 45 cm x 58 cm So by the sounds of things it should fit...
  6. Question.. does that box go from the boot floor right up i.e. is 23.5 cm the height of the boot?? Cheers again
  7. Hey people, I know this is unrelated to skylines but what the hell, I'm not a member on a silvia forum... The problem is I'm about to retire the venerable blown calais, and first pick for me is a spec R-GT s15, but the thing is I need to be able to carry my bass amp in the car. Now, what I'm wondering is if someone could please do me a big, big favour and measure the boot of a friends / their S15 just for the depth and height... If anyone could that would be greatly appreciated (I'd do it myself but there's not many advertised for sale at dealers and I work during the hours they'r open so I can't even get to the things!!) Cheers!!!
  8. Yeah, can't really agree there either. The LS1 is an absolute animal of an engine, but in a different way so are the RB engines.. so don't take that as the signal to start yet another brickwall debate about the two. Madaz you said it's torque isn't too bad, but actually its the other way around.. at release the ls1 was heavily criticised for it's lack of torque and the way its power grew with revs.. so imagine when you accentuate that effect with a cam!!! As for the sound of the car, personally I think it is the shithouse low-frequency response of the video camera's microphone that makes the v8 sound not too great.. I bet if you heard that in real life, it would be easy to appreciate. Also, as for monaro's being slow, this particular one obviously has a decent cam which can be heard from it struggling to idle... LS1's get bloody huge power figures from just a cam and the usual supporting mods. (Please RB lovers, don't perceive this as an attack on jap motors, but it's the truth... a half-decently built 5.7L better make some power!!!!)
  9. ummm...correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason that commodore owners say "it's been chipped" is in reference to the Delco ECU's used in all the 3.8L V6 motors, where tuning is done by replacing a memory chip (memcal). Not to be picky, but "it's been chipped" is a pretty darn accurate decription... then again thats before LS1Edit came out, and people started tuning gen3's, which don't use a memcal
  10. Hey people, Was just wondering how people have gone with getting insurance claims on their modified car... I'm not talking about having a prang with a cat-back, I mean something that is obviously defectable such as being too low, or having a fairly nutsy motor (bigger turbo, cams, etc.) The reason I ask is that a few insurance companies allow mods "providing they are roadworthy", when in many cases, they simply can't be!!! I mean, if a 200sx is lowered, and it was already barely above the minimum 100mm ground clearance, how the hell can that be "roadworthy". Anyway, the point is the mods themselves wouldnt cause a crash, so the insurer is unlikely to knock back a claim, but they can't say that. So.. has anyone got experience with this sort of thing??? Cheers
  11. Daaaaaammmn, thats all I can say... besides thanks for takin me Dan!!!! I don't really think the calais would've been, um, up to it... Oh yeh, and after all that, the only cop for the night that I saw was the one that breatho'd me when I got back into Gawler at 4 in the morning on freakin Calton Rd... Ah well, at least there's no law against too much caffeine...
  12. ... the same as a car built by "beer swilling, dope smoking, meth taking, ferals" in the industrial districts of japan.. There isnt some brilliant samurai sword builder that personally builds each skyline you know... they have their line workers too. I guess holdens are just built to a price, and thats about it. That's my biggest reservation about "performance" commodores is that their price tag isn't reflected in a better overall build quality...
