from one car enthusiast to another:
get some experience with driving etc....im glad i got my R33 when I was 24. Had I got it when I was 17, i surely wouldnt be here now. You said you had a years worth of experience driving a vl - with no licence too might I add - a years worth of experience isnt going to teach you much. And at 16/17 no kid realises that he/she has to be responsible on the roads - most kids just speed (i know one guy - he was 18 at the time - who did 110 in a 60 zone - got caught by the speed camera, then did 130 in a 70 zone - and curry parents, when they know their kid(s) did something stupid its a beating for sure), show off to their mates and do the "cool" stuff that they see on the fast and furious.
Its obvious that your mind is made up. But do pause and think about it. Get the experience - preferably with someone who has been driving for a while (i.e your parents), and use a car that is easy to control if situations get out of hand.
Even with my 9 years worth of experience (including L's), when I first got the skyline I had to get used to the fact that it was a rear wheel drive - and the first time i really got reminded was when I slid it in the wet while taking a turn. Let go of the gas, and concentrated on controlling the car. Wasnt in any danger, but it certainly woke me up. Had this happened to me when I was 17, I wouldnt have known what to do.
Lifes short, but you dont have to make it shorter.
