Munky - yeah probably not the best car considering its old as well. I mean, the engine sounds ok. In the end though, if your gf is happy with it, then its her decision I suppose. A revs check might be worthwhile if she does infact want it. Usually these mx5's go for around 12 grand if they are in good nic and they hold value - so yeh the fact that they had the car for a year and selling it for 9 grand might hint that there could be some problems with it. If your gf can afford to spend a bit more, maybe look around for something thats in a better condition (that is if she still wants an mx5).

Hmmm...the 98 model i test drove was rougher than the skyline thats for sure - its the engine. Id expect a 93 model one to be rougher than the 98 model. What did you mean steering seems to pull around? Wheel alignment perhaps? When you reved it to 4k, did u hold it there for like3 seconds and then give it a quick press and release? Id be a bit concerned about the respray - you might have to check the paperwork as to why it was done, or (i dont konw if you can do this or not) but maybe you can get a history for that car from the registration places. Is there a link for this?

I did that with all the r33's to test for black smoke - they all were fine . And I also have done that with my 82 civic - which sadly I must say gives out a lot of black smoke edit - yeah if there is any blue or black smoke - say that there is another car you want to check out as well and that you will let the guy know - then just run like hell....

The 1st series is supposed to be the most fun to drive. I have driven the 98 model and that has more power and is a smoother engine. Id probably check the top to see any tears and what not. Check the bolts to see nothing has been removed before (they leave marks if they ahve been removed). Do the usual oil check, water etc. Test for black smoke - rev it to around 3500 or 4 - and keep it there, then hit the gas and let go real quick - that will show if any black smoke is coming out. Lastly, mechanical inspection - since this is not a turbo normal mechanical inspection should be ok i think....

Check my sig for the turbo back exhaust I have - Batmbl has some good stuff, I suggest you contact him for the front/dump and cat....

Well, mines only got a pod and a turbo back exhaust - plus lugging that 12 inch subby and sub box - adds weight to the car So hence why my bros s2000 will be faster....i think...
